I received this from netgalley in exchange for a review.
This was a cute and fun read. I’m definitely not up-to-date on seeing all of the romcoms that are mentioned in the book, but Sally and Harry definitely made me want to watch them.
Sally is a lover of romcoms and love and hope and all good things, Harry however doesn’t believe in any of that (with parents like his, I’m not surprised). I liked the tiktok plot device that is used to bring them closer, I was skeptical about it, but ended up enjoying seeing what they would do.
I also enjoyed that their relationship helped Sally’s relationship with her own sister, and thought that was a good sub-plot.
Definitely a fun quick read.
Thank you to NetGalley & One More Chapter for the advanced e-book copy.
I’d like to start off by saying, I requested this book simply because I love rom-coms and the cover of this book really caught my attention. But sadly, I couldn’t get through the book, the banter and it being in 3rd person was hard for me to get through. So, unfortunately I did have to DNF it. Overall, the idea of this book is lovely and I’m sure those who love rom-coms will absolutely enjoy this read.
2.5/5
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of Nobody Puts Romcoms in The Corner by Kathryn Freeman. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK for this ARC.
Nobody Puts Romcoms In The Corner was a fun and entertaining take on the traditional romantic comedy genre. I was totally on board for 90% of the story. The last few chapters, when Beth and Harry's relationship hit a snag, were rough. It felt like everyone was being too literal and didn't have the organic charm of the rest of the story. I think that with age, the cliche breakup before the final act just isn't working for me anymore and this one didn't work, but the rest of the story was a joy to read. I give this book 4/5 stars and would happily read this author's next novel.
This book was cute. The concept and the way it was carried out were cute, and a little bit too believable if I want to be honest. The graphic sex was not something I wanted to read, and that could have been included in a content warning.
I don't think I've laughed this hard in such a long time. Nobody Puts Romcoms In The Corner had me beyond giddy... It's so wonderfully written, Harry and Sally have the best banter and chemistry, and it just all around gave me the feel goods
I enjoyed this book. I liked how the author brought in a current app (TikTok) to give the characters a better background. I thought it was cute that the main characters were named Harry and Sally, like the romcom. The concept of recreating iconic romcom scenes was really interesting. I didn't like much else though. I thought the pacing was a little off and I wasn't a fan of many of the since characters, apart from Vince.
This was so cute and fun.
Sally's infectious enthusiasm is adorable, together with Harry's stoicism, it makes for a fun romcom read.
Vince and Kitty are fantastic friends, even when being abrasive.
Amy...I'm glad she came around a little. An apology would have been good.
Isabelle and Harry's parents, especially his mother, served as adequate irritants.
I received a copy via netgalley. All opinions are my own.
I loved this book and read it in just under 24 hours! Sally is the hopeless romantic who is waiting for The One and the bells that signal love, but so far it hasn’t happened. Then she meets Harry. The story from here just gets better and better.
The drunken reenactment of the lift from Dirty Dancing is laugh out loud funny and the other scenes from then on are superb, each better than the last and then some. I love the straight talking Harry, he just doesn’t care and has no filter which to start with doesn’t warm Sally to him and Kitty, her friend, just plain hates him. Vince sees through this though, and they soon see the better side - that he’s willing to carry out these silly scenes to keep Sally happy which is all he wants.
A typically lovely, laugh out loud, serious when it needs to be, steamy in places romcom that I recommend to everyone.
This is one any romcom movie lover needs to read! The story is centered on two housemates who unexpectedly go viral on TikTok when they recreate the iconic lift from Dirty Dancing. As they decide to film more scenes from other romcoms, they can’t help falling in love despite how different they are. Grumpy/sunshine trope, anyone?!?
This is cheesy and cute and I loved it. As it comes out in less than a week, get this in your hands for Valentine’s Day!

this book is so cute I couldn’t help but smile all the time while I was reading 💖
my romcom lover heart is so happy with all the movie references 🤌🏻 I just adored this book and I can’t believe this is my first Kathryn Freeman book because now I have to read them all.
Nobody Puts Romcoms In The Corner is just the perfect book to read if you want to be in a good mood and if want that nostalgia of romcom movies 🫶🏻 it was cute, it was swoon worthy and a little bit cheesy (like all the best romcoms). Harry and Sally (I KNOW!!) had the best chemistry and they are very likeable.
I also loved the other characters in the book and I can totally see a series potencial here 🤭
if you love romcoms, this book is totally for you 💖
thank you NetGalley for the advanced reader copy of this novel 🫶🏻
Thank you NetGalley and Harper Collins UK for the eARC.
I requested this based on the cover and title. I didn’t read the synopsis. I should have. Two stars bc that was enough pull for a request.
I am not a fan of characters named Sally. Worked with an awful Sally once and now when I hear/ read the name, that’s who I picture and for a romance- that is just gross af in my mind. I also cannot stand the one quotation dialogue. It looked like apostrophes gone wild and was messing with my eyes and mind.
Nothing gripped me enough to complete this novel.
Please read and form your own opinions.
4.75 stars
I loved this!! So cute and funny can't remember the last book which had me laughing and knowing it was going to be a great book from the prologue alone!!
So many good and iconic rom-com moments got recreated and had their own spin on it which was so fun!!
