This was a really fun and delicious romance with enjoyable characters and an enthralling premise. I would highly recommend.
I love all of jasmine’s book s and this was no exception! They all have some great romance with some important underlying themes done so well!
DNF at 40%. I’ve been dragging this book out for months but I just don’t have the willpower to keep going with it anymore.
The storyline is incredibly repetitive, to the point where I’m 40% in and all that’s really happened is that the MMC and FMC had a one night stand right at the start, and they keep mentioning it since. Yet I’m struggling to see any real chemistry or intensity between the characters? It’s just a constant reminder that “oh no she’s his boss so they can’t think about each other this way and yet it’s all they’re able to think about every two minutes.”
There was also lots of long dialogue between different characters that adds nothing to the plot, and just dragged this book out to be longer than necessary.
The sexual chemistry between Luke and Margot from sizzling right from their first meeting, and given this is an author that writes fabulous sex scenes, I knew I was in for a treat.
Add in the setting of a Napa valley vineyard, some great banter, and some lovely story lines and this was a book that I couldn't get enough of.
It's a wine lovers dream, there is also some excellent food, some good friendships, some deception, a big party and side plot involving siblings.
I loved both Margot and Luke, and was willing them to get together, more than just that first time.
It hit all the right spots with me and awas and sheer pleasure to read,
Thank you to Headline Eternal and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
This was my first Jasmine Guillory novel and I really wanted to like it, because I heard great things about her novels and I was intrigued by the blurb: after a one-night-stand with a man she just met, a woman finds out that he is her new employee. I loved it! Unfortunately, it took me quite a while to get into the story. The pace was a bit too slow and maybe the story could have been slightly condensed (a few scenes were dragged too long). I started getting more invested in the characters’ lives only halfway through the story and I liked how both the protagonists and the plot developed. I will probably give the author another try and pick up another one of her novels… fingers crossed!
It was yet another lovely and steamy romance from my favourite author. It had all the good bits like funny dialogues and great sex scenes where characters show each other respect, and but perhaps just a tiny bit more tension would be great? I'd love to see more development of the story between Margot and her brother too, but I liked Luke's friend Avery and I hope she's gonna get her own story too!
Fun and had me swooning. A lot of sweetness and tenderness mixed in with the spice and humour. I loved how original the premise was.
Margot is a vineyard CEO in Napa Valley, negotiating the difficult situation with her brother’s co-ownership after their uncle bequeathed it to them both in the will. She feels like he doesn’t want her in the business, as he’s the real wine guy and all she knows about is Business, unsuitable for their place. This constant tension is getting to her, as we meet Margot in the beginning, and she’s looking for what else she can do.
Her friend and bar owner, on a cheeky whim, directs her to a very cute and single man who just walked in, and their story begins. It’s in the summary, but I won’t describe it here because the reveal is quite fun in the book.
Luke is newly moved back to Napa and is settling back in near family and friends, looking for something fun to do for the summer.
Somehow, Jasmine Guillory always manages to find that balance between heart warming romance and comedy, without feeling overly cheesy or forced. This felt a bit closer to Party of Two in narrative and tone.
I think a large part of this is that the characters are likeable - I would go for wine and dinner with all of the people introduced in this book, as I would with most of the other characters in her books. She writes fun, well rounded characters who are human - sometimes they’re not always right but it’s fairly certain they’ll come round in the end.
The other feature in JG world is the food - don’t read this hungry! So much delicious food described as Luke and Margot eat dinner, grab lunch, sample bar snacks and prepare for events at the vineyard. Paired with excellent wine as well, I could almost taste it.
As a white British woman, I like reading books from different perspectives and as a Black, American wine CEO, Margot has a lot to share. She also has a cracking wardrobe, and one I’d no doubt want to steal things out of if/when we become friends.
Recommended for fans of Jasmine Guillory, Emily Henry and gentle romcoms with a nice level of spice (akin to a Nando’s Medium).
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Jasmine Guillory always writes such cute romances. She is a comfort writer in the way that I know that I will enjoy anything and everything she writes.
Drunk On Love was adorable and so cute and funny. I found myself laughing out loud at multiple points in this book and it gave me such a warm, fuzzy feeling whilst reading it.
Admittedly, I preferred While We Were Dating, but this one made me super happy and that’s all that I could ask for 🥰
This was my first Jasmine Guillory but I’d heard really good things about her writing. I loved how much fun this book was and I had a smile on my face the whole time!
Even though this is the second Jasmine Guillory book that I've read, after By The Book, I've heard such great things about her first couple of books that I was really excited to read this.
But sadly this just didn't work for me.
It felt overly long and because of that, it really felt like it dragged for most of it.
The chemistry between the two main characters wasn't particularly strong either.
I did like the setting and the potential that this book had and it was easy to read but a few things were just missing for me.
It just felt very surface level, which may be fine if you're looking for something like that.
But it hasn't put me off reading more from Jasmine Guillory in the future. I think I might go back and read the first few books that she released as these have had more unanimous favourable reviews.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A quick and easy read that was humourous at times and enjoyable. The characters were well developed and the story was engaging enought to kepp my interest. I was a bit disappointed by the end it fell flat and felt very rushed but overall it was an enjoyable read.
