Ah such a cute lil romance! A novel that takes all the best parts from some of the most classic romance/comdedy movies is perfect for anyone wanting a fast-paced, gushy, happily ever after.

This follows your classic trope of close proximity and if you're into that this one is for you.

DNF @20%. I really tried to like this book, but the storyline and characters weren't engaging me at all.

And when I tell you I tried, I trieddddd. If I'm going to DNF a book, I usually do so early--like within the first day of reading it. This one took at least 3 days for me to decide I wasn't going to like it and it wasn't worth my time.

Was there anything inherently wrong with this book? No. That's probably why I waited so long to DNF. I overall thought the premise and characters were interesting, but that initial interest wasn't enough to keep me going.

Basically, these characters were boring. I knew nothing deep about the male mc 20% in. I had no idea why he would be attracted to the female mc other than she has blonde curly hair and blue eyes. What is it about her personality that attracted him to her?? Absolutely nothing 20% in because he would only comment on her looks or how annoying he found her.

Then we get to the premise. I thought it would be cute for him to watch romcoms with her IF WE ACTUALLY EVER SAW THAT ON THE PAGE. They say they're going to and then it cuts away. Whyyy?? I wanted to read his reactions to some of the iconic moments.

My biggest annoyance with this book from what I read was the idea that one viral video would convince two grown adults they should continue making videos to make money. Like....TikTok doesn't work that way for most people. One viral video does not a career make. I couldn't suspend my disbelief that their plan would work in order to enjoy it.

All in all, I found the writing boring.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for sending me an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

"You told me once that you know real life isn't like a romcom, but I'm starting to seriously doubt that."

Of course, the perfect way to start a new season is to read a romcom about romcoms😏 From Dirty Dancing to To All The Boys I've Loved Before, from Pretty Woman to After We Fell, we get ALL THE ROMCOM REFERENCES RIGHT HERE. Sally is a romantic at heart, with her love for bright colours and her sunshine vibes. She loves watching romcoms with her best friends Kitty and Vince while chugging down margaritas. When she's not doing that, she's busy running a beautiful café. Sally is literally me😂 However, after her sister moves out of her apartment, Sally finds a new roommate through mutual friends, and in comes Harry the hottie😏 (FOR GOODNESS SAKE, THE TWO CHARACTERS ARE NAMED HARRY & SALLY, SO YOU MIGHY AS WELL GET THAT THIS BOOK LIVES AND BREATHES ROMCOMS). Harry's the total opposite of Sally. He doesn't believe in romance, is a cynic about everything, and this is pretty much his resting face: 🙄. The two are basically supposed to be enemies, but one night after too many margaritas, Harry and Sally decide to reenact the lift scene from Dirty Dancing. Even though reenacting the lift turns out to be a total disaster, Sally posts it on tiktok and bare views are collected...now Sally and Harry think they have a way to make money now by making clips together where they try (and extremely fail) to copy famous romcom scenes. BUT, what happens when those scenes they act out in diners and pottery studios end up feeling real....now the two don't know if they're just acting or if the words they're saying in front of the camera actually mean something...SUCH A GOOD BOOK. I love the bantering between both Harry and Sally, I really think the fact that they're both polar opposites are what made them connect so well. I also love the side characters in the novel. Kitty and Vince are real ones. Meanwhile, Harry's ex can get lost😤 what she did was unacceptable smh. ALSO I'M MAINLY IN LOVE WITH ALL THE ROMCOM REFERENCES. BECAUSE I LIVE AND BREATHE ROMCOMS. THE END.

3.5 rounded down! I'm a big rom-com girlie, so I was intrigued by the premise!

Harry meets Sally after finding out that his girlfriend, who won't move out of his house, cheated on him with this boss. Cue the New Girl vibes, but with less roommates. Harry finds that Sally is renting out her sister's old room into her house. Harry (who is a grumpy-ish construction worker) realizes that Sally is all about love. Harry doesn't believe in love, but sees the iconic scene in Dirty Dancing. He believes it's easy, she says that they should try it, they video tape it, Sally uploads it to TikTok, and the rest is history. They get popular and decide to recreate iconic rom com scenes. The viewers see the romance between the two, but do Harry and Sally? What will happen?

I thought this was fun, and cute how they recreated the scenes with their own twist. I don't love how TikTok is becoming a part of every book I see at this point, but it didn't bother me too much. Part of the book felt forced and not needed. The ending also somewhat fell flat.(spoiler alert somewhat ahead!!!) The "grand gesture" just felt like the end of The Proposal. I was hoping that Harry was going to pull a "10 Things I Hate About You" and start singing into the coffee shop. I liked that it was a quick read and that we got dual point of views, but some felt forced and others felt rushed.

If a romcom hallmark movie written into a book. It would be this. Overall this was an okay read. The pacing was a little too slow for me and I didn’t really connect with the characters. There is a lot of filler, it would have the same delivery if parts were shortened. Half way through I couldn’t stand the back and forth debacle, if Harry was the one for Sally, because of “the bells.” Spice is 🌶️ to 🫑. There was some character development, but with the side characters. They just fell through for me.

Freeman's writing is witty and engaging, capturing the fun and nostalgia of romantic comedy movies while also exploring the complexities of real-life relationships. The novel is full of memorable characters. The plot is well-paced and entertaining, with plenty of laughs and poignant moments to keep the reader engaged. The novel also touches on themes of self-discovery, forgiveness, and the power of love. is a delightful and uplifting read that will appeal to fans of romantic comedies and stories about the challenges of modern love. It is a perfect book for anyone looking for a fun and heartwarming story that celebrates the power of love and the magic of movies.

