I saw the synopsis for this one and just knew I had to read it - so glad I did! A few of the lovelies in book club also got this ARC, so we did it as a buddy read and I just loved hearing everyone else’s thoughts on it. One of them said it was like the Made In Chelsea of Sweetpea and I don’t think I could find a better explanation for it!
The book got stuck straight into the action and did not let up. It was fast paced, exciting and complete bingeable - I didn’t want to put it down. It took a lot of twists and turns throughout, some outrageous, some quite sad and others just outright shocking. It was a clever plot and really took you on a ride.
Kitty’s character was well written and definitely one of those you love and hate in the same breathe. A team of ‘influencer’ friends just added to it, each with their own parts to play but giving the subtle snobby, rich kid vibes - which made aspects even funnier to read.
Granted some bits were a little graphic and grim. But the dark humour and sarcasm narrated throughout kept it light and bloody hilarious in parts. Whilst being humorous it also managed to shed light on a lot of important and relevant topics - without being preachy or overbearing. All these factors made for a really interesting and seemingly realistic read.
For any lovers of the Sweetpea series, morally grey main characters, dark humour or generally books with a badass, sarcastic female lead - this one is definitely for you! It was a great read and I’ll definitely be looking out for more from Katy Brent! (Hopefully a sequel after the way the epilogue ended 🤞🏻).
Okay. This book. It Slayed me, pun intended. They say you can't judge a book by it's cover, but this one did me in. And the title, oh the title. Having read other reviews, i know some people didn't connect with Miss Kitty b/c of her insta-worthy lifestyle, but i found her lovingly creepy and honestly quite a hoot. The writing brought to mind Steven King who i find quite humorous amidst the horror. ((Kitty lines her kitchen floor w vogue pages before committing the murder of Niall LOL.)). Thank you so very much for the ARC. This was just the read i needed!!
I loved this book, funny in places, sad in others and overall a great read. I’d love to know what happens next with Kitty.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC in return for an honest and unbiased opinion.
Entertaining and twisted thriller. Kitty is kind of a female Dexter, which is very enjoyable. Looking forward to more from this author!
What a book! I couldn’t put it down .. which probably freaked my partner out a bit ..!
Kitty Collins is an influencer but she's also a woman who has had enough .. She's had enough of the way men treat, abuse and hurt women so she’s going to change things, one man at a time.
I’m not lying when I say I couldn’t put this book down. I found myself at 1am sat up reading the last section of the book just having to know what happens.
Kitty is a great character, I mean who isn’t going to love a vegan serial killer! I enjoyed the relationship she had with her friends, the mystery around her father and everything really haha .. I don’t want to say more because of spoilers!
The story is fast paced and very dark with a smattering of humour, friendship and love between the blood! It’s probably important to say there are a few trigger warnings with this book, obviously murder but also abuse, sexual assault and rape.
Huge thanks to Net Galley and HQ Stories for letting me sneak into the mad world of Kitty Collins.
I will also be posting this review to Goodreads and Amazon.
Kit a famous instagramer., self-defence means a lot for Kit this is how it all started., this was a fantastic read from the start I was fairly hooked to the ongoing happening., this book has extreme dark humour which isn't for the faint hearted. This book is paced really nicely and flows well. One taste and then I got a taste for it. Is Kit doing this for justice for her friends or nasty man or is it just for fun now.
Tw: rape, abuse, murder
(I received a digital ARC via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.)
I was blown away! A solid 4 stars.
Kitty Collins, an internet celebrity, doesn't affiliate with any ideas, except that she's a vegan since she swore off meat due to her family meaty business. Her dad's whereabout is unknown, her mom left to France, and she has a nice apartment, a good chunk of money, some friends, and men to kill in her spare time.
Try to read the prologue if you're interested and it would hook you up. Although! Trigger warning for a murder in that prologue, though nothing really graphic afterwards. The book doesn't shy away from rape and substance abuse, and of course, murder, but not in a crude way. It seems like everyone's coming to term that they all have to live with those things behind closed door, and isn't that what we kinda do nowadays?
Kitty is honestly the most likeable character for me to boot. She's so human with a bit of negative tendencies (coughthekillingscough) but she doesn't appear to be very robotic or overly sympathetic. She knows kindness that she extends to her closest friend, Victoria, her doorman Rehan, and a stranger she saved from a guy who stalked her. However, there's this rage inside of her that doesn't need any explanation towards the injustice the world has on women. She had seen it firsthand everywhere and she decided to do something about it.
