Thank @headlineeternal for sending me an eARC of The Kiss Curse by @erinsterlingbooks 📖
I really liked Gwyn in The Ex Hex so I was very excited when The Kiss Curse was announced and I wasn’t disappointed!
Once again we’re in the small town of Graves Glen during the run-up to Halloween and magic is in the air. ✨ This paranormal romcom is perfect if you’re looking for something more on the light and fun side this spooky season. There’s dark magic afoot but overall the vibe is a small town enemies to lovers romcom with mostly fun magic.
FMC Gwyn is holding a grudge against MMC Wells for something that happened back when they were attending college, so she’s not impressed when he suddenly shows up in town with plans to stay. The tension was out in force with this couple and I thoroughly enjoyed all of their banter.
The magical mystery element to The Kiss Curse felt quite obvious to me but I still enjoyed the journey to get to the bottom of it. I was a bit disappointed that two minor plot threads were left hanging, especially when the scenes were written around them meaning things could have easily been wrapped up. They were small things in terms of the story but had been a big deal to the main characters which is why I felt frustrated having waited for certain things to be revealed/resolved.
Sir Purrcival was back and had more to say than ever! Gwyn‘s cat is officially my favourite animal companion from a book and I thought his presence felt less cheesy than in The Ex Hex. Fans of book 1 will be pleased to know that Vivi and Rhys are also around at the start of the book before leaving for their belated honeymoon.
The Kiss Curse was a lot of fun and I found myself smiling while reading. It’s the perfect romcom for the lead-up to Halloween and a book I can see myself re-reading when I’m in search of a comfort read.
Read For:
• Enemies to lovers ❤️
• Magical mysteries ✨
• Small town Halloween events 🎃
• Chaotic young witches 😳
• Sir Purrcival 🐈⬛
• Autumn vibes 🍁
Rating: 4/5🌟
Steam Level: 3/5🔥
This is the much anticipated sequel to The ex Hex and it really did not disappoint. In this story we get the story of Wells and Gwynn. Wells being Rhys’s brother from the ex hex.
Gwynn does not like Wells after an incident they had together in college a few years ago. Now after wells has been away for quite a few years from Graves Glen he’s back and making Gwynns life as difficult as possible.
This is such a fun book and a highlight for me Is of course Sir Purrcival. He is hilarious and exactly what I would believe a talking cat to be like!
I loved catching up with Rhys and Vivi, and there was a great cast of supporting characters that really added to the story.
The perfect spooky read to enjoy this Halloween!
I loved this follow up to The Ex Hex - I'm hoping that Bowen gets a love interest next!
We met Gwynn in the previous book, and this time get to meet Rhys' eldest brother Wells. The pair of them had a run in years ago at Penhaven College and Gwynn has held a grudge ever since - so when Wells decides to move to Graves Glen, sparks instantly fly between the pair!
I really enjoyed the twists and turns in the story, this was brilliant.
I adored this. After enjoying The Ex Hex last year, I was highly anticipating Gwyn's book. Her and Well's are fantastic and Sir Purcivil really is the star of the show. The Baby Witches are also outstanding. I loved the Supernatural reference and found myself cracking up with laughter through a lot of this book. I really do hope there are more books from Graves Glenn as I adore this town. Kind of hoping we might get a book from Bowen.
Massive 5 stars from me, perfect autumn witchy read
I absolutely LOVED this. I fell in love with the quiet town of Graves Glen.
I was lucky enough to receive this as am ARC and boy was I not disappointed.
Sir Perccivul gave me life 🐈 but what got me the most was that Gwynn was so relatable. She's full of banter, sarcasm and is just an all round epic FMC!
I enjoyed being able to see the initial characters of book #1 in this also.
The Kiss Curse gave me everything I wanted and more. Spooky vibes (it's Halloween duh!) Enemies to lovers.
The story line was fresh and entertaining and I couldn't put the book down! Thank you so much for the arc NetGalley!
This book was so good that it broke me out of a month-long reading slump.
I really enjoyed The Ex Hex, but The Kiss Curse absolutely blew me away.
Gwyn was such a fun FMC—she had me laughing out loud so many times and I just loved how much of a stubborn badass she was (even if the book hadn’t confirmed it, I wouldn’t have known she was a Taurus.) I was a little worried I wouldn’t like Wells given his history, and because I was kind of routing for Gwyn and the mayor, but he was great. His character growth felt really natural and not rushed, and I love how obsessed with Gwyn he was. As a duo, they are absolute disasters of human beings and it was amazing.
These books aren’t super magic heavy but I really enjoyed the touch of Gwyn teaching the baby witches and seeing more of her magic. And, once again, Graves Glen was absolutely delightful.
This book definitely leaned more romance than plot, but it built up to a really good, action-packed, ending. The sexual tension was also great and I really enjoyed the steamier moments.
This series is like Gilmore Girls x Practical Magic x Hocus Pocus and it’s the perfect series for this time of year. I absolutely flew The Kiss Curse and I won’t know peace until the author announces that she’s going to write Bowen’s book.
