This book is a classic romcom. It has all the feel good elements we know and love with lots of great references to romcom movies throughout. Sally is a big fan of romcoms whilst Harry is definitely not. When they end up recreating the infamous dirty dancing lift and it goes viral on TikTok they begin reenacting various other classic romcom scenes and inevitably develop feelings for each other. Their relationship was sweet with some cute scenes and funny banter. Fans of romcoms will enjoy this easy read

‘Sally is a classic romantic and Harry is a classic cynic, but when a drunken bet leads the new flatmates to (badly) recreate ‘the lift’ from Dirty Dancing, and the video goes viral (#EpicRomcomReenactmentFailure), they both realise there’s potential financial benefit in blundering their way through the romcom lexicon for their suddenly vast social media following.’
This book really is the epitome of a romcom novel, it’s so cute and wholesome. I loved the movie references the lighthearted nature of the writing.
I liked that Sally wasn’t portrayed like most romance books portray their main character, she was quirky and a true romantic which was a great contrast to Harry and his grumpy persona.
It was quite cheesy and cliche but I think if this doesn’t bother you or you’re looking for an uplifting, cheery read, then this is definitely one to add to your list.
Thanks to Net Galley, HarperCollins and Kathryn Freeman for this advanced copy.
This is the story of Harry and Sally, thrown together, because Sally needed a tenant and Harry needed a place to live until he got his ex out of his house. Sally is the ultimate romantic and Harry has no belief in love. I loved this book!! I couldn't help but to love Harry and Sally. The author did a great job of developing the characters. Harry's childhood has left him not knowing or understanding what love is. Sally, although she has been through her share of heartbreak, is hopeful that she will find her one true love. I loved how their relationship evolved from just having fun to some real feelings. Oh the angst!! I was brought to tears at moments. The ending was beautiful. This has been my favorite read of the new year so far!
I love a good rom-com, but this one bordered on too cheesy and cliche for me. Sally and Harry didn't have the "spark" and I felt like she was a little too "head in the clouds" for my taste. Some definite cute scenes, funny banter, and sweet dialogue. Not one I would re-read, but I'm not mad about the initial reading :)

