I absolutely loved this book it gave me all the feels.🥰 I want to give it all the stars!
Harry was adorable I loved him. He was such a grump compared to Sally and her bright and loveable personality.
I was rooting for them both from the start. The iconic romcom scenes they recreated and put on TikTok had me laughing. I loved every moment of the book.
The chemistry between Harry and Sally was perfect. I enjoyed all the romcom references throughout too. It’s made me want to rewatch a few of them.
This was the first book I’ve read by this author and I’ll definitely read more.
Thank you to Rachel’s Random Resources and the publisher for having me on the tour and for my gifted ebook.
This cute romcom is a light fun flirty read. Sally needs a temporary lodger to rent an extra bedroom in her two bedroom flat. Harry needs to temporarily rent a place to sleep. Perfect for each other, you would think. Sally is true romantic and huge romcom fan and Harry is a cynic who has doesn’t believe in love…not so perfect for each other. As they are forced into the closed quarters they begin to crush on each other.
I had super high expectations going into this book because I thought that the premise was fun and I liked the cover, but overall I wasn’t a huge fan. The writing felt a little slow or maybe it felt that way since I struggled to finish the book at all or stay focused on the characters and their storyline.
I didn't fully enjoy the characters but didn't dislike them either, they just seemed a little bland to me.
This book is both Cheesy and cute in equal measure. It's quirky characters have so much personality, there is so much chemistry this book totallu has my heart. This is the perfect book if you love a romantic comedy, the narrative is well written, this easy cosy read is easy to lose yourself in. I will definitely read any new Kathryn Freeman Releases.
Sally doesn’t quite know what to make of her new lodger, Harry. He’s mysterious and yet, there is something about him. She reasons to herself that it’s only a crush and that it will pass….won’t it?
Harry is annoyed that he’s had to find somewhere to live despite the fact that he has a perfectly good house. If only his cheating girlfriend would move out of it.
When a re-enactment of Sally and Harry doing the Dirty Dancing lift goes viral, they decide to film more iconic movie moments but can real life really be like a good rom-com?
With the greatest chance of being cheesy, this novel had me at hello! See what I did there? Haha.
From page one, I was hooked. I immediately fell in love with Sally. She’s a wonderful character who tries her best for the people she loves. I seriously want to visit her cafe.
Harry. Oh Harry! He’s a lovely character. I did want to tell him to tell Isabelle to go away though. The supporting characters are also wonderful.
I loved the plot of this novel and it moved and developed well. Even though this is book seven in the collection, it can be read as a standalone.
There is such a charm and warmth to this book, it felt as though I was curling up in front of my favourite romantic comedy. It could, in fact, be adapted well into a film I think. The backdrop of Brighton is perfect.
As usual, I don’t want to give too much away.
It was a pure delight from start to finish. If you’re looking for a perfect read for Valentine’s Day or just looking for some feel good romance, grab that cup of tea, a bar of chocolate and this book.
Thank you to One More Chapter, Netgalley and Rachel’s Random Resources for the review copy in exchange for an honest review.
I always get so excited when a new Kathryn Freeman book tour lands in my inbox as she is definitely one of my favourite authors. I am over the moon today to be sharing my review if Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner with you all.
When Harry rents a room from Sally, their drunken antics on TikTok end up going viral and puts them onto a winner recreating classic scenes from romcoms. Will their own romcom have a happy ending or will other things get in their way?
Kathryn freeman always manages to create such a spark between the leads in her books and Harry and Sally certainly have a lot of that. I adored both characters and how their relationship developed. Harry’s dry sense of humour really made me chuckle and Sally is such a romantic soul. Both characters are the type that you root for throughout the whole book.
Using romcoms is such a great idea for a plot. I adore them and it was like combining two of my favourite things in this story and getting something amazing!
This is such a cute and adorable romance with tonnes of laugh out loud moments, wonderful characters and a great plot. It’s perfect weekend reading but be warned – you won’t want to put it down!
Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner is the most recent novel by Kathryn Freeman. This book caught my eye immediately because of its name and the book is much of the same. I love rom-coms and this book involved Sally and Harry who have found themselves roommates. Sally is the ultimate romantic and Harry does not believe in love. One drunken night they reenact "the life" from Dirty Dancing on tiktok and get a ton of views. They decide to continue reenacting Sally's favourite rom-com scenes with their own twist. What's even better is that Harry hasn't seen most of these rom-coms. They continue to gain followers, and all of a sudden Harry finds himself wondering if he could be a believer in loving this woman.
These two characters went through a lot. Sally and Harry both had their own ideas of love and throughout the book you started to see them changing their beliefs a little bit. Whether it was Sally, who felt that "bells" must go off to signify love, or Harry who didn't believe love was possible, we saw both people grow to understand that love could be different depending on the person you are loving.
I loved the romantic comedy aspect of this book, where they talked a lot about the quintessential rom-com scenes and was glad to see many of my favourites in there.
If you love an opposites attract, grump/sunshine this book is for you! Thank you to NetGalley and Harpercollins UK for a copy of this book. All opinions are 100% mine.
Eeeeeeek! This book just gave me that feeling, where your skin kind of hums and you just need to keep reading more and more! I inhaled this book, I know it’s still early in the year but this is likely to be my favourite RomCom of the year!
This is a Grumpy/sunshine romance and I just am obsessed with Harry and Sally!! This is my first book by this author and I am going to dive into all her other books this year!
Thank you so much to @rachelsrandomresources and @onemorechapter for a copy of this book via NetGalley!
Perfect reading for romcom fans and so much fun! Freeman deftly sets up this lovely ‘Opposites Attract’ story, showcasing all the romcom favourites, (with the book itself becoming a little nostalgia fest), while setting cynical Harry and romantic Sally up for a gorgeous love story of their own.
I read an advanced copy of Nobody Puts Romcoms In The Corner. Easy cute book with lots of romcom references 😀
Harry and Sally are roommates and get drunk and film themselves trying the lift from Dirty Dancing. It does not go smoothly - Sally knocks Harry over with the first attempt and he reminds her to not come charging at him like a rhino. Sally posts the video on TiKToK and it goes viral. Requests start pouring in to recreate more classic romcom moments.
It’s being release on Feb 27th. Thank you to @kathryn.freeman_author, @netgalley, @onemorechapterhc and @harpercollinsuk for the advanced copy!

I have read a few books that are based off re-enacting romcom movies or involving them in some way. They've all been enjoyable, and Kathryn Freeman's latest novel is no exception. I wasn't actually sure what to expect going into this one, but I found it surprisingly delightful and entertaining. I laughed many times and felt sympathy toward Harry and Sally for different reasons. The steamy scenes were really hot too. (Although I would have preferred them from Sally's perspective as that would have taken the heat up even more.)
Carrie Fisher's character (Marie) said in When Harry Met Sally, "Tell me I'll never have to be out there again." I totally know how she feels. Dating in the era of social media seems so much harder and that definitely comes into play in this novel too. I've been with my husband for a total of 21 years (starting from when we first met in early February of 2002) and I can't say I have any personal experience navigating the 2020's dating scene. However, I've heard about it from my friends and it doesn't sound pretty. On the other hand, I do vicariously enjoy the early stages of dating through reading books like this. And Kathryn Freeman supplied that experience really well!
What didn't work so well for me was the idea that they could get so much interest in a TikTok about re-enacting a romcom scene. There are so many TikToks being posted all the time that I feel like this could just get lost in the shuffle. So that just seemed far-fetched. I get why it happened this way for the book and what its purpose was, but I wish they had a different way of going viral with these romcom scenes. Like the fails could have been even more embarrassing and attention grabbing. Maybe I'm just not as much of a TikTok person and just don't get the appeal. I also felt like Sally put so much pressure on having this ideal love story play out in her real life that she got too introspective about it after a while.
Overall, it was a charming story and I had a fun time reading it. This novel would definitely earn a "romcommunism" award from Ted Lasso!
