I generally enjoyed this book although it did suffer from the issue that most short story collections do where some stories are better than others. I did enjoy being in this world again.

What a gorgeous addition to this series! Easily one of the best YA series of all time and this just added lots to the story! Lots of new faces, old faces and a world which just grips me from the get go!

As soon as I saw that Shusterman was releasing another book in the Scythe universe I knew that I was going to have to pick it up ASAP.
Weirdly, Gleanings was nothing like what I had in mind. I love short stories yet some of the stories in this collection really bored me and felt a little pointless. We get to follow familiar faces though and it was these narratives that I loved. Having the opportunity to get some background on key characters from the trilogy was so fun and I really enjoyed these parts.
Overall, I have to admit that I was a little disappointed by Gleanings. Getting some background on this universe was great but I wish we were given much more!

I had alot of fun with the original trilogy so was happy to see more stories from that universe!
Neal Shusterman never disappoints his YA books are some of my favourites but the Arc of scythe is the best World building he has done.
I loved getting back into the series there is so much to explore in the concept of fantasy population control, its fascinating I always recommend these to anyone who loves the hunger games, if you're a fan of Collins you will love these!

I absolutely loved this series, and I found the back stories of some of our favourite characters very insightful. It wraps everything up so well.

Gleanings is a collection of short stories set in the Scythe universe. The universe is so rich with potential for short stories and I am so glad that Shusterman decided to put together this collection. I remember thinking when reading the trilogy, that it would be so interesting to hear stories from different aspects of the world, and in Gleanings we get this! I particularly enjoyed 'Perchance to Glean', 'A Martian Minute' and 'The Mortal Canvas'. Any fans of the Scythe trilogy will love this book!

A great book if, and I believe a very important if, you've read the original trilogy. Although it does endeavour to fill in any gaps that a reader who came to this fresh would need, it's the little nuances having inhabited this world before that I found made this an very enjoyable addition to the Scythe world.

scythe is one of my all time favourite series so when i saw a prequel coming out i was beyond excited. this comment isn’t limited to this book, but prequels in general, when i say they often miss the mark for me. also this book is composed of short stories, and with all short stories there are ones you prefer compared to others.
i think i would have loved this prequel being from the perspective of another scythe that we met within the series, compared to jumping between different characters.

I tried to read the previous three books before I went and read this book, so I had more contacts, but unfortunately I didn’t manage to finish the series before this book timed out on NetGalley so unfortunately I didn’t get to read this book I was approved for.

I should preface this review by declaring two things. First, I’m a huge fan of the Scythe trilogy. I’ve been reading Shusterman’s books since the Unwind days, and Scythe is perhaps one of my all time favourite series for the commentary and theology alone. Second, I can’t stand short story collections. I often find them difficult to read, poorly paced, and I struggle to jump in and out of each one.

So why did I request and read this book, you might ask? Because it’s a Scythe book! I love the world of the Scythe and after the explosive ending to The Toll I wanted more. I was really hoping we’d get to see more of where humans ended up after the conclusion to the original trilogy, and that’s what mostly kept me going.

What I didn’t realise, however, is this collection is written by several different authors. I feel like people (and the publisher) haven’t really been talking about this? As a self declared Massive Fan of the original trilogy and of Shusterman’s writing, I found it very jarring to read a story set in such a familiar world but written in such an unfamiliar style. I could tell these stories weren’t written by Shusterman. They had a different style and vibe.

I did enjoy some of the stories, though. Mostly the ones that Shusterman wrote himself. We got to revisit some of my favourite characters. Scythe Marie Curie got a couple of stories in here, and we also got to see Goddard’s origin story. It was wonderful! My favourite story was actually Cirri, because that’s what I’m now most interested in after finishing the series, but I also really enjoyed the three stories mentioned above.

There was a really strange story about a Scythe and his dog, which had be chuckling. Readers may feel as though that one could be left out but I honestly disagree.

I don’t think this is an anthology that everyone absolutely must read. It’s actually just one for massive Scythe fans, like myself, as it spoils all the events in the trilogy. I would recommend it if you can’t get enough of the Scythe world and the Thunderhead.