How to Kill Men and Get Away With It is truly an interesting book. It was funny and enraging, but not too much. Of course, there were some 'huh?' moments for me but they were all overshadowed by the better parts. I might get myself a physical copy of it later!
I really enjoyed how unhinged this main lead is. She might turn off a few squirmish readers. But if you've ever had a thought or two about murdering douchebag men, this novel will satisfy your bloodthirsty. Can't wait for more people to experience this.
Kitty is a social influencer. She is rich beyond most people's comprehension. Her life is one party are another and she is bored of it. One night she is attacked but her attacker dies. This makes kitty feel so good, although shaken by the incident and alive for one. She starts a one woman crusade to rid the world of abusive men that escape traditional justice. She meets Charlie and views to stop but can she?
“The world is a better place without some people contaminating it.”
What do you get when you mix a rich vegan with a conscious? A serial killer of course!
How to Kill Men and Get Away With It by Katy Brent is twisted, laugh-out-loud funny, new-age “women’s revenge” story that was nothing like I have ever read! Kitty Collins quite literally has everything: she is rich, a big-time Instagram Influencer, and has a circle of hot, rich, entitled friends that don’t understand reality. Kitty is an heiress from a “Meat” family which means she has easy access to abattoirs and mincers – and she knows how to use them! But Kitty has rules about who she kills: of course, men only, and they must be predators or abusers of some kind. “Killing must serve a purpose or it’s just plain murder. . . . The men I kill deserve it.”
This is a fun, fast-paced read that you won’t want to put down. I admit in the beginning I felt like the story line felt forced and like the author was trying too hard (overall the story is a little over the top) but anyone who loves Dexter, believes in the #metoo movement, and wants a good laugh (or OMG! Eye-roll moment) while reading about getting turned on while killing a prick – this book is for you!
As a woman, this book really makes you sit down and think. Especially with the recent horrific abduction and killing of Eliza Fletcher, Katy Brent really hit me literally from page one where she dedicates this book to “every woman who has ever walked home with her keys between her fingers.” It’s scary what we have to think about while walking home and Kitty fully explains how we are allowed to “be angry at the injustice in the world.”
If you are of the faint of heart, offended easy, can’t take a joke, or don’t like dark humor – then this is NOT for you. I found it all engrossing and was quickly hooked – Brent is cheeky and unforgiving and God Bless her for it! Also, there is some romance built into these killings, softening Kitty's heart some! I I give this 4.2 stars and will read anything Brent writes in the future!
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of this addicting novel, all opinions are honest and my own!
I'm going to start by saying that I think the cover for this book, and the tag lines/blurb are wildly misleading. They make this book sound like it at the very least has comedic/romcom elements. It doesn't. Be prepared, this is less Dial A for Aunties and more gender flipped American Psycho (only with more coherent sentences, and set in London).
Don't get me wrong, it's highly readable, compelling and really draws you in. Against all the odds, Kitty manages not to be an unlikable protagonist. It's set amongst the Chelsea influencer set, and Kitty takes the law into her own hands when she decides she's had enough of men not taking no for an answer. The ending did lack a bit of bite for me, and I felt Kitty deserved to have more consequences for one of the murders, but overall this is a solid book. It's just not a light beach read!
This took what I expected from this book and stamped all over it but somehow created a masterpiece, I really liked it.
Kitty Collins and her friends are the stuff of dreams for their followers on Instagram. Privileged, entitled and very rich, they live life to the full. But are they happy? That is questionable when their every move is photographed and documented. As a major influencer, Kitty is adored by her followers, but she has a secret that she has to keep under wraps.
This is a bizarre story! Quite apart from reading like a Harrods stock list, the actions and events of the main character are completely unbelievable! For this book you need to shelve any beliefs you may have regarding crime scenes, dead bodies, cctv, et al, because they won’t cut it here!
Very much a book for lovers of Made in Chelsea and the like, but not for those who appreciate a good story.
At times funny, dark and totally mad! Not one for me, but I’m sure it will be appreciated by the social media gang.
2* for it being a quick read!