Movie casting suggestions:
Sally: Imogen Poots
Harry: Tom Hopper
Amy: Nell Tiger Free
Vince: Olly Alexander
Kitty: Jessica Henwick
Adam: Jack Lowden
Isabelle: Katy Louise Saunders
This was such fun, an utterly silly concept of the viral video and reason for Harry and Sally to share their time together but it provides such humour and lightheatedness to it that it makes for an enjoyable read. The supporting characters were the only darkness to this story and the ex girlfriend of Harry's and Sally's sister brought the book down a little but even the sister eventually pulled through in the end just not a character I particularly enjoyed.
Harry and Sally are thrust together after Harry discovers his girlfriend is cheating on him, and he needs a place to crash. Sally has a spare room and could do with the extra money, and Harry is the first candidate who doesn't look like he'd sneak into her room and watch her as she sleeps. So she's willing to look past his moody demeanor and lack of interest in her favourite genre of film, rom coms.
The flirting starts almost immediately and it doesn't take long before Harry wants to give one of the most classic romcom scenes a go himself. The Dirty Dancing lift. Sally uploads the video to tiktok, and it goes viral, and Sally sees a money making opportunity. This book is a true delight for any romcom fan. Harry and Sally recreate all of the most iconic scenes. It was fun to read and also fun to predict what scenes they might do.
I loved both Harry and Sally. Sally is your typical sunshine character. She believes in true love, in finding The One. Harry is decidedly less romantic. His cheating ex and divorcing parents probably have something to do with that.
The side characters are less endearing. It mostly felt like they were there to cause tension between Harry and Sally, and also to make them look good. They were awful and I didn't feel like any of the awful things they did were ever resolved.
I would really only recommend this romance to people who are fans of the cliche's. This was fun to read, with really sweet moments between the two love interests, but it didn't do anything I hadn't read before. But if you're looking for more of what you know you love, forced proximity and grumpy meets sunshine, this is so worth picking up.
I have to admit I have a huge soft spot for romcoms and Sleepless in Seattle is one of my all time favourites. If like me, you love a little romance Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner by Kathryn Freeman is the perfect read for you.
Harry and Sally were destined to get together with names like those weren’t they? The chemistry between them was sizzling from the very beginning and I loved seeing this romance between them build and grow.
The trip down romcom memory lane was wonderful and I loved how much fun they had recreating those special moments that we all know and love.
With many laughs and also a few tears, Kathryn Freeman has written a beautiful love story which will stay with me.
If you are a lover of Romantic Comedy movies, this is the book for you. The heroine and her friends love romcoms and frequently watch them and refer to them. Sally is a coffee shop owner and is in need of a flatmate to pay off some bills and Harry needs a place to stay because his ex-girlfriend refuses to believe they are over (after her cheating) and won’t leave his house. So yes, when Harry meets Sally he decides she’s a little strange but he can deal with her short-term. Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner was filled with romantic comedy scene reenactments, a grumpy man who doesn’t believe in love living with a woman who wants the whole package; love, marriage, and family. Filled with humor, heat, and hilarious dialog, I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
One night after a few too many drinks Sally convinces her flatmate Harry to try “the lift” from Dirty Dancing and he agrees; it doesn’t quite go as planned and when she uploads it to TikTok it goes a bit viral prompting Sally to convince Harry to reenact more romcom scenes in hopes they get some sponsors and earn some cash for them both.
I enjoyed this story and really like Harry and felt like his life was in turmoil. His parents are planning on divorcing but until they do they are living in their home and have divided up the house and use Harry as a go between. His parents are pretty horrible people not only to each other but to Harry as well. He was way nicer than I would have been and that’s his problem. Harry is a nice guy and I love nice guy heroes, but Harry was a pushover which made him not all that attractive to me. His ex-girlfriend still living in his house and refusing to leave; file paperwork to evict her and get her out especially considering she was paying NO rent. WTH? I felt Harry had good reason to not believe in love, he had no experience with it and the one time he tried living with someone she cheated on him. I loved his relationship with his friends and co-workers and was glad he had good friends in his corner to help him through the tough times. I loved seeing Harry grow and change throughout this story.