Content warnings: Death of a parent, human (witch?) sacrifice, fire, blood
Gywn Jones had seen her best friend Vivi marry a member of the rival magical Penhallow family but that doesn’t mean she has to have anything to do with them does it? After all one of them has lied to her family for centuries, one of them looks like a yeti and one of them didn’t even bother to attend the wedding.of Vivi and his brother. But then along comes Wells Penhallow aka Mr. Wedding No Show who not only moved into her town but opens up a rival shop opposite hers. Gwyn full intends to make him rue the day he decided to come to Graves Glen …
Ah, it was good to be back in Graves Glen again. As before, Erin Sterling delivers a witty but cosy, charming but spicy, witchy romance. There’s a magical mystery to unravel as well. I’ve become really fond of these characters, including Sir Purrcival with his excellent comic timing, so I really hope there are more of these books to come. There’s definitely unfinished business and I think yeti brother needs his own book.
It’s a perfect romance to kick off your spooky season, I am really glad I read it. Thank you to Erin Sterling, Avon publishing and NetGalley for the opportunity to review an advanced copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
I read Erin Sterling’s The Ex Hex last year and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was the perfect mix of a witchy, spooky, second chance romance. The Kiss Curse has the same wonderful Halloweeny vibes except this time we’ve got enemies to lovers.
As soon as Sterling announced she was giving Gwyn her own story it became one of my most anticipated reads of the year. She was such a brilliant character in The Ex Hex and makes a fantastic lead in The Kiss Curse. Gwyn is confident, witty and very funny indeed. She is happy doing her thing in Graves Glenn and running her shop Something Wicked. With the Halloween season approaching and some baby witches to mentor Gwyn will be kept very busy indeed. The only problem she has is the arrival of Wells Penhallow, who has come back to Graves Glenn and has the audacity to open up a magic store across the road from her. But these enemies soon find themselves thrown together to deal with a mysterious new coven.
The chemistry between Gwyn and Wells was excellent. The initial distain they felt towards one another led to some hilarious banter and witty quips. As the novel, and their relationship evolved, and the chemistry positively sizzled on the page. Wells’ seemingly stuffy exterior was in perfect balance to Gwyn’s quirky rebellious side, though they were each hilariously stubborn.
Alongside Gwyn & Wells’ relationship, I loved reading about Gwyn’s relationship with her baby witches. That she would give them the space and encouragement to practice which she was not afforded whilst at school was so lovely to see. The loyalty and protection that they showed each other was so special too.
Let’s not also forget the other star of the show Sir Puurcival. We get even more of him in The Kiss Curse and he remains an absolute legend.
This book is just perfect for the oncoming spooky season. It’s so much fun and made me smile so much! It’s also got some great twists and turns. I LOVED it!
Gwyn Jones is perfectly happy with her life in Graves Glen. She, her mom, and her cousin have formed a new and powerful coven; she's running a successful witchcraft shop, Something Wicked; and she's started mentoring some of the younger witches in town. As Halloween approaches, there's only one problem--Llewellyn "Wells" Penhallow.
This was a lovely follow on from the Ex Hex, it didn't feel as steamy and sexy but it still passed my test. I loved the stubbornness of Gwyn and Wells and how they exuded their feelings through angst. Some of the spicy scenes were great but I would have loved to see more!
Overall, this was a great addition to the Ex Hex world and I hope we get more books in this world.
I rated it 4 stars!
Another cosy story full of curses, romances and questionable family members!
I very much enjoyed this sequel as it was a delight to see Gwyn develop more as a stand-alone character. The story is full of sizzling romance, humorous quips and hallowe’en mayhem which makes this a delightful read and feels perfect for the autumnal chill. The light hearted elements sit well beside the darker tones and Gwyn maintains your confidence that mistakes can be corrected.
If you want a fun, light hearted fantasy which is a compelling read, I would certainly recommend!
Erin Stirling returns to the cozy, halloween obsessed small town Graves Glen for her Witchy, swoon-worthy and utterly addictive sequel to the rom-com TikTok sensation, The Ex Hex. If you loved The Gilmore Girls or Sabrina The Teenage Witch
It follows Gwyn Jones who is perfectly happy with her life in Graves Glen. She’s formed a powerful new coven with her family; she’s running a successful witch shop called Something Wicked and she’s even mentoring some of the town’s younger witches. There’s only one problem—Llewellyn ‘Wells’ Penhallow.
Wells has come to Graves Glen for two reasons—to reestablish his family’s connection with the town and to finally make a new life for himself away from his father. But, after opening a magic shop just across the road from Gwyn’s, he quickly realises that going up against her won’t be as easy as he initially thought…especially after an accidental, magic inspired (and very hot) kiss.
And though Gwyn and Wells are fully committed to their witchy rivalry, they find themselves thrown together when they have to deal with the sudden appearance of a mysterious new coven and Gwyn’s concern that something—or someone—is messing with her magic…
The Ex Hex was one of my fave reads last year so I was soo unbelievably excited to get the opportunity to review The Kiss Curse. And honestly, it lived up to all my expectations! It’s witchy, sexy and full of flirtatious banter I couldn’t get enough of. I loved returning to Graves Glen and seeing Vivi and Rhys again, but I have to admit Gwyn was definitely a one of my fave characters in The Ex Hex and I’m glad she finally got her own book.
