Can never go wrong with a B A Paris book!
I liked the movement from past to present, so it really built the momentum and I did find it hard to put down. I think the end was a tiny bit rushed but other than that well worth a read for sure! Can’t wait for the next!
I don't think The Prisoner was as good as previous books from B.A Paris, however I enjoyed it, the fast paced short punchy chapters kept me hooked
Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. Well written with a good premise and characters. It was a good read, if a little predictable..
B.A Paris books are always shocking and very addictive. The blurb on The Prisoner is vague with good reason. It is a tough book to talk about without giving anything away. Absolutely a case of less is best. I am glad that I didn't know much about it before reading it. It was a wild and completely over the top ride and I was there for it all the way. It is dark, twisty and full of surprises.
B A Paris is one of my favourite authors and this latest book did not disappoint. As always a gripping read. Would recommend
A lovely paced twisty little number, perfect example of a gripping thriller. It was very claustrophobic, and for someone who suffers from Claustrophobia at times I actually wanted to stop reading because I felt a bit sick. This is exactly what I look for from books, I like them to bring out a reaction. I loved the main character Amelie, and was rooting for her the whole time. Ultimately this was a nice 4 stars and worth a binge read.
3.5 stars rounded up to 4
This book was so different to what I thought it was going to be. I'll start by saying I do read/watch a fair few psychological thrillers, so I get frustrated when plotlines are similar or predictable, but this book was anything but!
The story takes place in two timelines, which was interesting in itself just because we could see the development of the main character Amelie.
I will say there were a couple of twists and aspects I saw coming, which was slightly disappointing, but on the whole, the book was unique and kept me on the edge of my seat.
If you're on the hunt for a fast-paced psychological thriller that will keep you hooked till the end, this is one for you.
Straight away you just feel that you want Amilie to be okay. She seems smart despite some bad decisions and I just wanted things to be okay for her all the way through.
As we stay with her through a bad choice or two we know when it gets bad she ll be a fighter. And she does not let the reader down.
This is the kind of story my brain lives to get into, it makes you focus and really get lost in the book
Thank you Hodder & Stoughton and Netgalley for the ARC.
There was so much right with this and so much wrong with it.
It started well, then went off somewhere unknown, then picked up and then I just got bored.
I did finished, but it wasn't my favourite book by this author by any means that is why I can only give it 3 stars.
this is my second book by this author and also a 5 star. this book reallly keeps you guessing. i really like that this book shifted from present to past pretty seamlessly. For a veryyy long time in this book you have no idea what is truly going on. you as the reader feel like the prisioner. I felt this book really was a psychological thriller and it had me hooked to the very last sentence.
I found this book to be ridiculous but easy to read. The chapters alternated between past and present and were quite short which made it pacy.
The story was so far-fetched it was silly and lots of the characters were so similar or inconsequential that it was hard to keep track of them all.
Had it not been such a quick read, I might not have bothered to finish it.
This book started off well and towards the middle of the book it fell flat, and I found it hard to read. Amelie is a good character, but I found it hard to connect to the other. This was an okay read but sadly I didn't find it as good as other bools from this author.
I was in the midst of a horrible reading slump when I picked up The Prisoner and oh my gosh it completely got me back to reading obsessively again! I found this book almost impossible to put down - it has so many twists and turns and I simply had to know where it was all going to end. It opens with a woman having being kidnapped and slowly we find out more about her life, and nothing is quite as it seems with her or the people in her life. It's so fast-paced and twisty but every twist felt believable within the story being told and I loved it. This is now one of my favourite novels by BA Paris and I can't wait to read what she writes next! I highly recommend this one!
An intriguing opening with tension building in the first half, but it falls a little flat with a prolonged explanation filling us in about what was actually happening all along. The sexual tension between Amelie and Hunter was strong, so i was disappointed that this wasnt built upon. A great plot, relying on yout to suspend belief a little to make it believable. Worth a read, but not my favourite from the author. #theprisoner baparis #netgalley
Alone in the world, a chance meeting with a woman in a coffee shop gives 19 year old Amelie a new chance at life, until it brings herself into the orbit of rich boy Ned and events ultimately lead to her becoming his wife, and then being kidnapped. But who has taken her, and why? Elements of this story are extremely farfetched, but if you suspend disbelief and just go along for the ride, it's a fast-paced and exciting story with plenty of twists and turns, that is all satisfyingly explained to the reader in the end. I really enjoyed it.
I was very excited to read this book as I absolutely loved the authors Behind Closed Doors which happened to be the book that made me fall in love with reading again after years of not picking up a book.
I can't say this story was as good but it was still exciting and very different to any other thrillers out there which I have to give kudos to as so many others have such similar plots.
I did guess one of the big reveals early on but that didn't ruin it, however the plot was extremely farfetched some characters stories felt like they were left in limbo slightly.
For excitement and originality #ThePrisoner does deserve a solid 4 stars though. Thank you #NetGalley
I have to say, I’m disappointed with The Prisoner. The main character Amelie comes across as quite a shallow person and I just couldn’t connect with her. As far as the rest of the characters go, in my opinion they aren’t fully developed and they are too similar to each other, making it tricky to remember who is who. The plot is fairly weak which I could have forgiven if I had enjoyed the people and their relationships.
I’ve read several of B A Paris’ novels and have enjoyed them so hopefully this one is a blip.
My thanks to the author, the publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read and review the book.
I’d read another book by the same writer “Behind Closed Doors” which I really enjoyed so was keen to read this one.
I found the twists and turns of the story to be quite predictable and for some reason did not feel as invested in the characters as I did with the last book. I enjoyed it but didn’t love it as much as the first one.
I enjoyed this book, it was well paced and it wasn't too obvious.
Amelia ends up in London alone and facing homelessness after the death of her Father.
She is lucky enough to be befriended by Carolyn who takes her into her home and introduces Amelia to her friends.
Through this friend group Amelia is introduced to her future very wealthy husband Ned .
Ned is not a very nice character and events transpire that lead to the kidnap of both Ned and Amelia.
This isn't my favourite of the author's book but it isn't terrible and is an enjoyable read.
Better than the dilemma, but nowhere near as good as their early work. Unfortunately not one I’d recommend which is a shame to say the least
