Sally & Harry
Sally believes wholeheartedly in romance, the happily ever after and feeling all the fuzzies that go along with love. She saw it every day with her parents until they were tragically killed when she was 16. She grew up quickly and had to take care of her younger sister, Amy, and still continues to do so even though she's an adult. Amy was really annoying me, but I'm happy that she slowly got her act together.
Harry didn't grow up with the best role models as parents, which turned him off to believing love exists. "He knew he wasn't everyone's cup of tea ~ sarcastic, blunt, stubborn, hard headed" me too Harry, me too! But you can't help but feel bad about what he went through. His parents were pretty awful.
I grew up in the good ole 90's, so the romcom mentions from then were the typical ones. I have never watched When Harry Met Sally, so like, Harry, I had to google the infamous restaurant scene. You won't ever catch me making videos on TikTok, but I've been known to watch some once in awhile. I bet the ones they made would be an adorable hoot to watch.
For every likable character there were just as many unlikable ones, which helped round out the story. It's a little on the longer side, has a cutesy title and fun cover, and I had a great time reading it.

What's it about (in a nutshell):
Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner by Kathryn Freeman is a romantic comedy that is every bit a love letter to rom-com movies. Sally lost her parents much too early, but the one thing she has held onto since their passing is how full of light and love their home had been. She will not accept anything less than that dream for herself. When Harry moves in, Sally meets her opposite in almost every way. Can she make him believe in love, or is their relationship doomed before it even begins?
My Reading Experience:
The first half was slow but very entertaining. I loved the reenactments of romantic comedy movie scenes and could see how they might go viral on TikTok. It was a bit of a stretch to believe that someone like Harry would agree to do the scenes with Sally, but it is still a lot of fun.
The second half, though, had me going through the whole range of emotions: happy, mad, and utterly devasted. The story definitely touched me in powerful and definitive ways. It has meat, and I love that in a romantic comedy. All of this was aided by the chemistry between Harry and Sally, which was palpable and intense.
Relationships, in general, are a big theme in the book. I particularly loved Harry and Sally's friendships with their separate friends. Their friend groups were an incredible mix of loving and authentic. They weren't afraid to speak the truth even when it wasn't wanted or expected. Everyone needs small friend groups such as they have.
Characters:
The character development is extensive. By the end, I had a good understanding of why Harry and Sally thought and felt the way that they did. Is Sally a bit bubbly and addicted to romcoms? Yes, but the reason for that is unearthed as her layers are peeled away. Same with Harry – is he a bit overly surly and unmovable – again, yes, but the reasons are made clear by the end. I also liked the nod to When Harry Met Sally – they are similar to those characters though their story is much different.
Narration & Pacing:
The pacing is slower in the first half and faster in the second half, which I always prefer fast-paced from beginning to end. The narration alternated in focus between Harry and Sally, which worked very well for character development.
Setting:
The setting was inconsequential in this story, for the most part, so it scored poorly on my chart. It's essential for your environment to, at least in a small way, mean something to the story.
But, setting aside, I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I laughed out loud, cried buckets, and wanted to throttle both Harry and Sally at various times. This story really surprised me with how much it made me feel!

Overall this was fun and cute - but I thought Harry had a little toxic masculinity that was a little weird and out of touch? He’s a builder so romcoms are beneath him and girly. But Sally was sweet and the premise was fun

This is the first book I have read by this author and I throughly enjoyed it. A fun easy to read light hearted story. We follow the story of new flatmates Sally and Harry. A drunken bet leads them to badly recreate ‘the lift’ from Dirty Dancing for social media, with the video then going viral. Realising there is potential financial benefit in messing their way through the romcom ionic scenes they embark on a journey of reproducing them with very funny consequences. Definitely worth a read

Harry and Sally end up being room mates to help each other out. The novel is about their viral Dirty Dancing video which gives them ideas for making money. Both characters are likeable and although a bit cheesy you can't help liking this book.

When Harry’s ex-girlfriend refuses to move out of his house, he is desperate to get away from her. When he hears that Sally needs to rent out a room, he takes her up on the offer. Unexpectedly, he also finds himself drawn into Sally’s world of romance movies, despite his cynicism about them. A drunken bets soon leads the new flatmates to (badly) recreate ‘the lift’ from Dirty Dancing, and the video goes viral (#EpicRomcomReenactmentFailure). When they realise that there is money to make from this concept, they decide to recreate their own scenes, one by one. Yet, they also find themselves more interested in each other than the scenes, as they spend time together.
With a similar love for all the movies presented, I loved the concept behind the book. I found Harry to be so sweet in his attempt to dismiss the content of the movies, but doing so because of his feelings for Sally, which he tried to dismiss. Sally is endearing and so understanding of the challenges that Harry is going through. A great read.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I had a hard time getting into the one, although the cover and title definitely drew me in. The pacing felt slow, but I would still encourage you (as readers) to give it a shot if you like rom coms!

This one was so cute and fun! I loved how light it was and fun with this friends to lovers duo recreating famous Romcom scenes and falling in love along the way!
If you love yourself a cute and light romance with Romcom movie vibes this one is definitely for you! Thank you to the publisher for my ARC copy!

