This was such an enjoyable book. If you love Fae and paranormal romances, found families, enemies to lovers, only one bed and traveling tropes you will really enjoy this adventure.
Lets begin with world building, its pretty vast with North, east south and west all visited and all terrain and atmospheres vary so the author does a really great job of building the world around the characters and establishing the area and its lore throughout the traveling that occurs.
The author uses quite descriptive accounts of sights, sounds and smells that aid the reading experience and I found each area easy to differentiate from one another.
I quite enjoyed the magic system in this book, I think there is more yet to be discovered but I like that the magic is varied to groups of witches and that witches are in a mixed realm with fae and humans with equal power due to the artefact's of the world.
The found family feel was strong in this book and I really loved the characters Hale was a really interesting character with some great characteristics and had some good growth throughout the story.
Remy had a whole lot of development throughout the story, from time to time it felt a little quick in the development and she seemed to trust some too quickly and others not enough in my opinion but the history did answer for this and it did work within the storyline. I did feel the was a fairly quick turn around in the romance but agin there are reasonings for this and I still hugely enjoyed the developments.
It was such a good book to feel transported to another world with some unexpected turns, a few tears and whole lot of adventure. I cant wait to read the next in the series.

The High Mountain Court is a fast-paced, thrilling fantasy romance that is full of yearning, humour and plot twists.
The main romance in this book is AMAZING. It is so incredibly well written and believable. The relationship develops slowly but realistically, endearing both characters to the reader. It has a little spice which is well done and felt perfect for the tone of the book.
The cast of characters is vast and diverse. The secondary characters are well developed and all very different. I loved the dynamic between the whole crew; it gave major found family vibes.
And the plot - wow, just wow. Absolutely incredible rollercoaster ride of a story which I cannot wait to continue in the second instalment!

Though I have only rated this book 3 stars, I think it’s only fair to begin with the elements that I liked. Firstly, the ideas behind it with the combination of fae and witches shows a different take on the usual fantasy characters and they sit alongside each other well within the narrative. Secondly, the plot is clearly well thought through with engaging world-building knowledge that helps to give depth to the tale and adds to the twists and turns of the plot.
This was an exciting premise and it had so much potential but, unfortunately, I struggled with the writing style. I found the overuse of simple sentences hindered the flow of the narrative making it a challenge to read. I also felt that there should have been more emphasise on building the relationship between Remi and Hale as it just seemed to fast paced for their outcome (no spoilers here!). They are such interesting characters, it was a shame they didn’t have more romantic tension between them!
I hasten to add that these are just my opinions and there are plenty of excellent reviews which award this book much higher than me so, if it appeals to you, give it a go!

If you like A court of thorns and roses, and other typical fantasy romance books, this will probably work for you. For me I found it very formulaic and the writing is quite basic. However, if you're looking for a fae romance with a diverse cast and a bit of adventure, this will certainly do that and pass the time.

Many thanks to HarperCollins UK and A.K. Mulford for the advanced copy of The High Mountain Court via NetGalley, in return for my honest and unbiased review. Quick note: I don’t recap plots in my reviews, as it’s easy enough to read the book’s synopsis and blurbs, I purely focus on my feelings & opinions of how the books makes me feel.
I absolutely loved this book. It features my number one wheelhouse trope: fae Fated Mates. I did not know this before I started reading, so it came as a wonderful surprise. And I LOVED IT. It catapulted the book – and hopefully the series – into my top five of 2022.
The story is very well written. It is detailed and well-paced. Characters are well-developed and whilst some things may seem predictable, there are some surprises which even well-seasoned fantasy readers won’t easily see coming.
Some parts are quite emotional and I properly teared up. Mulford writes romantic passion and emotion very well and rather than landing flat or trite, I felt myself properly moved and transported with the characters. The emotions felt ‘real’, the phrasing heartfelt and I gave my husband the stink eye for not declaring his feelings as passionately.
Remy is an interesting character. She’s strong but weak. Clever but sometimes a bit dumb. Powerful but powerless. At times Remy and the other main characters could be seen as morally grey. Which is always a great conundrum if you ask me!
Add in a bit of spice and it’s like catnip for me. I’ve already dove (dived?) straight into the next book in the series and have been recommending it to friends and followers. Yes please!

I loved this book. If you are a fan of Sarah J Maas or Holly Black so will you. 5 stars the cover said nothing but everything, rich gold and black..I truly could not find fault with any of this and I loved Remy. Thank you A K Mulford for the book and Netgalley for allowing me to review it

Of all the things you could be in Okrith - never be a red witch. After the High Mountain fae and their red witches were slain red witches have been feared and hunted. Remy is a red witch living in hiding, posing as a safe brown witch, when she is found by Prince Hale. Hale promises to return her to her fellow red witches if she helps him on a quest - to find two talisman which would help return the High Mountain Prince to power. With a chance to be reunited with her people Remy agrees to help.
I devoured this book after it was recommended to me. It's honestly a fantastic read. I love our two main characters Remy and Hale - I think they might be one of the best duos I've read in a long time but I also adore our side characters - everyone was so well defined and relatable I honestly just love them.
The story had me gripped from start to finish and I just didn't want it to end. Am I disappointed that books 2 and 3 are not about our main duo in book 1? Of course I am. Will I still read them? Probably!
Easy 5 star book!!