I rate this 4.25. It writes a lot about the technological driven lifestyle in this century, with all the glamour and trend around being an influencer, and the fallout after in terms of mental health and the reality that is life. It is a book relevant to now. However I do share the sentiments with the author that my daughters won’t be reading this book for a long long time yet. The issues brought about strong ethical element that i’m not sure will sit well with me if it is happening in the real life. Where to draw the line, as depicted at the end of this book. In summary it is a good book, can’t help but to keep reading, although some plot lines are slightly predictable, Charlie kept me guessing and I wonder if there’s something secret about him, thank goodness it is on my e-reader. The con bit is I do find certain bit a little too descriptive for me and my brain just wouldn’t concentrate on it, but that’s my design flaw rather than the book’s.
I was provided an ARC by NetGalley and HQ publishing in exchange for an honest review.
I wish there would have been more character development for the main character, but that's really my only complaint. It wasn't necessarily what I was expecting. Definitely had more gore than what I was expecting based off the carefree murder cover! (Is carefree murder a thing? I guess it is now.) The main character is a Dexter-esque type character but instead of going after killers, she goes after men who attack women. I would love to see this as a mini-series! All in all it was a fun read. A little predictable in some parts, but the final twist shocked me!
Kitty Collins is an Insta Influencer with daddy issues. When a scumbag guy tries to do scumbag things in the middle of the street to Kitty, and he accidentally falls on his own broken wine bottle. Oops! Kitty realizes that she can help rid the world of other neanderthals with the help of the meat processing empire that her dad built. Pick up your copy and read along while Kitty juggles work, friends, love, a stalker, and, oh yeah, murder!
Thank you to the publishers and to NetGalley for the ARC! This book is INCREDIBLE. I loved it so so much. The writing is hilarious, the main character clearly has issues but honestly I was rooting for her the whole time. The book has a theme of sexual assault as well as some quite graphic scenes of murder, so definitely check trigger warnings before reading but I honestly couldn’t recommend this book enough. So so so good.
I have always been a massive fan of true crime and so when I heard about this book, I knew it was something I’d enjoy and I couldn’t wait to read it & so with that id like to say a special thanks to the author, Katy Brent, HQ Stories and netgalley for kindly sending me an e-copy of it.
For anyone wanting to read the book but checking reviews first, you're safe with me, there are no spoilers in this review, only positive comments and why I would highly recommend this book to anyone's TBR pile.
Starting with our MC, Kitty. I loved her. I thought she was an absolute savage and brilliantly written! I found her dark sense of humour & sarcasm very entertaining and often found myself laughing & highlighting passages and quotes I liked throughout.
I feel like this is definitely a must-read for any true crime fans out there, I mean, I don't think you could go wrong with this book, she is like the female version of Dexter, only she's more relatable. I also liked that she was a serial killer with a code, I thought it made her rather unique.
I loved that the story was set in London, it made me enjoy it more because I grew up there, in Fulham to be exact, so Kitty and I would have practically been neighbours! Reading it was like a little trip down memory lane as I know the surrounding areas very well, so It wasn’t hard to imagine or place myself there within the story.
I'll throw in a trigger warning here as the book does deal with some heavy themes from murder, rape, domestic abuse & violence against women in general and in this case, men too.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for their next read.
This book was such a good quick read and I could not put it down and was able to finish it within a day. You have Kit who decides to take a chance and rid the world of those that always manage to get away with hurting others. Kit decides to use her own method of making the world just a little brighter and this book had a lot of humor and also went over many issues we all have encounter and may have to face at one point or another. The end was also a surprising twist and had me guessing throughout the entire book.
Was able to receive this book thru NetGalley for my honest review.
I wasn’t sure I’d enjoy this book as it’s not the type of thing I usually read – but I loved it! I found some of the language very shocking (I’ll repeat that - very shocking) but I couldn’t stop reading. I didn’t particularly like Kitty as a person but her antics made me laugh out loud at times. A very gruesome but very entertaining story, and I’d love to read the follow-on if there is one. Very well written and a fast pace. Great! Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the advanced copy.
This was a diff book from why I typically read, but I definitely enjoyed it. It was fast paced, well written and got my attention from the start of the book. This was a book I was able to fly through! It had me intrigued in the best ways possible. I’m excited to see what happens when this book is published. It’s sure to be a hit!!
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced readers copy!