The scene where they had their first kiss...it was so freaking cute I was screaming crying throwing up!!! The chemistry is off the charts
I'm unwell over the fact that the MMC wanted to practice kissing like if that doesnt tell you that he's head over heals for her idk what does
Only reason why it's not a 5 star was due to the FMC bringing up the fact that she thought he wasn't the one constantly for the first 50% of the book, it got annoying very quick
- roommates / forced proximity
- recreating iconic rom-com moments
- shes a sucker for rom-coms x hes doesn't believe in love
these two are soooo annoying. could not stand harry, he never took any time to think about anything, and sally was too naive
To be completely honest, I have no idea what possessed me to request this ARC, but I'm... so glad I did.
Listen. The plot synopsis promises TikToks, recreating famous romcom scenes and a spice rating of two red pepper emojis, which is fine, but not something I'd normally reach for. Grumpy-sunshine I can get behind and that was pretty much it.
I was not prepared to feel this many things at once. A book that makes me feel angry for the MC right at the start is cheating because my interest immediately skyrockets and I need to see it resolved. Paired with the dialogue, I was hooked.
Then there was a major dip when the whole TikTok thing started and it was hard to believe the video they made, as it was, gained so much traction, but then again I'd definitely not be the target audience for their whole shtick, so who knows.
My interest and liking of this book pingponged so much while reading I'm having an extremely hard time putting my thoughts down. I loved the banter, but then it would get cringy, and then pick up again. The smut was both questionable and amazing. Sally would be my personal nightmare to text with. Harry is an angel considering all he went through and I really appreciated it. I wanted to physically fight multiple characters and shake both Sally and Harry multiple times. I heavily related to both of them in aspects that hit a bit too close to home.
There was depth I didn't expect and most importantly, it kept me coming back to read more and I have to admit the whole TikTok thing drove the plot to interesting places and conversations and kept things going where there would usually be a lull. I really can't be mad, it was an overall fun time.
Thank you to One More Chapter and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
A very cute book! The characters were fun together, but it was a whirlwind romance! They fell in love fast and I'm not a fan of the third act breakup...always a bummer and a bit forced. It was a quick read and had lots of sweet moments!
Thank you NetGalley and Kathryn Freeman!
Rom com fans are naturally going to leap at the chance to read this. The rom com references were generous throughout and there’s plenty of movie nostalgia to be had, which I appreciated.
This was surprisingly sexy & the chemistry between the mains was good. I think I was a bit disappointed by the main conflict that was meant to drive the will-they-won’t-they? of the romance. I just didn’t think it was a strong enough reason to drive the wedge between the couple & I probably would have enjoyed a touch more drama.
Overall though, an enjoyable light romance and an interesting take on the grumpy/sunshine trope.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers of Nobody Puts Romcoms In The Corner for the advanced readers copy.

Who doesn’t love a good RomCom? Put a Romcom lover and a grumpy man into a book and viola you get Freeman’s book!
Sally needs money and Harry needs a place to stay what a perfect combination! Sally’s need for money results in her getting Harry to star in TikTok videos recreating iconic RomCom scenes.
I. Love. The. Concept. I could see this actually happening on TikTok and imagine followers being so involved wanting to see more scenes, wanting to know about the true relationship behind the people on their screen.
Freeman excels at having two characters start the book with such defined personalities, that have their own important flaws, then overtime slowly transform. Each character’s background allowed for them to gradually understand their flaws and need for change.
The whole book has you rooting for Sally and Harry to be a swoon worthy romcom couple - even if some friends have their doubts!
Overall, this is a lighthearted romcom read with two characters you want the best for.
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.
I really enjoyed this! The romcom references were pretty strong (but given the title not unexpected), but the re-enactments on tiktok were very funny. Quality comedy. It reminded me of Penny Reid’s Ten Trends To Seduce Your Best Friend, but with more com. There is a huge amount of content for romcom fans to love, and it had decent steam to plot ratio.
I struggled with the third act breakup, I thought the prompt for it played too much into the “evil other woman” trope. It’s a personal preference, but I don’t like scenes bringing other women down in my reads.
I read it all in one sitting and was gripped!
In short: this book does exactly what it says on the box for a sweet and swoony romance
Received an ARC in return for an unbiased review!
I love a romcom, which I think is why this disappointed me a little. Harry (grumpy) is Sally (sunshine)‘s lodger, and a video of the two of them trying to do the Dirty Dancing lift goes viral. Both of them keen to make a bit of extra cash, they go on to make more romcom style videos, and end up falling for each other.
It’s a 3.5 from me for a few reasons:
- I can’t understand why the rest of their videos went viral
- the characters seemed very naive for a pair of 30 year olds
- the issues between the two of them seemed a bit too contrived, and I didn’t really understand what the problem was.
The characters were enjoyable enough, and the book was definitely readable, but I think the hype probably made this a bit disappointing for me.
Sally and Harry are roommates. She loves rom-coms and he hates them. After a few too many drinks one night, they decide to re-enact the ultimate scene from the ultimate rom-com: the lift from Dirty Dancing. And not just re-enact it, but post their attempt to TIk Tok.
What a fun, refreshing story for this time of year (right before Valentine’s Day). This story uses all the cutesy rom-com favorites and was just fun. Thank you to Netgalley, Kathryn Freeman and the publisher for the ARC! This will be shared to my instagram blog in the near future!