I just want to say the cover is Stunning and that's one of the biggest things that drew me into wanting to read the book! The description sounded very promising for something similar to Dirty Dancing.
While normally I love a good cute floofy romance this one just didn't stick out to me.
The chemistry between the characters just didn't feel like they were vibing like they should have.
There was something missing from the story to really bring it together and i think it was the chemistry of Sally and Harry.

This book was super adorable! I picked it up because the title screamed Dirty Dancing and I wasn’t disappointed! Ridiculously cute need to grab a copy for my shelf

4 A Concept Stars
I happen to love tales that will take an idea, fully commit to it, and then take you on a journey. Nobody Puts Romcoms In The Corner by Kathryn Freeman. Most readers of my generation fell hard, in love, and obsessed with Dirty Dancing. We never had that type of experience in movies and wanted it personally. It became a legend with the iconic lift of Baby over Patrick Swayze's shoulders. It became immediately recognizable and loved.

This book takes this action and marries it to today's times meaning video/streaming, Instagram, YouTube, Ticktock, Twitter, and anything else that goes viral. It brings two opposites and tests if love can be real and true.

I tried not to compare it with other books that use the romcom movie premise, but this one didn't live up to my expectations.

When Harry responds to Sally’s ad for a roommate, the two seem to have nothing in common. Sally is an incurable romantic; Harry is recovering from a breakup with his cheating girlfriend and doesn’t believe in true love or happily ever afters. After they recreate the lift from Dirty Dancing and the post goes viral, they decide to recreate other iconic scenes from classic rom-coms in order to make some much needed cash. Sparks are soon flying, and both Harry and Sally have to re-examine their beliefs on love and relationships.

From the moment Harry met Sally, I was hooked. Yes, one could potentially find the title, the premise, and even the characters’ names a little on the cheesy side, but this was pure rom-com style fun, and I loved it. The secondary storylines with Sally’s bratty sister and Harry’s dysfunctional parents (not to mention the cheating girlfriend who wouldn’t leave his house) were less fun and dragged this from a 5 star rating down to a 4 star rating for me, but overall I enjoyed it and would recommend it to adults who enjoy and appreciate rom-coms.

"Nobody Puts Romcoms In The Corner" is a charming and lighthearted romantic comedy that will have readers laughing and rooting for the characters until the very end.

This was darling. I loved all the romcom references and the PINING. Adorable. Some of the side characters like Harry’s parents were the absolute worst! Some like Kitty and Amy were terrible but had good moments too.
Harry and Sally tho. Sooo cute I loved the grumpy sunshine and forced proximity.

Thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins for an eARC.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for allowing me to read this book early in exchange for my honest review.

Overall, this was a lighthearted, easy read. The characters were likable and relatable. There were some parts that were quite cheesy, but it was cheesy to where it just made you smile. The perfect amount of romance, spice - just an overall feel good book!

Cute, sweet, gave me the feels. Love the classic romcom references! I loved their dynamic. Was a little longer than it needed to be but overall a fun romcom.

Cynical Harry meets romantic Sally as he moves into her flat. He questions her love for romcoms, she questions his disbelief in love. One drunken night, they create a bet leading to them recreating a romcom scene—for her to prove there must be romantic chemistry, for him to prove otherwise—and they go viral overnight. Thus, this begins a story, filled with more romcom recreations, of two complete opposites in forced proximity.

If you are a romcom lover yourself, then this is for you!

At the start, it felt slow for me as a Gen Z person who didn’t grow up watching this type of media, so I couldn’t quite relate to the movie scenes they mentioned. However, I do enjoy Harry and Sally’s interactions, in both recreating these scenes and them hanging out together. After all, I am a romance-reading girlie. So, if you are like me, I believe you’ll enjoy this too.

Harry is also very cynical at the start and while I agree with his viewpoints, I’m also drawn a lot more and relate to Sally’s love for romance. With that, it’s interesting to find out how this could lead to a happy ending, which is promised in a romance book. They become good friends, their chemistry slowly grows, and I find myself reading with intrigue if they would continue putting a line between them or allow it to blur to give themselves a possibility of romance.

What I appreciate in their story is their childhood and how it shaped them. It gives their character substance and allows me, as a reader, to understand and empathise with them, and not question nor judge why the story is going the way it is. I also appreciate the different messages of romance in this, from the way it can be extravagant, expressive, and a love that you immediately see, to it being simple, lowkey, and a love that you try and work for.

If you are looking for a fun and light, with a tad bit emotional, romcom read, I hand you this book. So go and check it out, I recommend!

This story was really cute and I loved that it was pretty clean. The homage to the rom com genre was fun but I am too young or just not into movie to be familiar enough with the romcom classics to get the nods to those legends. Overall it was an easy and quick read

As a lover of romcoms this story was perfect with the number of movies referred to in the book. I loved how Harry and Sally (how perfect are their names?) went viral trying to do the Dirty Dancing leap in Sally’s apartment. The other scenes they tried to recreate were hilarious, and I loved the reaction of people who inadvertently found themselves witness to some of the more risqué recreations!

Sally had been forced to grow up at an early age, to raise her younger sister alone, with the ensuing problems that ultimately brought with it, and although at initial meeting she seemed like a desperate romantic, she definitely had a stronger core personality, with a strength that belied her years. Harry on the other hand was sceptical about love and romance, and even though he could not resist joining in with her viral videos, because of his childhood with remote parents, he found it difficult to believe in love.

I loved the story arc of Sally and her sister Amy, and the way in which Amy was finally able to find her direction in life, presented to her by Harry trying to help. Both Harry and Sally had lovely friendship groups who protected them but also made them see sense on the issues that were preventing them from moving forwards with a relationship.

Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner is a fun romcom of it’s own, which was such an endearing read and definitely put a huge smile on my face, just like the movies do!
