A beautiful and magical story with gorgeous artwork. This is one that I feel could be left as a standalone but I'm intrigued by where the story could go next.

I enjoyed the read! It was fun and quick. Reminded me a little of Rick Riordan’s tales. My favourite part by far was how it is based around lore and myths from Latin America. I finished dying to read more about them.

I've been really looking forward to Season of the Bruja for a while now, and I'm excited to have finally gotten to it. The protagonist is interesting and sympathetic, and it's easy to love the human and nonhuman side characters as well. The villain is truly frightening, especially being based in the colonisation of Latin America. The story was engaging. The art was gorgeous. There's a lot to love here. I do wish the story had been longer. There was a lot of it where I didn't necessarily want more content, but I did want more depth to the content that was there. Regardless, I did really enjoy this one. I hope we get a second volume eventually! I would definitely recommend it.

From the moment I delved into "The Last Bruja" by Aaron Durán, I was captivated by the rich tapestry of Althalia's world—a world where ancient powers collide with modern prejudices, and the legacy of her people hangs in the balance. What sets "The Last Bruja" apart is its skillful portrayal of Althalia's journey of self-discovery and empowerment. Through her trials, the novel deftly explores themes of cultural identity, resilience in the face of oppression, and the enduring power of community and ancestral knowledge. The author's prose weaves a spellbinding tale that seamlessly blends the supernatural with the struggles of identity and belonging.

Thank you so much for the ARC, however this book was not for me. The art was lively but I struggled with the story.

Season of the Bruja drops you right into the middle of a demon fight. The House of Oddities is a trio that works together to stop supernatural threats. Althalia, the youngest of the group, is a powerful bruja still being trained by her abuela. Her compatriots' worries over her vast power are only multiplied when she a) bargains with a demon one-on-one and then b) gets tangled up in a grief so deep that she'd do anything to fix things, stretching her limits, and damn the consequences.

My favorite parts of this comic are twofold. First, the art stands out. Whether in the underworld or in Althalia and her grandmother's apartment, the colors are vivid and the scenes reinforce the story's moods and fantastical situations. The commentary about colonialism is the other part that I found most compelling. The story pushes further than just referencing big-picture consequences of colonial violence, though that's present, too. It goes deeper to examine inner battles for identity and power. How does a person reconcile their language and their faith with a colonial past? How can one weigh the past against one's own experiences and the tangled dynamics of one's ancestry? On both sides of the supernatural conflict brewing by the end of this volume, we see characters clinging to different aspects of their heritage and seeking validation from different dangerous sources.

I would have enjoyed these elements a bit more if the fast pace didn't sometimes leave me in the dust. There were moments during the action when I wasn't certain what was going on. And some big emotional beats felt rushed to squeeze in more of the supernatural shenanigans. All the same, I think this is a promising series starter with a lot to say. Thanks to Oni for my copy to read and review!

Thank you for this arc in exchange for an honest review.

This presents an intriguing tale of magic and mystery, but my experience with it was mixed. While there were aspects I appreciated, overall, it didn't fully capture my interest.

One positive aspect of the graphic novel is its vibrant artwork. The illustrations are colorful and dynamic, bringing the world of the Bruja to life in vivid detail. However, I felt that the execution fell short in terms of character depth and storytelling.

I loved this! I don't usually read graphic novels, but I thoroughly enjoyed this one. The art was so beautiful and vibrant, each page was so stunning to look at. I loved the story and the characters, and I really connected to them in a short amount of time! It tackled some really interesting themes surrounding colonization. I highly recommend!

I quite liked this. It's a cool world. It's about a girl and her abuela who is teaching her to be bruja or a witch. The problem with the story is that it feels like you've started on volume 6 of an ongoing story. All of these different elements are introduced without any explanation of what they are or mean. Even just some footnotes would have helped. The art and character designs were terrific. There is enough to like that I'd recommend this and read another volume if one comes out.

Both the edition and the art style are beautiful, as the cover shows, and it is very colourful and pleasant to read.

The graphic novel starts right in the middle of the action, which I appreciate it, but I felt a bit lost for a while, as the action was so fast and I was not familiar with what was going on or how anything worked. It was a nice introduction and I do think it does get better with the issues, as I enjoyed the later ones more than the first ones, even if there is no central story.

There are some Spanish words/short sentences throughout, but I think it is well woven into the story and you do not need to speak the language to understand it. It's mostly filler words or how characters call each other.

It is a nice blend of magic, family, history and culture, and I do believe my issues with this first volume would be resolved in further ones.

Okay so this wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t great either. I thought the art was great and the story kind of middling. I also finished it ages ago so I won’t get too into details. Basically Althalia works with her friends to save bruja history and tradition.

Like I said, it’s okay, could have been a bit more clearly written. I don’t really recommend this because it wasn’t stellar.

Thanks so much to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this for my honest and unbiased opinion.

I love everything about this. The art is beautiful, and I am obsessed with the story. I can't wait for volume 2. I need to know what else is going to happen with the gods and Lia. Sweet Lia, I can't wait to see her grow.