I really enjoyed reading this. It was nice being in the world of scythes again. I loved that this added to the books in the series. It added to the stories that were told in the books, and also gave insight into some of the characters. I love how it expanded the world and gave more knowledge on other scythes and the different charter regions. Its definitely a good addition to the series, and has made me want to reread them again!

I read this before reading the trilogy as an insight into the world of scythe and I really enjoyed it! There’s a few times where I was like ‘who is this person’ so would recommend you read this after the trilogy. But a fun couple of short stories set in the world.

A fun bundle of short stories returning to the Arc of a Scythe universe – giving an insight of happenings across the whole timeline of the series as well as before and after!

The collection touches on characters both old and new, with many links to the storyline of the original trilogy but also elements from the world that were not touched on as much. You can expect lots of scythe action, thunderhead introspection, origin stories as well as narratives from regular members of society.
I kind of feel like this anthology is the series getting the Black Mirror treatment – yes this series is an eerie dystopian in itself but each story adds another layer of wtf-ness to it and leaves us with much to think about.

If you enjoyed Scythe, Thunderhead and The Toll in any way definitely give Gleanings a read. And if you are yet to pick up the series then what are you waiting for!!

Really interesting to learn more about the world of the Arc of a Scythe series. I enjoyed how we have stories from different time periods and places to what was centred in the trilogy - I found that so fascinating. I felt like most of the stories captured the essence of the original trilogy and I think if you love the series, this collection will really add to the experience of reading those books.
I did find some of the stories to be a bit disjointed and random - I found that the ones set after the end of The Toll were less enjoyable to read, and there were a couple of stories that were just silly (the dog one especially) but overall it was a fun time and definitely worth reading after really enjoying the original trilogy!

I absolutely ate up this collection of short stories which is a dream for any fan of the series. The stories were of sufficient length and depth that I felt satisfied with each. They were easy to get into and many of them were unexpected insights with wit, drama and deadish happenings.

The Thunderhead is a favourite character for me, so all things that being fascinated me and I think I'd have liked a full story about them. Trixie the dog had me in agog stitches. Other stories were more serious and I appreciated that too.

These stories were mostly Neal Shusterman but a few were collaborations with other authors but they all felt to have the same narrative voice. I do hope this isn't the end of this world and that we'll get future bits and pieces.

Now for all you fans out there I'm going to try keep this spoiler free , I read all three of the other books so I've got to know the characters, I really loved the fact it was lots of short stories which made you understand the some of the characters even better , some of the stories was before everything had happened and some after ,it also explained some of the aftermath of book three The Toll which was to me totally all guns blazing which I always enjoy in a story . I would love to see more anthologies from the world , there so much you can do with these stories it could go on forever like star wars which to me I think is great
when I got in to the story more it was so good to read not just about the lives of the scythe but also the normal people what ever that is these days how what the scythe did and how it really affected them .

I think my favourite story was Mortal Canvas totally brilliant story , I do highly recommend read the series first as will understand everything in this book much better .

Over all the book was brilliant I enjoyed how it went more in depth with some of what happened in the other books , and enjoyed how there was many Authors worked on the book ,the writing was just fantastic by all involved in the short stories .

The Arc of a Scythe trilogy was something I binged through in January of this year. It was a captivating story with an extremely interesting premise, admirable (and deplorable) characters, with overall, a thoroughly enjoyable story.

The Gleanings, a collection of short stories set before, during, and after the events of the main trilogy, contains many of the same core elements that I loved, but as a whole, it fell just short of the mark for me.

Don't get me wrong. I want to start by saying I did enjoy this book. Just that it had its peaks and valleys.

I was expecting more content that revolved around the origins and workings of the main characters from the series. I was let down to find out that this wasn't wholly the case.

I was excited to find out the origins of Scythe Goddard, and get a glimpse at Scythe Curie's backstory, these stories seemed to be separated by some that I unfortunately feel were more like filler, than anything else.

While some were fun and thought-provoking, I never felt much of a connection, investment or interested in those stories. To put it simply, they were fine. Just fine. In my opinion they didn't add anything new to this world or the series.That's not what I was used to with this series.

I'm glad I've read this book and would still certainly recommend it to fans of the series, as others may certainly enjoy it more than me. I just feel that it lacked any true spark to recall the elements of enjoyment that were so prevalent in Scythe, Thunderhead and The Toll.
