I thought that this book had some excellent illustrations!

They were lovely and they brought the story to life

I thought that the book was well written and the book was really well put together, the layout was perfect and the writing wasn’t over the images like it can be in some books, it was nice and clear

I loved the twist on the 12 days of Christmas and as that is one of my daughter’s favourites she really enjoyed it and was joining in too with the counting up and down

It is 5 stars from me for this one, a fun read – very highly recommended

I read this book with my 5 year old daughter who is in kindergarten, I asked her on a scale of 1-5 her thoughts, she said 100! This is a cute spin on the 12 days of Christmas that is easy for kids to follow along, let’s them assist with counting, and discusses baking in a fun way, even supplying the recipe to try at home at the end! Most def will get the hard copy of this book upon release to keep with our Christmas books! Great holiday read for families of young kids!

Thank you Fiona Baker and NetGalley for the ARC!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ -- Adorable cover!

OMG, this book was SO freaking adorable! It is full of colorful and bright illustrations and retells the Twelve Days of Christmas but with animals bringing the ingredients for a special Christmas cake. It also includes a yummy Christmas cupcake recipe, and the words to the original Twelve Days of Christmas song. This would make the perfect holiday gift!

A charming festive rhyming tale about the baking of a Twelfth night cake.

Every day some new animal friends arrive with an ingredient until the cake is finally ready.

The illustrations are gorgeous and full of so much detail.

There's a lovely recipe at the end of the book for young bakers who have berm inspired by the tale.

Many thanks to the publisher for providing me with a digital ARC through Netgalley for an honest review.

This book is a take on the 12 days of Christmas but with the theme of kids baking. This is a perfect book to gift if you want to start or already have a tradition of holiday baking with a little one. The book also features a recipe in the back which is the perfect extra touch.

Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books for my copy of The BIG Christmas Bake by Fiona Barker in exchange for an honest review. It publishes October 4, 2022.
Ok, first off, GORGEOUS illustrations! What a joy to look at for those young and young at heart! Second off, what a cute way to introduce the theme of 12th night to children. I loved that it was set to song, and this will be such a fun holiday read-aloud with a classroom, story time at a library, and especially with your little snuggled up on your lap, as you celebrate the holidays! This will make an excellent gift this season!

Brilliant Christmas book! The wording and illustrations are great. I read this to my 6 year old and she thoroughly enjoyed it. Then my 11 and 9 year old read it again numerous times with her. They all loved the illustrations and singing away to the verses.
They also especially liked the cake recipe at the end, so that’s our weekend sorted!
This would make a brilliant pre Christmas present for any young child. Great way to get into the Christmas spirit.

Wow, this is a really amazing children's Christmas book, which my daughter and I had so much fun with. The book is full of beautiful and stunning graphics of children and animals making a big Christmas cake. It has a lot of pages, filled to the brim with creative words and pictures, which all children will love. The text is related to the 12 days of Christmas song, which I sang to my daughter. She loved the book, and my singing, and we had a fun time together. At the end of the book there is also a recipe to make a Christmas cake, which I thought was a great addition to what is already a perfect book. Overall, this book is really fantastic, and it would make a great gift for any child. Highly recommended!

Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and all opinions expressed are entirely my own.

I absolutely enjoyed this book set around the twelve days of Christmas song but instead of a song the kids are trying to make a Twelfth night cake. The premise pf this book, the illustrations and the recipe at the end made this book worth the read and every child will enjoy this book. I loved it so much .Highly recommend for tis' the season of good reads

Okay, so this book is only about 30-odd pages long and it’s aimed at 4-6 year olds. But even as someone who is pushing 30 years old, I can really appreciate how beautiful this book is.

The illustrations really help make this book. The poetic prose itself is lovely in itself, but with the images, it just goes up another level. They’re not too simple but they’re not too complicated, as Goldilocks says, they’re just right. They really evoke that childhood magic we all get around Christmas time.

It’s not a surprise to most when I say I love Christmas and I love baking, so even if this is a children’s book, it was right up my street. It’s easy to read and it flows nicely and just gives you this festive warmth.

I have children in my family that range from 2-10 and I definitely think the younger ones would love to read come those dark wintery nights. I may even have to buy copies to leave in their bed once the nights start drawing in.