Gwyn is a snarky and delightfully witty protagonist that I absolutely adored and her chemistry with Wells was incredible. Likewise, Wells—Rhys Penhallow’s stern and serious older brother was a really sweet, secret cinnamon roll of a character whose attraction and subsequent feelings for Gwyn melt his standoffish barriers and make Wells reevaluate his relationship with his father, who very much despises the Jones women.
I’m a sucker for enemies/rivals to lovers and GrumpyxSunshine tropes so I loved every glorious second of Gwyn and Wells’ flirty, tension filled rivalry—and their antics in trying to outdo one another was just soo humorous!
I really enjoyed the supporting cast, especially the baby witches who Gwyn mentors (I’m hoping we’ll see more of them in future preferably alongside Bowen, Rhys and Wells’ other brother) but my absolute fave has to be Gwyn’s treat-loving, talking cat, Sir Purrcival who’s even more hilarious than he was in The Ex Hex.
There are some really enjoyable steamy scenes (particularly the pickup truck scene) so do bear this in mind if you prefer closed door/ clean romances.
Overall, an exceptionally entertaining and enjoyable witchy romance full of talking cats, intriguingly magic mysteries and loveable characters that will have to racing through this spellbindingly swoon-worthy read.
A huge thank you to Headline Eternal and Netgalley for the e-arc.
Thank you Net Galley and Headline for giving me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed this book much more than the first book, The Ex Hex. This book follows Gwyn, the cousin of Vivi, who owns a shop in Graves Glen that is very successful. Wells, Rhys’ older brother, moves to this town and opens up a shop that sells the same things across from Gwyn’s. This creates a rivalry between the two. One day, a love spell manages to find Gwyn and Wells, and it makes the whole situation complicated. On top of that, Gwyn is losing her magic. This was very well written and perfect for Halloween.
I loved the ex hex but i love this book even more!
Gwyn was my favourite character in the first book so I really enjoyed getting to learn more about her and her personality. I was truly rooting for Gwyn and Wells, their love declarations in the final chapter filled my heart with joy, it was perfect.
Gwyn Jones is enjoying her life in Graves Glen. Her family have taken back the town with magic, she runs a successful shop and is mentoring 'baby witches'. The only problem is Llewellyn 'Wells' Penhallow.
Wells has decided to move back to Graves Glen to start over after his pub was failing in Wales and re-establish his families connection with the town. When he decides to open a magic shop across the street from Gwyn he realises she's not a force to reckon with and then they share a very passionate kiss.
They find themselves thrown together due to a new coven in town and that Gwyns losing her magic. Will they manage to figure it all out?
This was a very quick, lighthearted, funny read. Definitely one you could read in one sitting. It was fun revisiting Graves Glen and seeing all the characters from the ex hex again. This was very enjoyable with the perfect cosy witchy atmosphere. I hope we'll get a third book in this series as I'd love to revisit all the characters again. Highly recommend if you enjoyed the ex hex.
4.5 stars
Oh my, I have never laughed so hard and so many times at a book!
I absolutely adore Gwyn, and not just because she reminds me of me 😂
Well's is the perfect sarcastic grump 🥰
It's an easy, hilarious, lightweighted read and you definitely should check it out on release day! 🤍
Thankyou NetGalley and Headline Eternal for providing me with this ARC
I received an electronic advanced reader copy in return for my honest opinion. Thank you to Erin Sterling and Headline for allowing me to read the Kiss Curse before it’s release.
The Kiss Curse is a cute, witchy read that is just perfect for your October tbr’s. I absolutely loved Gwyn within the Ex Hex and I was eager to see her find love. While I’ll admit, much like many of you, I was really hoping for a WLW romance within this book, but I found myself growing to like Wells- despite how serious and devoted to his dad he may be.
I enjoyed the addition of the baby witches and seeing Gwyn’s relationship grow with them was fantastic.
The character I was happiest to see more of however was Sir Purrcival, as a cat lover myself I loved the fact we got to see more of the talking cat!
This is a cute witchy book I’ll be sure to add to my Halloween recommendations.
I absolutely loved this book. I’m a big fan on the Ex Hex so I’m so pleased to have been able to read this follow up book.
We follow Gywn and Wells as they deal with some more strange magic and deal with their growing attraction.
This is such a cute, easy, halloween read. I flew this book and enjoyed every second of its fun lighthearted magic. Highly recommend to anyone looking for an enjoyable witchy read.
Gwyn is a sassy witch with a talking cat. Wells is the serious and straight laced brother of her new cousin-in-law. The romance that follows is a brilliant enemies to lovers that had me laughing from start to finish!
I received a copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
I devoured this so fast! As a huge fan of The Ex Hex I was so excited to get my hands on this. One word…. EPIC!
Thanks for my eARC of this book. This was another fun, easy read and I was glad to be back with these characters.
