Loved it.
A really fun read!
The following of two housemates recreating famous romantic comedy moments whilst discovering their relationships with 'what is love?'
Had me giggling and smiling throughout. A perfect pick me up or holiday read.
Overall this was a cute story! When Harry met Sally (literally) recreating iconic romcom scenes in the tiktok Era. There were the cheesy moments and the butterfly moments, and so many romcom references!!
There were a few things I didn't love.... the friends group. They were SO present but present in a way that it felt like the reader was walking in to season 5 of a show with no background. Some books will have a friend group that completely pulls you in, I feel like the story would have been so much more if it had. The chemistry between Harry and Sally, or lack there of? It felt like their romance developed more out of proximity than attraction. Overall the story lacked the depth that really embraces you into the story, it just felt like something was missing for the majority of the plot. And I really wish there had been an epilogue. Don't get me wrong. That grand gesture though was straight out of a romcom if I ever saw one but I wanted more after the HEA!
I don't think the title could be any more perfect. Be ready to curate an ultimate romcom playlist, and curl up with all the movie references and a margarita this cute, quick read!
Thank you Netgalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for the ARC in exchange for my review!
This book was fun and sweet. I liked the concept being really an ode to rom-coms. But I also felt like maybe it was a bit TOO heavy handed at times. It got a bit distracting and cheesy.
The second book I've read from this author, fast becoming an auto-buy for me. This book was a perfect romance, made with some of my favourite tropes
You know that the majority of the books I review are romance so you won’t be surprised that I have accepted to join this tour to review Kathryn’s new book “Nobody puts romcoms in the corner”. Because, that is true, nobody is putting them in the corner.
We are following Harry and Sally throughout their life and their possible relationship (this depends if they feel fuzzies and hear the bells!). They start off by being roommates and the differences could not be more. On one hand, we have Sally who loves pink and all that girly stuff (nothing wrong with this). On other hand, we have Harry who is blunt and is not a fan of pink, at all. So when one drunk night leads them to do TikTok and reenact the famous scene of ‘Dirty Dancing’, what is bound to happen?! Well, I won’t be spilling the beans, it is on you to read the book and see for yourself.
Sally might be someone that we think is all girly and is in her head regarding romcoms, but deep down she is a smart and courageous woman who has gone through a lot. She quickly changes your opinion of her. Just like Harry; if you think that he is only this blunt guy, who has no idea about love, get ready to get your opinion changed.
This book is perfect for fans of Harry Met Sally, Pretty Woman, The Notebook or anyone who loves romcoms. It will warm up your heart and soul and will make you wish to feel the fuzzies. Or have someone that will show you their love through actions.
I love the title, I love the tropes, this was a fun book to read!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Nobody Puts Romcoms In The Corner is a standalone rom-com written by Kathryn Freeman.
Tropes:
✔️ grumpy-sunshine
✔️ forced proximity / roommates
I really loved the title, cover and premise of this story. It automatically conjured images of people doing great dance moves, practicing lifts and generally having a good time. Asking for an ARC of it was a no brainer.
Sally loves rom-coms, believes in love and hopes that one day she’ll find her soulmate with whom she’ll have her own HEA.
Harry is a cynical, cantankerous divorcee who is can’t get his cheating ex-wife out of their home, has trouble dealing with his parents’ loveless marriage and doesn’t believe in love all around, but finds it in himself (after enough liquid courage) to re-create Dirty Dancing’s iconic “lift” scene with Sally. The video goes viral and Sally convinces Harry to make more videos in the hopes to get sponsors.
I really appreciated the movie nostalgia, including the “When Harry Met Sally” names. I also enjoyed the couple’s banter and chemistry as well as watching Harry get confused over his growing feelings towards Sally.
Overall this was an ok, lighthearted read for me.
Meet Harry and Sally. Sally is the poster child romantic. Happily ever after isn't just a fairytale ending to her...it's a life goal! Harry is the polar opposite. His parents were terrible role models which turned him off from believing love is actually a thing. They become roommates after Harry's ex-girlfriend refuses to leave his house and causes him to have to find another place to live. Harry rents a room from Sally who is also short on cash. Cue the love/hate roommate banter and revel in the 90s romcom flashback as they attempt to reenact iconic scenes from movies like Dirty Dancing, Ghost, Never Been Kissed, When Harry Met Sally and more!
