The Duke's Defiant Cinderella is an interesting historical romance that has a plot unfolds really nicely. Great book to curl up with for an afternoon of escapism.

Lilas grew up in an orphanage until she was rescued by Bastien's mother, she then worked as a servent for his family, now years later her father comes back to claim her but dies before they can meet. He wanted them to wed but Bastien has fought against his father for years and doesn't want to marry Lilas just because his father wanted him to.

A historical romance which takes place in France and sets the scene really well, an enjoyable read.

A bit of a confusing beginning that warms up nicely. An interesting look at heritage and how it was viewed in the regency period in France. A predictable mystery and a sham engagement that develops as Lilas and Bastien open up ans try to overcome decades of hurt and bruises. Some very shoddy French but a cute tale.
