First off, I don't understand the German soldier on the book's cover?

A short story (50 pages) about witches, death and generations of an inter-connected family living in the Louisiana bayou. I'm sorry, I just can't recommend this book. Too strange.

I am really not sure where the author was going with this story. It was really short, but I was completely lost throughout the whole thing.
