The High Mountain Court is a must read for fans of A Court of Thorns and Roses.
Remy, the red witch, has been in hiding from witch hunters since the fall of the High Mountain Court when she was seven years old. She is thrown into the path of Hale, the rogue prince from a fellow court. They join forces to try and discover ancient powerful artefacts to overthrow the evil king of the northern court.
There's so much to love about this book. I love the idea of witches and Fae being together and really enjoyed the worldbuilding and history of the different courts. There are some great characters and a found family troupe (who doesn't love one of those?) The relationship that developed between Remy and Hale was heart warming, however, I would have liked a bit more enemies to lovers going on and more of them getting to know each other. This aspect could have been developed more and possibly made into 2 books.
The cast of characters is diverse and the plot moves really quickly. Yes, I saw the big twist coming, but then I still loved it when it came to the reveal time. I have a hard time with a lot of FMC but Remy was a perfect blend of badass, flawed and kind. I loved following her journey.
I'm really looking forward to diving back into the world for book 2. Thank you so much to the publisher and Netgalley for an Arc in return for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book! A fantasy romance, with a slightly predictable plot, some dodgy sex scenes, and the writing was a little rough around the edges - the author seemed to info dump throughout rather than make the backstory or fantasy elements weave into the story and this may be just because it's the author's first book.
Very bog standard and obviously trying to ride on the tail coats of ACOTAR, but still a fun read. I will be carrying on the series with the other books being companions to this opening story arc.
Trigger warnings for:
death of parents, loss of loved ones, blood, gore, and sexism.

This was a fun, angsty, and refreshing fantasy romance read! I enjoyed the story a lot and will be continuing the series. I especially liked that the FMC grew a lot as the story progressed. I did feel like things were maybe a little rushed in places and that some scenes faded into one another with similarity while they were travelling in the beginning, so it felt like not much time had passed but a lot had changed within the group dynamics without the reader seeing that. The steam was good, not wildly spicy but it’s definitely there. I was a bit disappointed that Remy wasn’t more active in the final scenes of the book with the battle, especially after all the build up. But I’m looking forward to Rua’s book.
All in all, I feel like this was good but could have been better if a really good editor took control to help with the pacing and clunky sentences. It’s a does-what-it-says-on-the-tin read, I predicted almost everything that happened, but it was still fun anyway.

I got a free copy from Netgalley all opinions are my own.
Sometimes when you pick up a book you just know that you're going to like it.
I really enjoy the story/plot. I think that the world building is pretty good, and I like the magic system.
I like the characters, and haven't found any of the main ones annoying etc.
The book gave me TOG vibes, which is a welcome since that's my favourite series .
A specific scene really gave me ACOMAF. Though I'm sure scenes like that have played out in other books etc before.
Overall I really liked this book, and I will definitely be continuing with this series!

The High Mountain Court is the first book in the fantasy romance series The Five Crowns of Okrith by author AK Mulford. Full of fantasy, adventure and romance this series will appeal to fans of Sarah J Maas, Jennifer L Armentrout, Lexie Blake and Brigid Kemmerer. Each book in the series focuses on a different couple. This one follows Remy, who may be the last of the red witches after as a child she was rescued during a siege which killed her family. Forced into hiding she has lived in fear, but a chance encounter from a mysterious fae might just change everything. This book has everything you have come to love and expect from fantasy romance; fated mates, fae, waring courts, magic and badass female characters and swoony worthy male leads. This was a fun, easy to read story which will leave you wanting to know what will happen in the next book. Thank you to AK Mulford, HarperCollins and Netgalley for an advanced ebook.

I absolutely loved this book ! Thank you NetGalley for this ARC in exchange of my honest review.
That was such a great discovery for this end of year. I am now ordering a physical copy of it and desperately waiting to read book 2. If you love a fantasy enemy to lover romance, with an interesting plot and nice side characters too, this is book is for you !
I couldn’t put this book down, it was nice to read and so addictive. I fell in love with the story and the world building, I really get attached to the characters and not just the MCs. But in my opinion I would have love to know a bit more about the background of all of the characters in this book (I am being greedy ?). I would have loved also a bit more details about their journey and a little bit more of trouble for the protagonist. But again I am not going to remove a star because of that ! I loved it, and of course we will always want to suggest things and want more content from a book we like.
Overall everything made me love this book, the romance was steamy enough, the journey and the plots was interesting and different.
I am not going to right you a summary of this book here, but I can tell you you are going to fall in love with Remy and her companions.
Go for it you won’t regret it!!