Honestly, I just need to stop reading Jasmine Guillory books now because I'm always disappointed by them. I loved her first two, but it's all just seemed to go a bit downhill from here. Fundamentally, I found the writing really boring. She said this then she said that then they thought these things that we already knew -- this book is 400 pages long and it definitely didn't have the narrative to sustain that, especially when scenes from each character's perspective doesn't often provide us with new information but tells us the same thing that just happened in slightly different words. The setting was nice and there was real potential in the concept - but the execution wasn't for me.
I enjoyed this couple they were bubbling over with their chemistry and the backdrop of the winery was gorgeous too. What I felt was a little awkward or flat was the relationship for Margot and her brother - it was just weird and the reasoning just felt even more off...sorry it bugged me and took a little out of my enjoyment.
Logan's workplace drama's and potential future also got me jumping in protest, much like Margot, I couldn't imagine that Logan as a character would even consider it as a future after everything he had been through but he had been portrayed as someone so considerate that not talking to Margot was so out of character.
Margot, Logan and winery = WINNING.....everything else, meh.
I enjoyed Drunk on Love! The drama at the end was a bit rushed and annoying but up until that point I was having a great time.
Margot and Luke are a lot of fun, they go from one night stand to boss and employee overnight, with Margot being the CEO of a winery and Luke looking for a temporary job until he decides whether he wants to go back to tech.
I definitely felt the connection between these two right from the start and enjoyed their journey!
Drunk on Love tells the story of Margot and Luke, who meet at a bar and have a one-night stand, only for Luke to walk through Margot's vinery's doors the next day as her newest employee. I thought this book was easy to read, if a little surface-level / predictable. If you enjoy the insta-love trope, you'll enjoy this; I just wanted more build-up between the characters!
Thank you Netgalley and Headline for this advanced copy in return for an honest review.
This was a fun, easy, spicy romance. It is well written and told from dual pov which I always like in a romcom. I enjoyed the chemistry between the characters and the plot line. Although the story was somewhat predictable it was still fun and enjoyable to read. I also liked the side characters and would love to see some of them get their own books if this was made into a series.
Perfect for fans of an easy read romcom!
A great read, the story of Margot and Luke. They meet at a bar, and then both are surprised the next day when he is her new employee. The attraction is still there but will the give it a chance?
Loved both characters and how it is told from both points of view.
Hope this will be a series and Elliot gets a book.
A forbidden workplace romance and a slow-burn with chemistry that makes it extra 🔥
Margot and Luke are just two idiots in love, we get to share this story about them figuring themselves out, making mistakes and growing from them.
The writing made it so easy to envision being there and even though the plot line was a little predictable, it was still really enjoyable.
We get lots of spice and genuine moments that really make you fall in love with everything 🤍
Thankyou NetGalley and Headline Eternal for this ARC
DNF at 60%.
Margot Noble and her brother Elliott co-own a winery in Napa Valley after it was left to them jointly by their uncle Stan. It was a shock to both siblings as Elliott was the only one working in the winery, while Margot was working in advertising and marketing in the city. Nevertheless, despite the friction, the winery is very successful and is taking on more staff to run the wine tastings and tours while Margot concentrates on growing the business and Elliott concentrates on growing the vines.
After yet another fractious discussion with Elliott where he resists all her attempts to grow the business, or reluctantly accepts with bad grace, and announces that he has hired a new guy to help with the wine tastings, Margot finds herself in the bar run by her BFF Sydney. Sydney recommends that Margot unwind and take her mind off things by flirting with the young(er) guy sitting next to her at the bar.
In true rom-com tradition, the guy, Luke Williams, just happens to be the man that Elliott hired. A former high-flyer in Silicon Valley, Luke quit in a moment of stress/burn-out and has temporarily moved back home to Napa Valley to be closer to his BFF Avery who has just gone through a nasty break-up. Although he originally intended to do nothing, he decided he would get bored and so applied for a job which was totally different from anything he'd done before (which BTW must be super irritating to people who stud for years to know all about the wines being offered and this book makes it seem like you can pick it up in a couple of weeks).
Margot says she doesn't want to talk about work and they never share last names so it's a bit of an unwelcome surprise when the morning after the night before Luke discovers that Margot is one of his new bosses. Margot is desperate to keep their one-night stand from Elliott as she thinks it will be further evidence that she shouldn't be co-owner of the winery, even though the business was not doing well until she came along.
I have really enjoyed the other Jasmine Guillory books I have read and so I was delighted when I got approved for an ARC. Sadly although this was competently written (naturally), there was no spark, the angst felt by Luke and Margot over their attraction and one-night stand goes on and on and on. Also, I get that the Williams and the Nobles are black, which makes them unusual in the mainly white Napa Valley, but how many times do they need to say it to each other and in exactly those words? I also got unreasonably irritated by how many times Margot put her hair up in a bun, a sleek top knot, a messy bun, just a bun, FFS who cares!
Anyway, there's a few side plots eg the rom-com staple of pretending to be dating someone else, Luke's ex boss being a racist/terrible boss etc but it was just dragging no real plot advancement just longing looks and angst about their age difference and their one night stand yadda yadda. Sorry just not for me.
I was honestly hoping/expecting that this was a rerelease of an earlier book, but no sadly this is a new release.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
