I really enjoyed this edge-of-your-seat thriller that leaves you wondering for the whole time who's evil. Basically this book is comparable to a bag of chips: once you open it, you cannot put it down, every chapter is a chip and you just want one more, then another one.
The plot is nicely built, the chapters tell different POV and there are two timelines but the book is easy and pleasant to read (at first I thought that would be confusing but it turns out it's one of the elements that kept me glued to my Kindle screen). The surprises kept coming and the atmosphere - the woods, the secluded cabin, the bad weather, the ghost story, red herrings here and there, the creepy and mysterious characters that you really don't know if they're going to play a part in the story - gently lead you through the chapters making you feel tense and clueless like the protagonists, well with an advantage because you can read the POV of the evil one(s) too.

Thank you to NetGalley and Legend Press for allowing me to read Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six by Lisa Unger!
Another highly anticipated "locked room" thriller by the fabulous Lisa Unger! Three couples in a luxury cabin in the woods for a fun and relaxing weekend sounds like just the thing new Mom, Hannah needs. A close knit group, her brother and wife, Best friend with her new boyfriend(who may be "the one"), these are the people she can really unwind, let loose and feel like herself again. with. She is reluctant to leave her young daughter for the first time, but Hannah and her husband need this to unwind and reconnect. Her brother, wealthy, successful, has generously rented this luxury cabin for them all and it sounds like a dream. A dream that will very quickly turn into a nightmare. Add in a tropical storm, ultra dark secrets and lies, past and present timelines, and we have ourselves a twisty unnerving thriller. How well do we ever really know each other and how far we will go to protect our loved ones? These three couples are about to find out and hopefully they all make it out alive.

I had seriously high hopes for this book...but sadly have to say that I just didn't enjoy it.
To me, the blurb for the book is misleading. Yes, the three couples do go to a cabin BUT the whole book revolves around something that is revealed in chapter one and not even vaguely mentioned in the blurb.
There are a LOT of characters (way more than the 6 at the cabin) and a lot of different points of view. To the point of it being chaotic and messy. And tbh, there was at least one point of view I thought entirely unnecessary.
The "spine-tingling history" of the cabin fell short. The story line for the owner of the cabin fell short.
I found myself just wanting to be done with the book rather than enjoying it.
I'm sure there are other readers who will love this book (and I certainly hope so!) but I was let down.
The story had potential. I still feel like it didn't need as many players and I'd like to have seen things come together a little better.
I give it two ⭐ - those are mostly due to the fact that Lisa Unger does great with descriptions and the writing itself was good.
Every book isn't for every person so I'd like to reiterate that this is just my personal opinion and some of you may LOVE this one!! 😊

4 stars
I was really impressed with Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six! It had everything a thriller needs…a secluded cabin, numerous bad people, having to decide which person is the killer out of numerous individuals.
There were many twists and turns to this book. The story is told from numerous people, but there are two separate timelines going on until you reach the end. This book reminded me of the Netflix documentary, The Father. It’s definitely not the same thing but it does feel a bit of similarity to it.
Overall I liked the characters and the storyline. This is my first Lisa Unger book, and I will definitely be reading more from her!
***Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC copy in return for an honest review***

Thank you to NetGalley, Legend Press, and Lisa Unger for an e-arc of Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six in exchange for an honest review.
It was pretty clear to me from the start what direction this was going to go, and for the most part I wasn’t wrong. Most of the characters were annoying and lacked depth, and things that I thought were going to be important were superfluous.
Despite all of that, this was still an entertaining read, purely in the way that I love watching messy, family dramas.

I loved the premise of this story, and the eerie setting. A cabin in the woods, a small group of family and friends, an oncoming storm, and a ghost story.
I did tend to back off and get listless with the multiple storylines, a few which I still don’t see as necessary.
Overall, the ending gives us a good lesson for life, and all the feel-good emotions.
Thank you NetGalley and Legand Press for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

What could go wrong.. renting a cabin in the woods? A fun weekend with friends is about to turn into a deadly nightmare..
Okay, this book was every fear I've ever had about rentals encompassed into one. I enjoyed it, but I had a really hard time following all the different perspectives.
My favorite thing about this book was how well Lisa Unger described the location. I'm not surprised by this because she is fantastic at that, but this book just didn't hit how I wanted it to. It may on a reread knowing all the characters. Thank you, netgalley, for a copy of this ARC.

It’s Julie! Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six by Lisa Unger is amazing!
It had it all:
Power that gets cut.
A terrible storm.
A downed tree.
Family secrets.
A small child left at home with her grandma.
A human bone sculpture.
Blood. A knife.
A hot tub.
No cell signal.
It’s great!