Fun romcom (I mean, duh) about Harry and Sally. Sally believes in love and happily ever afters. Harry, not so much. After a few months of being roommates, they start remaking romcom scenes on TikTok, hoping to make a bit of money. There are some laughs but some heavier scenes as well. Good secondary characters of supportive friends. Lots of fun romcom references throughout.
Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review. Watch for Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner to come out February 25, 2023.
I adored this book. I can't believe this is the first book by Kathryn Freeman I have read. I loved every romantic minute of it. Harry and Sally (yes you read that right) could not have been more swoonworthy. I loved Sally's quirkiness to Harry's blunt honesty. This is opposites attract, close proximity, grumpy/sunshine gold. As Sally would say this book gave me the 'Fuzzies' with a capital 'F'. Even with all the references to famous romantic comedies and reenactments of famous scenes I did not find it cheesy or childish. It was delightful and funny. If you are looking for a feel good hopeful, well written romance with fun characters look no further.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins publishers for allowing me to access an ARC of "Nobody puts Romcoms in a Corner" by Kathryn Freeman in exchange for my unbiased review. It was an absolute pleasure to read this novel and I adored it.
When I saw this title available on NetGalley I requested a copy and randomly got selected for this read. The premise that a pair of flatmates who couldn't be more opposite end up going viral on TikTok after recreating a scene from Dirty Dancing had me intrigued.
Then the story unfolded as they realized they were a hit sensation and people began living vicariously through their hilarious, awkward, and steamy reenactments. And the build up, the slow burn to the friends with benefits was done so well and then what proceeded was a glorious amount of angst and miscommunication.
The chemistry between Harry and Sally is very palpable and they work so well together both as platonic flatmates as and as they begin to explore more as well. He stands up for her when her sister tries to take advantage of her and she sticks up for him and helps him realize that his parents flaws and inability to love him are not his fault.
This was a delightful romcom in the truest sense of romcom and while it did feel a bit clunky and rushed at times, overall it was a fun and pleasant reading experience.
Thanks to NetGalley, HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter, and Kathryn Freeman for the ARC for a review.
This book was extremely adorable! I loved how the relationship between the characters was built and I thoroughly enjoyed their story! I highly recommend this book for everyone who loves romcoms.
Nobody Puts Romcoms in The Corner was the most adorable book I’ve read in ages. As with all romcoms, you know how the story will end, yet it’s worth the journey. I loved all of the winks to popular movies from the genre.
Harry and Sally become roommates who start reenacting pinnacle scenes from romcoms for social media for extra income. Their feelings for each other slowly build into a romcom story of their own. Dialogue and character development were fantastic.
Highly recommended! The only thing I didn’t like about this book was finishing it.
Thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for access to a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a lovely, fun, fresh ode to romcoms that I thoroughly enjoyed. This nailed the banter, the tension, the comedic bits, the romance, everything. This novel follows Harry and Sally who have recently become roommates after Harry finds himself in a tough spot. After a drunken attempt to recreate the iconic lift scene from Dirty Dancing goes viral on social media, they decide to continue recreating iconic romcom scenes for an extra bit of money. The more time they spend together, the more they realize that perhaps they could be living in their own romantic comedy, if they can overcome the challenges they’re facing, of course.
The characters felt fully realized and I was immersed in them, I liked that we didn’t see a stereotypical “teeny tiny short so small” female MC. I liked the grumpy x sunshine dynamic because he, Harry, was grumpy without being blatantly rude to Sally all for the trope, he just didn’t enjoy romcoms and was a bit cynical because of his upbringing and past experiences. Sally was a delightful hopeless romantic. They each had their own struggles and hurdles to overcome, Sally dealing with her troubled younger sister and Harry dealing with his obnoxious ex girlfriend and his divorcing parents, that made them people outside their relationship with one another. I also appreciated how they were friends for a few months of living together before we see them develop a romantic relationship. It is so important to be friends with your partner, not just in lust with them. I also thought social media was incorporated in a really organic way that didn’t feel overtly cringe or uncomfortable to read, as novels with social media often do.
I think my only gripe is that Kitty did not feel like a great friend to Sally at times. I understand being protective over people you love, but racing to say “I told you so” when your friend gets hurt by something and actively rooting against their relationship with another person who has not proven to be a bad person by any means does not a good friend make, in my opinion. I feel like she didn’t give Harry any sort of room for growth or grace or a fair chance throughout the entire novel up until the very last few pages where we see him and Sally get back together. She really irked me and personally I would not want a friend like that in my own corner.
Regardless, I devoured this title and would definitely pick up more books from this author in the future, I thought it was well-written on top of everything I have already said. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book is so good! If you love romcoms then you will love this book.. It is so cute and sweet. I also love the cover!
I want to start off by saying: I adored absolutely everything about this from beginning to end.
The title is cheesy: fact. The book follows rom com's pretty thoroughly, and the main character is borderline obsessed with them: fact. The main leads are NAMED after a rom com: also fact.
But beyond all that: this book is just the dual POV, friends-with-benefits to more, sexy but understated gem you need to kick off 2023. The driving force to pull the characters apart was believable, the side-plots were minimal but drove some depth to the story, and the 'why' behind each character was something I could actually see playing out between men and women.
Pick this up: you won't regret it. I'm off to pick up all other Kathryn Freeman books!
I got this as an ARC. I’m not a fan of it. The chemistry between them was great and so the attraction made perfect sense. Other than that, I think the book really missed.
Harry’s character of the “grump” wasn’t fully fleshed out because the only grumpy thing was that he didn’t like romcoms. otherwise he was actually a nice guy, even to his horrible ex and toxic parents. It was silly that he thought he couldn’t do boyfriend stuff for Sally and then did exactly that. you wanna comfort her when she’s crying? boyfriend shit. you wanna protect against her manipulative sister? boyfriend shit. you wanna plan a fancy date for her? boyfriend shit. i don’t understand how she doesn’t see that this is his way of showing love, especially after all the romcoms that depict this exact thing. of course this eventually makes sense because he’s never seen an actual relationship so he doesn’t even know he’s doing boyfriend shit (but again therapy). that was tied together really well in the ending.
Sally’s character was well-established since we saw a good balance between her sunshine/grump emotions. her friends pissed me off when they didn’t try to help her with her sister and then got mad at harry for finally doing something about it? so yeah her friends ruined her character.
the whole book didn’t flow together well and it felt choppy as they moved from each romcom skit to the next. it was very clearly, skit/romance, harry’s problem, sally’s problem, then repeat. some of the movie references just didn’t seem to work well (like how are you putting Pretty Woman references in the same book with TATBILB and After references? it seems like mixed audiences but that’s probably just to me). the ending ultimately saved this book when the conflict happened and every issue was finally addressed.
P.S. the spice scenes are not it. it’s like a mix of fade-to-black and a detailed telling. pick a lane!
Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner by Kathryn Freeman is a fun novel that has Harry and Sally, roommates with an attraction to each other, acting out classic romcom scenes for social media. Their followers think something is going on between them, but is it? Or will it? Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for an ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

