Thanks to Netgalley and Orion UK for this ACE..

I didn't realise initially that this book was a YA book, although I realised fairly quickly due to the writing style.

A good storyline which kept me engrossed, although there was a fair amount of superfluous detail which I found a little annoying in parts. An easy read which piqued my interest even if there were elements that didn't quite add up.

I would like to thank @netgalley @orionpublishinggroup for allowing me to read a copy of this arc ahead of release.

This book is really quite interesting and focuses on relationships. This is my first read by this author and I was drawn to the cover which is why I requested it. I'm a sucker for a really good cover.

Pippa's best friend Heather goes missing and nobody really bats an eyelid as she is pretty, popular and wild. Is she just seeking attention like everyone thinks?  Pippa's mum has never really liked Heather and doesn't like her daughter hanging out with her.  She also doesn't like Heather's mum who is a Doctor as she feels she looks down on her and the other mums. All this changes when Heather is found dead.

What follows is a really twisty, intense and gripping thriller. The dynamics of the relationships between the two best friends and also the mother's are interesting and complex making for a dramatic read. It's a fast paced read and there is a mix of likeable characters as well as not so likeable.

When Pippa's best friend goes missing on a school run, no one thinks twice. Heather is pretty, popular, and more than a little wild. Most people think she's ran away for the attention. Others say girls like her always get what's coming to them. Pippa's mother. Abbie has never liked Heather. Or her mother Michelle, a successful doctor who thinks she's too good for the school mums' group. But when Heather turns up dead, everything changes.

This is a well written, creepy, tense and twisted read. The relationships between the women and girls are complex. Pippa and Heather had been best friends since childhood, but they share a secret that one of them doesn't like. Some of the characters you'll love, others you'll love to hate. The pace is fast throughout.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #OrionPublishingGroup and the author #CarysJones for my ARC of #SheHadItComing in exchange for an honest review.

Absolutely awful.
The plot is almost non existent, one very long very slow burning mystery- what happened to Heather?
It'll take you two brain cells to guess and hundreds of pages to confirm what is obvious within the first few chapters.
Understanding this is an ARC I'd still presumed it would atleast have a cursory edit but the writing is riddled with grammatical errors, spelling errors and missing words.
I wouldn't usually leave such a harsh review but there was nothing redeeming in this book.
It gets one star solely because I managed to drag myself through to the end.p0

Unfortunately this book left a lot to be desired, the idea was okay but the characters weren’t particularly pleasant and the plot was incredulous in places not one of my favourites.

I am sorry to say that I found the pace of this book to be very slow. I didn't like the characters, and just didn't care what happened to them. So not a good read for me.

Seriously dark and intensely compelling read. The story explores the rocky relationship between two teenage girls and their interdependencies and weaknesses. This takes a dramatic turn when one of the two girls goes missing whilst on a school cross country run and her best friend was the last to see her alive.
I felt the portrayal of what is important to teenage girls in their day to day lives was exceptional and felt real and accurate and the insights were heightened by being privy to the notes they wrote to each other during the run up to the incident (pun intended) It reminded me very much of the way I communicated with my school friends in a lifetime before social media and internet.
The factoring in of the girls’ wider families and the effect wider life events was also believable as part of the stresses and strains of adolescence and starting to gain understanding of an adult world which you are both ready but also not ready for.
The psychology explored at the end of the book was also fascinating and added to the premise.
There was a slightly unbelievable factor to the final outcome, which didn’t quite sit right for me but it didn’t detract too much from the overall tale and premise. I’d definitely recommend this read.

I was so disappointed in this book. Very slow paced and predictable. The characters were flat and very unlikable. I would not class this book as a thriller more like a mediocre crime story. This is my opinion and I am sure other readers will enjoy it more just not for me.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in return for giving an honest review.

Pippa and Heather have a love/hate relationship. Friends since childhood, now sixteen their best friends status is wearing thin. Heather is a domineering and forceful character, speaks her mind and has little tact. This causes many squabbles between the girls and their other school friends. When Heather tells Pippa that Pippa’s dad is sleeping with Heather’s mum things start to get even more strained. If only something could be done about Heather’s lies and nasty ways.

Before I start this review, I would just like to say how much I loved Jones’ “We Are All Liars”, and eagerly looked forward to this book. Sad to say it is nowhere near in the the same class as the author’s previous works, and if it were not for the adult themes, then I would have said this was definitely a YA book. The relationship between the girls is only interesting if you are of that age and the constant name dropping of the labels that the characters were using and wearing was annoying and boring. The characters were mainly superficial and not at all likeable, and the plot predictable. The denouement was a good twist, and worthy of the author, but I think most people would have worked the majority of the plot out pretty early on.

A real shame about this book as I know the author is much better than this, and hope it’s just a blip.

With a good editing and a bit of tweaking this would make an excellent YA offering, hence the 3*.

Thank you NetGalley.

This was a great book would definitely be recommending it to my fellow thriller readers.

It is about what what a toxic friendship can do to not only yourself but others around you. Has lots of twists and turns which will keep you guessing to the end.

Unfortunately I did not enjoy this book.
The writing style was fine but it was very predictable, dragged a simple story out and none of the characters had likeable or relatable qualities - they would be the type of folk I avoided in real life so I wasn’t particularly invested in their well-being. Overall it was just pretty miserable. I carried on to the end hoping for last minute twist that would change everything but that didn’t come. I wouldn’t really class this as a thriller, more an unravelling of a story.

I love books about mothers and daughters and this one really delivered. I particularly enjoyed the exploration of complex female friendships that didn't shy away from the ugliness that can linger behind the pleasant smiles of teenagers.

Unsettling, fast-paced, and wonderfully dark. I didn't want to put it down.

Well, it looks like Carys Jones has done it again!
I really enjoyed this, it does exactly what I expected when I picked it up, plenty of twists and turns and a satisfying resolution.
A twisty, compulsive mystery - the perfect book tok read for 2023!

This book was difficult to read
It was about Heather Oxon and Pippa Parks who were best friends
But as it a running cross country at Sefton park that Heather had run away from
The police found out what had happened and why
I had an ARC

Pippa and Heather are typical teenage best friends; swapping clothes, talking about boys, mild bullying and gossiping that is until there’s a secret one of them doesn’t like. When Heather goes missing during a cross country run and because of her wild nature most people think she’s run away. But when Heather returns up dead and pippa was the last person to see her alive their lives get turned upside down.

Although the plot isn’t winning unique awards it was an engaging and well written story that keeps you guessing, and obviously has some character you love to hate!

She Had it Coming was a good story about destructive relationships. I liked the story, I didn’t quite expect it go go in the direction it did near the end but I couldn’t put it down and really enjoyed the book.