This was SO cute. I loved this fun new twist on a romcom. Never thought about how TikTok could be used as a way to fall in love. I loved all of the different romcom Easter eggs and how perfect it was. This was a new spin on how Harry met Sally and I really enjoyed it!

I love all the classic romcom movies. I feel like they just don't make them like they used to anymore, which is sad. This fun story took me right back to all those amazing romcom moments. Sally and Harry realize they can make a little extra cash by reenacting the well-known romcom movie moments and posting them on titok. While doing so, they become friends and develop feelings for each other. I enjoyed both characters and their back stories. I love that even though Sally's sister was pretty dang horrible, Sally never gave up on her. It's a very cute love story with tender and funny moments as well. Recommended to any romcom enthusiast!

An interesting premise, romcom fan meets beefy, practical man who had never experienced love. I loved this book, the various scenes re-enacted were funny and I actually knew most of them (I do enjoy a good romcom). I felt for Harry and his lack of experience of love in his life, so he want aware of what his feelings about Sally meant, but equally her expectations were very high. Three are a few films that I'm now going to catch up on, or revisit ones like Notting Hill. Definitely a feel-good book,a touch spicy in places but one that I really enjoyed.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influenced my review of the book.

This was not for me. I couldn’t get into it at all because the characters were a snooze fest and the writing was not great.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the eARC.

In case I don’t know what to say about this book let me tell you right now that I am in love with it. Such an incredible story! Once you start it you won’t be able to stop reading.
Harry needs a place to stay while he can’t dispose of a problem at his house. Through friends, it was suggested that he could stay with Sally since she has a room to rent. How cute is Harry meeting Sally? Just great with the rom-com theme!
Sally loves pink, red, hearts, romcoms, and all love-related. Harry is a big constructor who doesn’t believe in love. But a video of the two of them recreating a romcom scene somehow goes viral on the internet. It was supposed to be a joke, but apparently, everyone loves it so much that they see it as an opportunity to make some extra money.
All characters are wonderful, each in its way, and bring so much to the story. Sally and Harry are mesmerizing - I felt love, sadness, empathy, joy, … - and all the secondary characters brought not only joy, comfort, friendship, sadness, anger, and rage, but gave context to the lives and personalities of our two main characters.
I liked Harry from the start because I could sympathize with him. Although I like romcoms, I agree with him on one aspect: nobody deserves to live in the middle of so much pink. I loved when he shuddered and said: “Something wrong about the thought of waking up to pink walls”. In case you didn’t notice, I don’t like pink.
I enjoyed the fact that what Harry lacked was because he didn’t know. How can a person who never had love know what it is? It isn’t enough watching it on tv/cinema or reading about it, you need to have felt it somewhere.
This is such an adorable and amazing romcom! And surprisingly soft on the sexy scenes by how much is talked about sex.
It will be one of the best books of the year for me!

Yes. Yes. Yes. No more words are needed. The characters are so fun and lovable. This was, overall, just a lighthearted and enjoyable read.

This is definitely a book for all rom com fans, I had a constant smile on my face reading this book. The many references to various films had me wanting to rewatch them, and follow along with Harry and Sally’s journey.

While the cover and premise of Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner are absolutely adorable, ultimately, the actual story and writing felt quite underdeveloped. I won't nag on this book, as I'm sure it will be perfect for many people's taste, but for me, it felt like it leaned a bit too far into to the cheesiness of its prompt.

This book had me smiling and laughing the whole way through. Obsessed with romcoms Sally looks for her real life romantic hero… can she find it in Harry who she decides to re-enact famous romcom scenes with? Great story to snuggle up and smile with.

Nobody Puts RomComs In The Corner was a laugh-out-loud, adorably fluffy romance!!
It took me a minute to get into but I definitely ended up enjoying this read. Harry and Sally were super lovable characters. Each famous RomCom scene they acted out in their own way was so hilarious.
If you love classic RomCom movies like Pretty Woman, Dirty Dancing and When Harry Met Sally (just to name a few), then you’ve got to read this book. Nobody Puts RomComs In The Corner was just an all-around great read with plenty of humor, character development and lots of swoon moments.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for my copy of this book!

I just LOVED this book. As a big fan of Dirty Dancing just the title was promising. Harry and Sally are lovely and their love has a slowly development that makes you anxious with all that sexual tension.
The rom com references are marvellous, classic.
It is an easy going book, it reads fast and leave you floating in clouds.
Do not read it if you don't like rom com, you won't like it.

thank you to one more chapter & netgalley for this arc in exchange for an honest review.
nobody puts romcoms in the corner follows sally, a love enthusiast who wants her romcom fantasy, and harry, who doesn’t believe in love and HATES romcoms.
harry moves in with sally when his ex refuses to move out of his house, and one spontaneous night, harry and sally recreate the lift from dirty dancing, prompting a series of videos recreating different scenes from romcoms.
this book was so cute and i absolutely adored the concept!