This book had me at Rom Coms and Dirty Dancing! And kept me with hilarious romcom recreations, witty banter, and character with depth. It was hard not to feel for both Harry and Sally, but for different reasons. Sally and her unrealistic expectations for love and Harry with his hardened heart.
This story was funny and heartwarming, an opposites attract and slightly nostalgic read. I found myself looking up some of the less familiar scenes on YouTube, and reenjoying the familiar ones.
I thought this book was really cute. I loved both of the main characters and thought they were very likable. If you love romance movies, then this is the book for you! Filled with so many nostalgic movie references - this one is so fun!
📖 𝙍𝙚𝙖𝙙 𝙞𝙛 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙚𝙣𝙟𝙤𝙮:

I'm usually not a big fan of British romances BUT I requested this one because I love love love rom coms. And I work in social media, so the combo of rom coms and TikTok was super fun to read. I liked both of the main characters and the grumpy / sunshine romance. If you are a fan of rom coms, I'd recommend this one. Nobody Puts Romcoms In the Corner is a sweet and nostalgic story.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy. All opinions are my own.
This is so cute! Such a fun read. I loved all the romance/romcom references. Plus, it has some of my favorite tropes: grumpy/sunshine & roommates to lovers.
this was a lot of fun to read. I felt so badly for the MC, Sally, with the hot and hunky room mate that doesn't believe in love. The notion of recreating famous scenes in top-notch romcom movies is great, but made even more enjoyable when they have mishaps ! The antics progress, the relationship becomes steamy, and it's up to the two MC to figure out if they can make it work. I very much enjoyed this book, and would like more in a series , because the side characters were so entertaining, as well.
One of those books where I’m glad to have a kindle rather than a real copy, I must admit that I wasn’t taken with the cover or the title particularly - but this novel is full of heart, full of brilliant characters and fantastic moments. Really well written too.
Recommended.
Ah such a cute lil romance! A novel that takes all the best parts from some of the most classic romance/comdedy movies is perfect for anyone wanting a fast-paced, gushy, happily ever after.
This follows your classic trope of close proximity and if you're into that this one is for you.
DNF @20%. I really tried to like this book, but the storyline and characters weren't engaging me at all.
And when I tell you I tried, I trieddddd. If I'm going to DNF a book, I usually do so early--like within the first day of reading it. This one took at least 3 days for me to decide I wasn't going to like it and it wasn't worth my time.
Was there anything inherently wrong with this book? No. That's probably why I waited so long to DNF. I overall thought the premise and characters were interesting, but that initial interest wasn't enough to keep me going.
Basically, these characters were boring. I knew nothing deep about the male mc 20% in. I had no idea why he would be attracted to the female mc other than she has blonde curly hair and blue eyes. What is it about her personality that attracted him to her?? Absolutely nothing 20% in because he would only comment on her looks or how annoying he found her.
Then we get to the premise. I thought it would be cute for him to watch romcoms with her IF WE ACTUALLY EVER SAW THAT ON THE PAGE. They say they're going to and then it cuts away. Whyyy?? I wanted to read his reactions to some of the iconic moments.
My biggest annoyance with this book from what I read was the idea that one viral video would convince two grown adults they should continue making videos to make money. Like....TikTok doesn't work that way for most people. One viral video does not a career make. I couldn't suspend my disbelief that their plan would work in order to enjoy it.
All in all, I found the writing boring.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for sending me an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
"You told me once that you know real life isn't like a romcom, but I'm starting to seriously doubt that."