This was one of those books that makes you forget you’re reading. A completely compelling story that held my attention from the first yo the last page. Yes several tropes were familiar but I found myself loving every bit of it. Such a wonderful story of magic and romance- perfect for fans of ACOTAR, FBAA and the Plated Prisoner series

Thankyou to netgalley for the opportunity to read this incredible book!
So if you're a fan of ACOTAR you'll love this.
It has everything we could ever want in a fantasy book- humans, fae and witches!
Tropes such as one bed, enemies to lovers, fates mates, found family and we have SPICE! This is honestly so well written and has a steady to fast pace which I loved!
So glad I have the others to read ASAP!
You need this book if you love fae books!

Yes. Yes. And again, yes.
This was superb, amazing, fantastic.
Seriously, since I started I couldn’t stop. A fantasy novel that is kinda hard to understand because, duh, fantasy with crazy original world building being thrown at your face, but not once was I bored or thought this was horrible.
Every singe character, from Heather to Bri, to Rua and even that cat we see in the first chapter have my heart.
This found family and friendship made me tear up at times, but I was also chewing my nails, wanting to know what would happen next.
It has been a while since I read such a gripping fantasy. I’m 10000% jumping into the next one.

I loved the map at the beginning of this book, it helped keep track of the adventures and different kingdoms.
The plot itself made me curious but the pacing was a bit slow for me and I found myself skipping paragraphs here and there. The world building was creative but at times the descriptions were repetitive.
It took quite a while to really get going and I did guess the major plot twists early on.
That being said I did enjoy the main characters and even the side characters were fun to read. I hope the next book has a bit more depth to it and I'd like to see more than one POV.

Many Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing the digital review copy in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. This book is due to be published on
Before I begin this review, I will confess to having read this book when it was first published a few years ago, however, I didn’t realize it at the time of requesting the book. So, I re-read the book to have a clear memory of the content.
This book does contain some trigger warnings, such as Violence, War, Death, and Assault. I would judge this to be an Adult, Fantasy series due to the graphic sexual scenes.
Nineteen-year-old Remy believes she is the last red witch alive; she has been hiding since she was a child because the northern court has vowed that no one from the high mountain court shall live. While working in a tavern in the western kingdom, four fae warriors arrive, Remy tries to flee but is not strong enough to outrun them, little does she know that one of these warriors is Price Hale of the Eastern kingdom, who claims to need her help, before all of the realms succumb to the might of the northern kingdom.
Whilst having read this book before; it didn’t stop me from enjoying it just as much. This friends to lovers’ troupe are still very much on trend, and I enjoyed the twists that the book offered.
My favourite character is Remy as she has such a large character arch and goes through lots of changes and ordeals before she can become strong enough to face the final confrontation at the end of the first book in this series. This book also has a list of good side characters, my favourite being the badass Bri, who brings Remy out of her shell alongside Carys.
There are some other characters in the story that I didn’t feel fit or bring any value to the story, such as Fenrin, but maybe he will make an appearance in the next book.
I think the only critique I have about this book, was some of the settings, The five kingdoms that make up the island of Okrith, aren’t all that big, Remy and Hale travel to most of the courts during the weeks that they travel, and yet the kingdoms terrain are vastly different from each other, such as jungles in the south and wet grey oak and pine forests in the west, It would definitely make more sense to either make the journey longer or to cut off some of the journeys to the other kingdoms.
For this book, I am giving a rating of three. It was an enjoyable read, and I would like to continue with the next in the series.

There is nothing better than starting a new series and nothing worse than realising you have to wait to find out what happens next! This book was page turning, mind blowing and romantic and I just want to get the next instalment now please?

Not going to lie, I absolutely loved this and I actually found myself trying to get to bed earlier to read more!!
I loved the plot, the twists, the characters and the world building.
Does it have ACOTAR vibes? Yes it does but I don't care! Can't wait to read book 2!!

This book had me in a chokehold from the first to the last page.. to the point I had to seek out more and was very pleased to find free novellas on A K Mulford’s website.
It is set in a world where witches have been hunted and so Remy has had to hide most of her life; until four fae seek her out to help them find a magical object which could change the course of everyone’s lives.
It took me 1 day to read this book because it was so fast paced with lots of tropes - one bed, enemies to lovers, fates mates, found family .. and spice! I cried/laughed, it has all the feels!
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this arc. I am looking forward to continuing with this series! In fact I’m starting book two right away.

This book deserves all the stars!
A.K. Milford's has this ability to write books that just instantly entraps your attention. Her world building is so subtle that you can imagine being there as soon as you open the book. As soon as I started it, I couldn't put it down.
The twists! The plot line! Oh my, it's just fantastic.
I fell in love with each character along the way and I'm beyond thrilled we get to see more!
I'm still reeling over it, instantly in my top 3 favourite books
Thankyou so much for this ARC NetGalley and Harper Collins

Thankyou very much for letting me read this ARC. I thoroughly enjoyed it! Didn’t see the plot twist coming. It started off a little slow but by half way through I couldn’t put the book down!
I found it very easy to connect with the characters and loved the slow burn.
Would definitely recommend this book.