Welcome to the 1st book in this trilogies. Remy is a red witch they have been Hunted for years. Hale is one of the fae prince's. The High Court destroyed the red witches home years ago many of the Red witches then went into hiding to avoid the witch hunters.
Through this story we follow Remy and Hale as they go on an epic quest to deafet the evil king of the Northern Court.
This book contains all the magical and mystical creatures you want. I love the descriptive writing in this book.
A fantastic debut romance from a rising talent. Throughout Remy's journey, you'll want to grow along with her, and Hale won't stop harping on the idea that relationships work best when two people learn and develop together. They have such a wonderful friendship, and I loved how it developed. The way they interact and get to know one another was the ideal prelude to the hot scenes, which paid off even more!

4.5 🌟
Fae, witches, magic, romance - what else could you need? 😏
I have absolutely adored this book. I instantly fell in love with Remy & Hale and their growing bond together. There are so many twists and turns in this story you really are kept on your feet throughout the whole book. I love the magic system with all the different types of witches and what they can do - it was a nice touch to see what happened to the Blue witches under the Northern King’s reign. Just proves how much of a tyrant he is.
Hale’s entourage were also some of my favourite characters and you feel the comradery between them. I loved how they accepted the witches into their group and they all came to care for one another. I honestly hope that we see more of everyone in the next book, I’m not sure where the next book will go but I am all here for it.
The last quarter of the book just had so much happen that I was left reeling and couldn’t stop reading, I just needed to know what would happen. I would definitely recommend this book to any fantasy reader.

Firstly, thank you for the ARC.
Secondly, WOW. I love Hale and Remy so much. What wonderful, fleshed out, characters - and the chemistry between them was incredible.
I really enjoyed the story being told from Remy's perspective. The world building was so well done, and I cannot wait to see where this story goes.
I also loved the side characters - Carys and Bri were great and I love seeing the representation.
Huge fan of this book!

I received a copy of eARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
This was a beautifully written ACOTAR retelling.
Now, this is something that I liked, but on the other hand, it was built up faster so it kinda missed that strong message that holds the whole ACOTAR storyline. Someone might dislike it because of it, but keep in mind, it is its own story by the end and you should read it as such.
The world-building is beautiful and maybe the strongest part of the book. The friendships are to die for and Remy and Hale are such a swooning couple. The story brings out a strong family vibe, it does flow a bit fast but in the end, they got your heart.
It reads easily and the story is empowered with diversity in a lot of fields.

I really loved The High Mountain Court! This story was fast paced and super interesting, I had a hard time putting it down! The world building was so intriguing and well done. The characters were well written and I loved all of them.. especially Remy, Hale, Bri, Talhan, and Carys who became a found family that I adored! The chemistry between Remy and Hale was perfect; and I loved how their relationship slowly progressed even though their attraction was almost instant. There were so many moment that had me on the edge of my seat or nearly in tears! The ending was satisfying, but I look forward to reading Rua’s story!

I hadn’t heard of this trilogy before seeing it on NetGalley (massive thank you!) and requesting all 3 books. Having zero expectations, I must tell you that I thoroughly enjoyed it!
It has everything you expected of a fantasy quest about lost relics, magic and destroyed kingdoms. Intrigues, action, adventures and spicy romance to name a few and all VERY decently presented.
The characters were interesting and the dialogues were smart and humorous. The story isn’t something unique but it is nicely written and easy to read that makes it a perfect read to get lost in its pages. Lastly, I’m not one for romance but I must tell you that the flirting in the book was worth reading ;)
Overall, very happy that got my hands on these beauties and I’d definitely advise you to have a look at them!

