When Amelie loses her father at a young age she moves to London to start a new life, believing she was now alone in the world. She makes some good friends and finds a job on a lucrative magazine where she meets the charming Ned Hawthorne. On a business trip away, she reluctantly agrees a marriage of convenience in which she will be paid sufficiently for her to go through college.
Amelie learns too late that Ned is not the charming man she thought and when they are kidnapped and she is kept in a dark room, she has plenty of time to reflect over the past few months.

The story line was good although the pace is a bit slow and the ending was a little disappointing.

I purchased this book in person as I missed the chance to read it via net galley.

Sadly it wasn’t for me. I’ve read books by this author before which were great but this one didn’t hit the mark. Such a shame as I enjoy her books.

Paris has done it again with this one - adding another brilliantly written and fast paced thriller to her growing repertoire. This is an enjoyable read and you can’t help but invest in Amelie and her freedom. Exhilarating and well written, fans of Paris’ previous titles will not be disappointed.

This was another fab book by this author. I adored the character of Amelie and I was rooting for her throughout the book. I was shocked at some of the twists and turns but they definetely made for a thrilling read.

You know those silly over-the-top action movies that don't make a lot of sense. You just watch for something to put on in the background??? ..... if this book was a movie.. it would be one of those.
The story started off somewhat intriguing and interesting, and I enjoyed the short snappy chapters, but it just went downhill from there. 80% of this book made little sense and was so far-fetched, I wanted to throw it out the window!
The hostage situation? The quick marriage? Amelie's questionable decisions? JUST WHY?!?
As a whole, it was easy to get through with it's short chapters, and I kept waiting for something, ANYTHING, to pull it all together, and make the everything make sense, but that never happened, and Amelie was a character I disliked quite quickly and it was very difficult to feel sorry for her.
There were also a few chapters, while Amelie was kept hostage that were just terrifying to read. I would have definitely enjoyed these chapters more if Amelie was more likeable.
Overall, a read that started well, but ultimately was ruined by a naive main character, questionable decisions that were hard to overlook, and a conclusion that was just ridiculous nonsense.

Sadly this didn't work for me. BA Paris is a great author, her first novel was the best. This just felt like it was trying too hard. Sadly I didn't finsh it, the characters seemed contrived and unbelievable.

This is a gripping book. The story is told over a dual timeline. It is fast paced and claustrophobic. It is full of atmosphere. Unfortunately I felt that the ending was a bit underwhelming

I found this a bit slow to be honest and I usually love this author picked up slightly at the end but not a page turner for me

This was absolutely brilliant and I am only sorry that I left it on my TBR pile for such a long time.

Fantastic storyline, brilliantly written and very fast paced. the account of the Prisoner and how she got to be in a completely pitch black room, with the story flicking between past and present day was really well put together and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Wow, this is almost as good as Beijing closed doors. It somehow just missed the mark, but was a really good read. I really enjoyed watching it unfold and there were plenty of twists and turns. I don't ever know how to describe ba Paris books other than well with the read!

I am so sorry, I just came across my review which I shared on Goodreads and Amazon in November 2022!

“Suspense. Secrets. Suspicion. Scandal. Storytelling that will keep you guessing until the very end. The Prisoner is the nerve-shredding new novel from the author of global best seller Behind Closed Doors.

A relationship can hold many secrets....

She wakes up in a pitch-black room, not knowing where she is. Why has she been taken? Who can she hear talking? And why does she soon feel safer here, imprisoned, than she had begun to feel with her husband, Jed?

Amelie has always been a survivor, from losing her parents as a child in Paris to making it on her own in London. Then she meets Carolyn and is soon swept up in a glamorous London lifestyle. Until it starts to go wrong....

In true B.A. Paris style, The Prisoner is a gripping survival story, a twisted love story and at its dark heart a thriller to keep you up all night.”. This book got off to a thrilling start and I was gripped immediately. The story is set in Amelie’s present and past life. I found it to be clever - I thought I had guessed what was going on but I was wrong. The ending did feel somewhat rushed but it was a good conclusion with all my questions being answered. Thanks to NetGalley and B A Paris for this reading opportunity.

I have read every book by BA Paris and enjoyed them. I guessed the twist in this one so I’ve given it 4/5. But another solid read.

B.A. Paris is fast becoming one of my favourite authors. This wasn’t the best book I’ve read by her, but it was definitely up there. It has a unique plot that is gripping and the short chapters, as well as the alternation between past and present events keeps it feeling relatively fast paced and meant that I wanted to keep reading to find out what happened next.

★★★ 2.5 stars (rounded up)

It's dark...you don't know where you are...and you can hear footsteps approaching...

This was a tough one. I have heard such rave reviews of this author so I was so excited to finally get approved for a B.A. Paris book...only to be left somewhat deflated. The book was OK with a complicated story - which is not a bad thing but it ended up with the last 30% or so being somewhat far fetched and just a little weird.

There are two timelines - the past and the present. And I like this format as each timeline drip feeds you just enough information to keep you engaged and turning the pages wanting to know more. Quite honestly, I hate writing negative reviews and really many of them have been mixed so instead of giving my opinion, I think I will just leave it up to you, the reader.

Go out and grab yourself a copy and give it a go. You might just enjoy it. You might not. But either way, you will be the decider.

I would like to thank #BAParis, #Netgalley and #HodderAndStoughton for an ARC of #ThePrisoner in exchange for an honest review.

The Prisoner BA Paris
It's no secret that I love Georgia McGuire as a narrator, I'd probably listen to anything if she was reading it.
I also love books by BA Paris, so this is a great combination.
I liked Amelie as a character, and felt the book was well written.

Twisty, gripping thriller which started very well but didn't quite keep it up.Plenty of surprises and some good characters.

Not as gripping as Behind Closed Doors but gripping enough to hold your attention and to he read in one sitting.
Written as a parallel between the past and the present, it reveals Amelie’s journey.
The first part is pretty much set in a dark room where she is kept after being kidnapped together with Ned whom she married for convenience. Not that she had another choice. Losing everyone along the way has influenced Amelie to fight and not just to accept.
Great read. Thanks @netgalley for this ARC

B.A.Paris has a formidable reputation with writing twisty, unexpected stories and this one is certainly full of surprises. The start of the book sets a great pace and is quite explosive.

The main characters of Ned and Amelie were well-formed, however Ned was (intentionally) unlikeable and Amelie, I felt, needed a bit more spark about her.

The first half of the book worked really well, fast-paced plot, full of twists and turns but for me, the second half, sadly this time, is a little far-fetched to feel believable.

A decent read just not at the same level as previous books.
