I thoroughly enjoyed Stranded by Sarah Goodwin so was looking forward to reading this! And OMG it was even BETTER than Stranded!! I was up till the early hours of this morning finishing this off as I just couldn’t put it down once I started it.

I actually don’t think I even read the blurb before I started reading as it quickly became obvious that this book wasn’t what I was expecting from the opening few pages. So that dealt me a few shocks from very early on. I was expecting the drama to start when Mila and Ethan arrived at her sisters wedding but it’s actually when they are on their way to the wedding that they become lost and end up in a small, inhabited area with some dilapidated buildings where they can take shelter from the snow and cold. But when Mila awakes the next morning her husband has disappeared. Without proper food and clothing Mila is forced to stay in the creepy cabin especially as she is convinced that there is someone or something out there…watching.

This is such a clever storyline that grips you immediately. I loved the flashbacks as well as the reader is given an insight into the relationship between the two sisters and why Mila is so determined to make her sisters wedding special. But the tension built up by the things that Mila finds whilst looking for Ethan is breathtaking! I thought I knew what was going on but I was pretty far off the mark!

The Resort is a brilliant page turner, gripping and shocking throughout. I absolutely loved it!

Mila and her husband, Ethan, are en route to her sister’s destination wedding in the Alps. She and her sister have been on the outs for a while, so Mila is determined to make it so they can repair their relationship. However, on the way to the resort, the car breaks down. She and Ethan find an abandoned town and manage to take refuge in one of the cabins for the night. When she wakes up the next morning, Ethan is gone with no trace of where he went. Alone without any communication devices and with the eerie feeling she is being watched, Mila must survive.

This book felt like two different books for me. The first half was pure survival. I think this part stretched on for too long especially because there were “days” where there was just like two paragraphs. I feel like it could’ve condensed down and still had the same effect. Then Mila is rescued, and this starts the second book feel. This is more like domestic suspense. Although, it is not very suspenseful because the minute we find out her husband is alive, obviously he is super guilty. The suspense is more why. Overall, the wrap-up (why the bodies in the town were there and why Ethan did the things he did) were underwhelming for me.

I enjoyed this novel and found it very intriguing but unfortunately it was very repetitive as well in places, but I think this was purely to try and embed the setting of the scene and the emotions that the character was going through..
There were plenty of twists in this book that kept you guessing.

I enjoyed this book but, the main character really irritated me. She was so unprepared for going to a cold and snowy country and seemed to be unable to cope with life in general. The ending was a complete surprise as I thought it was someone else and got it completely wrong. On the whole it was a good story. I loved this authors last book Stranded so i was super excited to get this one on Netgalley. I loved it from start to finish full of so many twists. Just what I want a thriller to be.

This was everything you need for a thriller and crime story. It is not as black and white as you first think and like most typical thrillers, is full of twists. This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and would read more of their work. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. I very gripping read the beginning seem slow but it was building the plot up and wow it hook you into it I loved the descriptions I could picture it all in my head mia all alone in the setting I love all the twist and turn it such a gripping read a page turner I did not wait it to end a great book

Mila & husband Ethan are in Bavaria on their way to Mila's sister's wedding. She & Jess have had a rather rocky road & this is a chance for Mila to do something right for a change! However when the SatNav goes off, the car breaks down & the snow starts they go to look for shelter & find a deserted village. On the way Mila falls & hurts her ankle. The six cabins are in a poor state of repair. They manage to build a fire & exhausted fall asleep. When Mila wakes up she is alone. There is no sign of Ethan- he has just vanished & there are no sign of footprints going away from the cabin. Left alone, injured & with very little food, she is positive she is being watched. Will her sister think she is late as usual? And where IS Ethan.

This book captures the isolation, cold & fear Mila feels. At times I found it hard going with the focus on just one character but nevertheless it kept my interest. Some of the twist came as a complete surprise but other bits I had guessed. Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book.

This was my first read by Sarah Goodwin and I really enjoyed it.
This book drew me in from the beginning and I couldn’t put it down. The first half of the book is so atmospheric and creepy. It does almost feel like a paranormal book at times due to the eerie imagery of that first half.
The second half is such a wild ride filled with multiple twists I didn’t see coming.
This may have been my first read by the author but it definitely won’t be my last. Highly recommend to thriller lovers.

I requested the ARC of this book as soon as I saw it on Netgalley. Getting stranded in a secluded place where people start dying, secrets start coming out and nothing makes sense makes for my favourite plot. I have also read and enjoyed one of this author's previous books but only realized it after finishing it.

I thought this was an okay thriller, atmospheric, yet the reactions of the characters felt a bit forced and unrealistic imo. Still, all was good until the end because then it started giving me a hallmark movie vibe. Everyone cries and then smiles, and the happy ending very soon turns gooey. I'm sorry, but like can we keep thrillers strictly thrilling, this kinda got lost between sisterly bonds and the main characters dying for some love and attention.

This is a creepy, dark mystery. It’s absolutely perfect for scaring yourself a little on these long dark nights.

I was kept interested by the twists in the story and enjoyed this thoroughly.