Whilst there is world-building and an overarching plot, you're not bogged down in made up languages and you don't have to refer to the world map every 5 minutes to remember where you are!
All your favourite fantasy figures are represented: fae, witches, humans. There are fated mates, magic and quests. It feels a bit like Dungeons and Dragons come to life and I really enjoyed it. I'm a sucker for a hidden identity type trope and this delivered.
Remy, a red witch, is hiding in plain sight amongst Brown witches (Healers), trying to stay under the radar of witch hunters. Enter Hale, of the Eastern Court, who is on a quest for some fabled artifacts, and his posse of Fae warriors. Remy is strong, emotionally and magically. She loves her found family and would do anything for them. Hale and his team interrupt their plan of being incognito though. Hale himself has a compelling backstory and I enjoyed learning more about him during their journey. Don't be too quick to judge some of the characters - allies may be found in some very overlooked places!
The characters are all fully formed and have distinct personalities. They are not "perfect" and have their flaws. What I loved most about the world was its inclusiveness. It's LGBTQ+ friendly, has all sizes of people represented and love is love, no matter who or what you are. Each area has a distinct feel and the descriptions provided really cement the vision of them in your head.
Whilst there is prejudice between the races represented it doesn't mean that Fae/Witches/Humans can't or don't work together to overturn the High King. They just have their own strengths and weaknesses.
The banter is on point and you know that this team may take the pee out of each other but they are in this together.
Onwards and Upwards to book two!

I gave this story 4 out of 5 stars because the fated love was so beautiful and the growth of the characters was inspiring. The rest of the books in this series will be just as moving as well, I can just tell.

I really enjoyed this debut, it was fast paced and fun, I got into it really quickly and ended up very invested, so much so that I really raced through the last 25%. The action in the final quarter was brilliant and gut wrenching at times.
There are certainly some elements that I found too similar to other fae fantasy romances, especially a few scenes that were very reminiscent of ACOTAR or FBAA, and this took away from the romance a little bit for me and pulled my rating down. It felt a bit formulaic, which was a shame as I really liked Remy in particular as a character.
The thing that really made the book for me though was the cast of side characters who were a lot of fun to get to know. Their relationships with Remy were a huge part of how I came to love her, and I hope we get more of them in future books.
Overall this was a lot of fun and I'm keen to get started on Rua's story.

Remy is a Red Witch, her kind hunted ever sincethe brutal slaughter of the High Mountain Court. When she is recruited by Hale, a Fae Prince from the Eastern Court, to help track down some powerful artefacts, she is drawn back into a world of scheming and betrayal.
I absolutely adored Remy and Hale, and the entire world of Okrith! Brilliantly written, this book was completely gripping and I couldn't put it down!
I received a copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC. I've read fantasy books with Fae and magic in them before, but it wasn't until this time that I discovered Witch merged with Fae world and kingdom. Although it has a promising beginning and a lot of action scenes, the plot is not strong enough to carry it through the end. I also struggle to connect with Remy, the main character in this book.
This is exacerbated by the hurried pace. Aside from that, the author employs a third-person point of view, which disrupts my concentration due to the emphasis on numerous character narratives. Nonetheless, I can enjoy this book because I am a fan of the trope

Name: The High Mountain Court
Author: A K.Mulford
Rating: 5 stars - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Genre: Adult Fantasy
Pages: 368 paperback
Book one of four in the 'Five Crowns of Okrith' series
The High Mountain Court is a fast paced, enemies to lovers, adult fantasy that will have you gripped from the first page.
This fabulous story gets right to the point very quickly with limited but detailed world building the story is very character driven with the vast majority of the book taking place on the road or camping out. It is not until later on we have much more in depth settings and by then I promise you'll have fallen in love with the characters and will be hooked!
So much happens in this one book you don't have time to get bored or there be a dip in the story and for this alone I loved every second. The characters are so complex and flawed and fleshed out you can't help but feel you know them personally and are cheering or crying along with them throughout their journey.
I'm a sucker for fated mates at the best of times but this one is done with such a new and unique spin on the concept it feels very new. With secrets, tricks and lots of magic I would highly recommend this enchanting book.
I could not put it down and I can not wait for the next chapter in this story!
A huge thank you to A.K.Mulford, HarperCollins UK and Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

5 Stars
I really enjoyed this book! The world building was fantastic and I felt it really drew me in.
The plot was a little slow to start with but it really delivered by the end of the book. The plot twists were amazing and some I did see coming but others I did not. The last half of the book was definitely the best.
I felt the characters were well developed throughout the book and I throughly enjoyed the secondary characters too. I enjoyed that they also had there own story.
I really enjoyed the witches, fae and the magic throughout this book too.
I’m definitely looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
Thank you to Netgalley, A K Mulford and Harper Collins UK for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Witches, fae and spice? What more could I ask for in a book. I didn't expect to love this book as much as I did. I initially thought it would be just another fantasy series following the same path as most other books. Well I was wrong. This was innovative and beautifully written. The characters were so well developed and I can't wait to read the next two books.