Of course, the perfect way to start a new season is to read a romcom about romcoms😏 From Dirty Dancing to To All The Boys I've Loved Before, from Pretty Woman to After We Fell, we get ALL THE ROMCOM REFERENCES RIGHT HERE. Sally is a romantic at heart, with her love for bright colours and her sunshine vibes. She loves watching romcoms with her best friends Kitty and Vince while chugging down margaritas. When she's not doing that, she's busy running a beautiful café. Sally is literally me😂 However, after her sister moves out of her apartment, Sally finds a new roommate through mutual friends, and in comes Harry the hottie😏 (FOR GOODNESS SAKE, THE TWO CHARACTERS ARE NAMED HARRY & SALLY, SO YOU MIGHY AS WELL GET THAT THIS BOOK LIVES AND BREATHES ROMCOMS). Harry's the total opposite of Sally. He doesn't believe in romance, is a cynic about everything, and this is pretty much his resting face: 🙄. The two are basically supposed to be enemies, but one night after too many margaritas, Harry and Sally decide to reenact the lift scene from Dirty Dancing. Even though reenacting the lift turns out to be a total disaster, Sally posts it on tiktok and bare views are collected...now Sally and Harry think they have a way to make money now by making clips together where they try (and extremely fail) to copy famous romcom scenes. BUT, what happens when those scenes they act out in diners and pottery studios end up feeling real....now the two don't know if they're just acting or if the words they're saying in front of the camera actually mean something...SUCH A GOOD BOOK. I love the bantering between both Harry and Sally, I really think the fact that they're both polar opposites are what made them connect so well. I also love the side characters in the novel. Kitty and Vince are real ones. Meanwhile, Harry's ex can get lost😤 what she did was unacceptable smh. ALSO I'M MAINLY IN LOVE WITH ALL THE ROMCOM REFERENCES. BECAUSE I LIVE AND BREATHE ROMCOMS. THE END.
3.5 rounded down! I'm a big rom-com girlie, so I was intrigued by the premise!
Harry meets Sally after finding out that his girlfriend, who won't move out of his house, cheated on him with this boss. Cue the New Girl vibes, but with less roommates. Harry finds that Sally is renting out her sister's old room into her house. Harry (who is a grumpy-ish construction worker) realizes that Sally is all about love. Harry doesn't believe in love, but sees the iconic scene in Dirty Dancing. He believes it's easy, she says that they should try it, they video tape it, Sally uploads it to TikTok, and the rest is history. They get popular and decide to recreate iconic rom com scenes. The viewers see the romance between the two, but do Harry and Sally? What will happen?
I thought this was fun, and cute how they recreated the scenes with their own twist. I don't love how TikTok is becoming a part of every book I see at this point, but it didn't bother me too much. Part of the book felt forced and not needed. The ending also somewhat fell flat.(spoiler alert somewhat ahead!!!) The "grand gesture" just felt like the end of The Proposal. I was hoping that Harry was going to pull a "10 Things I Hate About You" and start singing into the coffee shop. I liked that it was a quick read and that we got dual point of views, but some felt forced and others felt rushed.
Thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!
If a romcom hallmark movie written into a book. It would be this. Overall this was an okay read. The pacing was a little too slow for me and I didn’t really connect with the characters. There is a lot of filler, it would have the same delivery if parts were shortened. Half way through I couldn’t stand the back and forth debacle, if Harry was the one for Sally, because of “the bells.” Spice is 🌶️ to 🫑. There was some character development, but with the side characters. They just fell through for me.
Freeman's writing is witty and engaging, capturing the fun and nostalgia of romantic comedy movies while also exploring the complexities of real-life relationships. The novel is full of memorable characters. The plot is well-paced and entertaining, with plenty of laughs and poignant moments to keep the reader engaged. The novel also touches on themes of self-discovery, forgiveness, and the power of love. is a delightful and uplifting read that will appeal to fans of romantic comedies and stories about the challenges of modern love. It is a perfect book for anyone looking for a fun and heartwarming story that celebrates the power of love and the magic of movies.
I just want to say the cover is Stunning and that's one of the biggest things that drew me into wanting to read the book! The description sounded very promising for something similar to Dirty Dancing.
While normally I love a good cute floofy romance this one just didn't stick out to me.
The chemistry between the characters just didn't feel like they were vibing like they should have.
There was something missing from the story to really bring it together and i think it was the chemistry of Sally and Harry.
