This one was twisty. A psychological thriller with many twists and a couple completely unexpected ones near the end.

This book started slow and turned into a page turner from towards the middle to end. I was honestly a little confused until towards the middle when things started to make sense for me. There was a lot of forward and backward in time flashing. However at the end it had me guessing until the end - so well written and so full of twists of turns. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Anna is happily married to a wealthy man, but there is a secret from her first love affair that's surfaced when someone sends her a photo of a murdered woman. That ex-boyfriend begins to stalk and threaten her if she doesn't kill her husband. She is terrified and doesn't know where to turn.

The plot of this story has some very unusual twists, and I had to listen to all of the book before I could rest! I had to know how it ended. Another great book from Shalini Boland! I'd highly recommend it!

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for sending this audiobook for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

What stood out for me reading this book? Without a doubt it was the twist at about the 85% mark. I didn't see it coming. The story itself was suspenseful. One of those psych thrillers that pulls the reader along using two timelines until they merge. However, it also had moments which required a healthy dose of reality suspension. The characters towards the end were way over the top. And although the story became increasingly implausible, it was still a fun read. The final 15% of the plot was edge of your seat gripping...action packed! The audio version was well performed and brought the story to life. Definitely an audiobook worth listening to if you're looking for a thriller.

The Millionaire's Wife put Boland on my radar, and I look forward to reading more books by her. Katie Villa did a great job narrating this taut thriller.

I was on the edge of my seat throughout the story, sometimes even screaming at Anna. Boland delivered a fast-paced psychological thriller with consistent intensity and twists/turns that felt organic to the plot and made sense. I am looking forward to reading more books by her.

The Millionaire’s Wife came with a twist I did not see coming. The story started with a slow build while nicely developing the main character before all of the twists started. Highly recommend for thriller lovers.

Anna thinks that she has finally found happiness, and the millionaire lifestyle she always wanted but when her past starts to come to the surface she has to wonder how she can keep it all hidden. This was a fun, suspenseful ride and I spent a lot of time wondering what crazy secret was going to come out next. I will certainly be looking forward to more books from this author!

You’ve made the decision to walk away from your past. But that doesn’t mean it won’t catch up to you at some point!

Anna is joyfully married, looking forward to her future with her wealthy, distinguished, husband. But now her past is creeping back into her picture-perfect life, refusing to let her go.

Told in two timelines: The present and the past when Anna was young, impulsive and deeply in love with a troubled young man.

Can Anna out distance her troubled past? Or is it all about to come crashing down around her?

I listened to the audio and enjoyed the narration.

Was this my favorite book by Shalini Boland? Well, no. By the end it was a bit OTT for me. But that’s not stopping me from queuing up her latest!

Thank you Netgalley & Bookouture audio for an ALC of The Millionaire’s Wife by Shalini Boland!

What’s it about?
Anna Blackwell opens an email from an unknown sender, a shocking image included. A woman has been killed, and Anna knows who did it. Anna needs to protect herself and her husband, and now she must reveal truths from her past. But is she the only one who has been living a lie? She needs to stop her ex-lover before it’s too late.

I always enjoy Shalini’s books and find myself hitting “request” as soon as I see them pop up. I don’t know how she manages to write so quickly, but am always pleasantly surprised by the twists she builds in to her stories. This is a bingeable audiobook and I think the narrator really brings this one to life!

There were two Bollywood movies that released in the early part of the 2000s called Ajnabee (Stranger) and Humraaz (Confidant) and while listening to the audiobook of the Millionaire's Wife my mind kept going back to both these movies because the plot of the Millionaire's Wife was kind of a mixture of both of them combined. I sincerely doubt Shalini Boland must have even heard about these movies but these movies were thoroughly entertaining to watch and I guess as a result I quite enjoyed listening this audiobook as well.

I have previously liked Katie Villa's narration but her range and tone in this one felt uneven. In some places she whispered her lines while her volume became loud when narrating the dialogues which led to me having to frequently adjust the volume settings. The plot is a bit farfetched but sometimes a thriller requires just that. The story moves at a quick pace and with a duration of around 7 hours the audiobook doesn't take long to get through.

My thanks to NetGalley, the publisher Bookouture Audio and the author Shalini Boland for the audio Arc of the book.

Thank you for sharing this novel with me. I have read several of Shalini Boland's books in the past and have liked them a lot however, I found this novel to be extremely far-fetched. I had to suspend disbelief from the very beginning when Anna receives a threatening text, bringing her back to the past, one she has been trying to forget. Unfortunately for her, Finn, her former flame, has no intentions of allowing her to forget him. For me, this novel lacked cohesion and as it was OTT, I had a hard time connecting.

I lived this book! It was a fantastic thriller, and really kept me guessing. The characters were likable, yet devious at the same time. A great read!

It's easy to listen to this audiobook and finish it in a day or two. The story is a fast-paced thriller, suspensful, but I felt like parts were missing. I would have liked more of the love story and what occurred during those years. The non-involvement of the police, the beating into unconsciousness, and the secret keeping from the one you love most also didn't work for me with the way the characters were drawn. Other than that, the story moved at a quick pace, it was narrated well, and easy to follow.

Thank you to Netgalley for a sneak peak to the audio version of this book. I am a huge Shalini Boland fan anyway and as I anticipated this book did not disappoint.

Anna is happily married to Will ... He just happens to be a millionaire who adores her. Seemingly out of no where Anna's past comes back to wreck her future. Will she figure it all out before everything falls apart?

If you love a tense psychological thriller / domestic thriller than pick up this book and enjoy!!!

The Millionaire's Wife opens with a terrible death of a woman, hit by a speed boat and killed, her distraught husband swimming out to her in hysterics. Then we cut to Anna happily enjoying her husband's birthday party. I know there will eventually be a connection, but at this point, I have no idea. Anna and Will are happily married, living a privileged life enjoying his millions. They have a lovely house on a cliff and recently got a puppy. Then Anna receives a message with the picture of the dead woman in it. What is happening? Has her past come back to haunt her?

I don't want to say anything more about the story than that as it will spoil it for you. The story is told from Anna's POV. We see things that happened in her past, through flashbacks and I wondered how this had to do with what is happening to her in the future. There were times I felt terrible for Anna and other times I wanted to shake her. She had some secrets, secrets that she needed to share with her husband, but she didn't. Her reasons were questionable considering what she was up against. Will was the innocent one in this story, and I felt so bad for him. Was he going to end up dead, a pawn in someone's game? This was a relatively fast moving story with some twists that I didn't see coming. I believe this was Shalini Boland's first novel, which was originally self-published, and if this was her debut, I can see why so many people love her work. This is another of those books where you need to suspend belief and just go with the story, it will keep you reading or listening until you reach the satisfying conclusion. Katie Villa narrates this book and does a great job. She has narrated many thrillers and uses her voice to add that feeling of dread, suspense and emotion. I know I will listen to more books she narrates.