It’s really clever. I’ve tried writing children’s fiction before and it’s hard to get that balance right, but this has been thought through extremely well and had me smiling from start to finish.

I received a free copy of, The BIG Christmas Bake, by Fiona Barker from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This book is about twelfth night, which is not commonly talked about in the US. They are baking a cake, for twelfth night, baking during and after Christmas is very special. This is a very cute story.

A cute version of the 12 Days of Christmas! instead of the traditional gifts, the kids are brought items to help them bake their twelfth day cake. It was really cute with great illustrations. I kept wanting to sing the song with the new things but there is more description for some, so that didn't work haha!

A twist on the classic 12 Days of Christmas, this one is perfect for the holiday season when your little ones are elbows deep in flower, batter, and all of the fun (and exceedingly messy) treats and traditions of the holidays. Desperate to make a Twelfth Night Cake, but unfortunately caught in a furious blizzard, these little ones are shocked when various animals on each day of Christmas deliver them the ingredients they need for a perfect cake. Speckled doves with flour, penguins with sugar, geese with eggs, milking maids with butter, and more – this one is festive, fun, and sends a message that hope is never lost in the joyful season of the holidays.

Oh my gosh I loved this book! I have a preschooler who loves to bake, so I wanted to check this one out. I had never heard of the Twelfth Night Cake and will definitely be trying it thanks to the recipe at the end.

What I really loved about this story was that each day leading up to it, the animals brought something new to add to the recipe/batter until the 12th day when they could finally make the day. What a unique and cute idea! The illustrations were so cute. We loved it!

Review to come to my blog on/around October 17th.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

I just HAD to request this book, look at how cute it is. Yes, it is a bit early for me to read Christmas books, I am currently all in for spooky stuff, but I just couldn't resist this adorable book!

In this fun book we follow two kids (and their dog) as they celebrate the Twelve Days of Christmas. Christmas is gone, but there is still enough Christmas to celebrate and what better way than by making a cake! And not just a cake, but A BIG cake. I absolutely loved seeing what the kids were doing each day of those twelve days all the while making the cake. Because they need ingredients. And that is how the song Twelve Days comes into play. We see various creatures from the song help out with the baking and I had so much fun seeing it happen and I was eager to see what each day and what each animal would bring (and also how each animal looked because that was definitely a thing, from maids to cows with bow ties). Though also maybe wondering a bit on how that cake stayed good for 12 whole days. XD

I couldn't wait for the last day! I just wanted to see that cake! I would have loved a bite, but that is out of the order with the eleventh day and the marzipan and such. Bah! But there is a recipe including in the back for Christmas Cupcakes, and I will definitely be trying that one out! It looks delicious. BTW? Can I have some mice to help me out? I would love that. I would ask my hamsters, but mostly they like eating, cuddles, or sleeping.

I loved the ending and it was so fun that everyone was once again included! That is one big table! And a gorgeous tree and decorations! I want to be part~ I was a bit worried at one bit in the picture but the next page made it all perfect and I was just cheering. Just like all the other animals were doing.
That last page in the book, LOVE IT! Until next year!

I loved the incorporation of the Twelve Days of Christmas song, though I had to look the song up to see if it all matched because while I have heard about it in books/movies I don't remember it. We don't have this song or the Twelve day thing in my country, maybe there is something in Dutch, but I don't know. Never celebrated it. It sounds like a fun tradition though and I would love something similar here. Haha, in the end I guess I didn't have to look up the song as it is added to the book in the end. Then again with how ADE is working.. I guess googling worked better. XD

The illustrations were absolutely a treat. The style was just so much fun. Colourful, playful, sparkly. I love it!

All in all, this is one book I would HIGHLY recommend to everyone. This is the perfect Christmas (or after) book. Read it!

This is the cutest book! I just read this to my four year old and he's now intrigued in making the cupcake recipe and has interest in singing the Twelvee Days of Christmas. We will definitely be looking to add this to our Christmas collection of books. Highly recommend this cute baking edition of the classic Christmas song.

This is a bright and cheerfully illustrated title for kids. It retells the traditional Twelve Days of Christmas carol. Here the creatures from that song help kids to assemble the ingredients for a Christmas cake. It looks like a fun process.

At the end of the book there are recipes and the traditional Christmas song. Little ones may enjoy getting into the spirit of the season here.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for this title. All opinions are my own.