Half the book detailing in great depth Mila trying to survive after being stranded in the snow. Then it finally gets going. As others have said, it marginally improves in the second half and more so right at the end, but it’s pretty obvious.

Sarah's debut Stranded was one of my favourite books of 2021 and so I was eager to dive into this one. I absolutely loved it!

The premise is relatively simple. Mila and her husband Ethan are on their way to Mila's estranged sister Jess' wedding in a luxury hotel in the Alps. Whilst on route, their Sat Nav stops working, then their hire car breaks down in the middle of the snowy wilderness. Deciding their only option is to hike to the nearest remote village, upon their arrival, they find the 6 cabins long abandoned and deserted. After managing to make a fire, they reluctantly bed down for the night. But when Mila wakes, Ethan is gone. She is alone. Or is she? What follows is a dark, spine chilling, survival story that left me rapidly turning the pages into the night.

I love the author's descriptive writing, turning the stark snowy lonely landscape so real I could almost feel the bone chilling cold and desolation. The majority of the book is told through the eyes of Mila alone, which to me was its absolute strength. Her every thought, suspicion and increasing terror was brilliantly portrayed, as was her determination to survive.

The details of her desperation to eke out her meagre rations, keep herself warm and try and attract help were as believable, as they were terrifying. The tension is palpable and I found myself willing Mila on at every step.

This is a brilliantly written, atmospheric thriller and I didn't want it to end. I have already recommended it to several people. This is a must read! Just don't read it alone!

Wow wow wow. I loved this!! I sped right through to the end desperate to know what would happen. I had my suspicions from the outset but was completely wrong!
Thoroughly enjoyed this fast paced clever thriller. This is my 2nd book by this author and it did not disappoint.

This was my first book by this author, she has been on my radar for a while.

This book sucked me in at the beginning, it was tense and I certainly could imagine how Mila was feeling alone, with the thought that someone was watching her. But then I felt it fell a little flat and almost repetitive in the middle but luckily it certainly did pick up pace again and I wasn’t disappointed.
Mostly set in the present day we are at times given antidotes of Mila’s past and the relationship with her sister of which was one on the things that frustrated me but explained later.
All in all an enjoyable book with a satisfying ending.

A roller coaster of a book! I was hooked by this terrifying thriller that gets creepier at every page!
Mila ends up alone in an abandoned cabin site with her husband missing and a vicious snowstorm howling outside. She is desperate to get to her sister's wedding. As she fights for survival, the dangerous situation gets dramatically worse!
The constant building up of tension , together with the background of Mila and her sister Jess, makes for a breathtaking read!
Perfect for thriller fans!

I’ve not read anything by Sarah Goodwin before and I’d gone in blind to this one, so there was no expectations as such.

The first half was very atmospheric with a frantic and claustrophobic aspect that came through so well in the writing. The suspense was built up brilliantly and it definitely kept you on the edge of your seat. There was a certain horror/paranormal aspect present in the first half, which isn’t my usual bag but it did work for the premise and wasn’t too out of place.

The second half of the book however, seemed like something else entirely. It was almost like it was taken from another book - didn’t seem fitting to what we’d got used to in the first half. The plot twists and such seemed a little too convenient and it all just seems to tumble out and fall neatly into place.

I didn’t dislike the book, but it wasn’t my favourite. It had a lot of really good points and an amazingly strong start. The second half did just let it down for me.

Oh. My. God.
It has been some time since a book genuinely creeped me out so much, that I had to keep pausing. The Resort gave me literal chills, and then some.

For the majority of the book, we are literally only following our main protagonist Mila, as she fights for survival in an abandoned village, in snow covered Germany. I totally felt as if it was me experiencing this, and I was completely spooked.

The twists and turns in this book where incredible, and I genuinely had no idea what was coming next.

Such a good book!

The Resort by Sarah Goodwin had major ups and downs for me. I loved the premise.

“Mila and her husband Ethan are on their way to her sister’s wedding at a luxurious ski resort. When the car engine suddenly stops and won’t start again.
Stranded, with night closing in, they make their way on foot back to where they saw a sign for some cabins.
When they finally reach them, they find the windows boarded up and the buildings in disrepair. They have the eerie sense they shouldn’t be there. With snow falling more heavily, they have no choice but to break into one to spend the night.
In the morning when Mila wakes, Ethan is gone.
Now she is all alone.
Or is she?”

It started off well. The prologue really got me hooked, which is what a good one does. Then we got to the cabins and I was prepared for some thrills, and was looking forward to seeing if they were supernatural or man made. This started off great too… and then it started to drag, but I kept reading because I really was invested. And then it dragged some more. After that part we get to almost the end. There’s not a lot of suspects so it’s really easy to figure out who it is. So that wasn’t great. Then Mila starts to piece it together and that was interesting. And then the conclusion to why, and while it was fine, I also found it not as thrilling as I had hoped.
Was it written well? Yes. Were the characters developed? Yes. Even with the dragging of the middle and the not super realistic, in my mind, conclusion would I recommend to give The Resort by Sarah Goodwin a read? Yes.