Don’t be fooled by the cutesy cover. 😉 The novel has some steam, and I liked it! This is a fun, light-hearted and easy-to-read book. I loved Harry’s grumpy character, and I loved Sally’s kind and quirky personality. The Ghost movie TikTok scene gave me goosebumps. It might be my the most favorite scene (out of many) in this novel. 🙂 Anybody who loves romantic movies will love this book.
This’s the first book I read by Kathryn Freeman and I am looking forward to reading more of your books. 💖

Nobody Puts Rom Coms in the Corner

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Harry begins living with, and renting a room from Sally because his ex refuses to move out of his home. Harry quickly learns that Sally, is a hopeless romantic and rom com movie LOVER! Harry......not so much. He no longer believes in love, due to his parents divorce and a recent failed relationship of his own.
One night, a pitcher of margaritas, leads to Harry and Sally recreating the iconic Dirty Dancing lift. After it goes viral on tik tok, they realize they could benefit from this sudden internet fame! Harry and Sally continue recreating rom com movie moments and posting them online which results in sponsorships and extra income. However, they didnt expect the videos to produce romantic feelings for each other...but a relationship is off the table for Harry. A life with love is never something he visioned for himself and he isn't sure he can love someone long term. Sally however does want that lifetime love, so why continue something that you know isn't going to last? Looks like Harry has to move out...and Sally needs to move on.
Ok this was cute but not a stand out. I was instantly drawn to this ARC because HELLO DIRTY DANCING IS THE BEST MOVIE EVER MADE. 😊 The rom com moments were adorable and loved all the references!
But, this was one of those books that for some reason, just couldn't keep my interest. I would find myself forgetting what I read and having to reread.
I also didn't feel the chemistry between Sally and Harry like I hoped.
Overall- it was ok. Not bad but not memorable for me! I still am very thankful to @netgalley and @harpercollinsuk For the chance to read this one early.

LOVED this book!! It was funny yet romantic, with an added dose of heartbreak along the way. Harry and Sally are both great characters.
This book had a fresh, fun plot with plenty of romcom movie references sprinkled throughout. The scene with THE Lift had me laughing out loud.
That being said, there were quite a few parts that didn’t work for me. Number one being the two month time jump at the beginning of the story. I feel like we needed that two months to introduce the relationship of Sally and Harry.
Secondly, for a romcom, I felt this book had very few funny moments. The lift was really the only funny part for me. While a romcom is definitely more romance based than comedy, I do feel like it needed more wit.
Thirdly, omg. Kitty. Just no. I hated her character so much and CRINGED when it said that Harry physically jumped because she walked toward him 🤦🏻♀️ In my opinion, she had no redeeming qualities. Even if she was trying to “protect” her friend, she was just miserable.
The idea of this plot was so cute and fresh, I feel like it could be much better if reworked, but as is I’d have to give it 3 stars.
I was so excited by the title and it didn’t let me down. This book is packed full of romcom references! I love books that reference my favorite movies and this sure has almost all of them in there. I didn’t like the spice…I felt there was a bit too much, as I usually do with these types of books, and it’s unnecessary. Overall it left me smiling and wanting to curl up on the couch watching a sweet movie, so I recommend!
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for a review and opinions are my own.
A romcom ABOUT romcoms!? Sign me up! Nobody Puts Romcoms In The Corner was a cute, quick read from Kathryn Freeman. While there were a few tidbits here and there that were a little off-putting, it was pretty easy to breeze through and an overall enjoyable read. Will definitely read more from Freeman in the future!