Sally’s character was developed really well; she’s had some strife in her life and had to grow up fairly quickly when her parents passed away. Her friends are great people who have her back always and her sister was a bit of a spoiled brat for a good portion of this book and Sally was a pushover when it came to her. Sally believes in love which is why she loves romcoms so much; her parents set the example of a good and loving relationship and it is something she has always wanted. My problem with Sally was that she was stuck on that and refused to even give a little on her stance or to see Harry’s side even after meeting his mother. Her character was stagnant which was a bit disappointing.
As Sally and Harry do more reenactments they grow closer and there is a spark between them and they end up involved “for as long as it lasts.” Problem is Harry told her he didn’t believe in love and Sally still got involved with him when she wants the whole package and when things get a bit rough she just shuts down.
The cover and synopsis of this book lead the reader to believe this is going to be a light and fluffy story but in all honesty there was a lot of heaviness to this book. The heaviness was balanced with some fun moments, but just a bit of warning that it isn’t all fun and games.
Nobody Puts RomComs in the Corner was interesting, quirky, and a bit of fun, but there were loads of emotional moments as well. Overall, a good read for a debut novel.
I wouldn't say I had high expectations here but I did think I would enjoy it more than I did.
The concept sounded fun, cute and cheesy.
While I did think it was all of those things at times. I also found I wasn't all that invested in the couple as a couple. I was more interested in the scenes they were recreating
The writing felt a little slow or maybe it felt that way since I struggled to stay focused on the book at times.
I didn't fully enjoy the characters but didn't dislike them either.

Blurb
Sally is a classic romantic and Harry is a classic cynic, but when a drunken bet leads the new flatmates to (badly) recreate ‘the lift’ from Dirty Dancing, and the video goes viral (#EpicRomcomReenactmentFailure), they both realise there’s potential financial benefit in blundering their way through the romcom lexicon for their suddenly vast social media following.
Now, as Harry and Sally bring major romcom moments to new life – including recreating that classic diner scene – their faking it turns to making…out and suddenly they’re living a real life romcom of their own! But like all the greatest love stories, the road to happily ever after is paved with unexpected challenges for this hero and heroine…
My Opinion
This was a nice entertaining read. Harry needs somewhere to live when his ex refuses to move out, he ends up lodging with Sally. Sally and Harry re-enact some scenes from famous movies on TikTok - so no doubt your favourites will be included. Sally and Harry are great characters that I loved. This will appeal to fans of romcoms and will leave you giggling.
Rating: 4/5
This book was super super super charming. Harry says he doesn't believe in romcoms. He's a blunt, burly builder who moves in with a sweet as candy owner of a cafe. All her furniture is pink and soft. They seem like opposites, but opposites are the steamiest. There's such delightful banter between these two. What was wonderfully surprising is how deeply Freeman dives into romcom stereotypes and scenes. I loved the way she really broke them down, and used them to help the characters navigate their complicated and real reasons for believing in love or not. It would actually be a thrill if this book was made into a romcom. I loved it. I'd watch it. I would read it again!
Thank you, NetGalley, for the digital ARC of this book.
I thought this was a very fun read. It reminded me a bit of Beth O'Leary, who is one of my recent faves. I liked the humor, the characters, and the writing and I know several patrons off the top of my head that will also really enjoy it, so we will be purchasing several copies.
A hilarious romcom story! The characters are awesome! It is just a very enjoyable read.
When Harry rents a room from Sally, all the fun starts. Sally loves watching romcom movies with her friends - an odd group of people that are so loveable. Harry doesn't want anything to do with the movies. However, after a few drinks one night, they end up doing "the lift" from Dirty Dancing -- Sally catches it on video and decides to post to social media. They're an instant hit as fans ask them to continue - so they work their way through romcoms re-enacting their famous scenes. It's a fun book, but there are serious undercurrents in the story. It's well crafted!
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for a digital, temporary ARC in return for my review.