Thank you NetGalley and Legend Press for a complimentary copy of this novel. All opinions expressed in this review are my own. This novel is a psychological thriller where part of the story is set in a mountainous/woody area in Georgia. Six people (3 couples), get invited to stay at a luxurious cabin. And we all know something is bound to go wrong in this type of setting. There is also a hurricane making it’s way towards that cabin.
There are so many characters in this novel. Some of the characters mentioned end up being in a past timeline and makes you wonder how they tie in into the story. There’s Henry in the past as a boy, with his mom Alice. The story follows him as he grows up. There’s Braken, the weird owner of the luxurious cabin and host. There Cat/Catrina, who shows up later in the story. And then you have the six main characters (3 couples) which the book mostly focuses on, either their secret pasts or the present.
Overall, the premise of the book was great. I mostly enjoyed the novel. At times, I did get a bit confused as to the characters and who was who. I felt the book could have used better development of some ideas and characters. Some of the twists did surprise me and was unexpected, so I am rounding up my 3.5 stars to 4 stars. Overall, I do recommend this novel. It will be released February 16, 2023.

The setting was fantastic, eerie and atmospheric which really set my hopes high for a great thriller.
Sadly, my hopes were crushed.
There are multiple POV’s which were not all necessary. One of the storylines should have been eliminated completely- it added nothing to the book and was too obviously a red herring. I wish the author could have cut down on the characters and dug more into their individual stories and backgrounds. I didn’t really feel a connection with any of them. The ending felt rushed and very surface level, perhaps because of the lack of depth.

I’ve recently gotten into locked room thrillers so I was super thrilled to receive this ARC! This book read super quickly as there was so much going on. I was eager to see how each character and storyline was related. Talk about a book that packs a punch! I was constantly trying to guess where the story was heading.! I also loved the hurricane element. As a Floridian, I feel like that is one disaster that is often forgotten in thrillers.
My favorite part of the book was the exuberant amount of domestic drama and suspense. Everyone seemed to have secrets and I was just waiting for the tea to spill. At the conclusion of the book, some plotlines and characters/redherrings did seem a little unnecessary to the overall story. Then again, they kept me entertained and guessing so maybe they were necessary after all!
Thank you Netgalley and Legend Press for my review copy in exchange for an honest review!

Lisa Unger delivers another psychological thriller. There is so much going on in this book that the story can be hard to follow. There are several strong characters in this book and something extra creepy to think about the next time you go on vacation to a secluded cabin.

Thank you to NetGalley and Legend press for an arc of this title.
Overall a 3.5 stars
The set up of this story was great, an isolating setting which would keep you on your toes. However I found by 50/60% you had pretty much most of the pieces of the puzzle to figure it all out.
I did enjoy Henry’s narrative which made the book a lot more enjoyable for me.

This has the makings of lots of things I enjoy in a book. A secluded cabin, secrets to be revealed, a storm coming, plus an additional element around genetics and the concept of nature versus nurture. However, sadly it didn't live up to my expectations. I didn't connect with the main characters, and I found the ending left me a little disappointed.
I'm sure there will be others that will race through this, intrigued by the concepts explored.

I have never read any of this authors books before; but I was instantly drawn by the cover of the book and the summary to give it a go.
I instantly loved the main characters that were introduced; and was intrigued by the DNA element of the book. I found that I was really engaged but did feel like it started to lose pace in the middle before picking up with the ending. As always, I love the way that books switch character to keep me wanting to progress through the book and find out more.
Overall I give this book 4/5 and would happily read some more of the books by this author in the future!

Loved the idea for the book, I’m all for locked room like mysteries and settings in the woods but I just did not like any of the characters. We are rushed through a a number of perspectives and timelines and I think I got lost a bit by the end. I also didn’t feel like even the majority of the loose ends were tied up I still have so many questions.

The elite really do have it all, but at what cost? A group of family & friends take the ultimate getaway only to become stranded alone at a remote retreat cabin. A storm moves in and what we discover is during the storm could destroy them all. It’s a messy and complicated layered adventure. The ending could be trimmed a bit as everything is attempted to be wrapped up in a neat bow. Thanks to NetGalley for the read!

"This place is epic, you're gonna die" Lisa Unger | Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six
Great little psychological thriller! Three couples retreat to a luxurious cabin in the woods for a get away unknowing of what's to come in this position of isolation.
This book does have a lot of moving parts. It's easy to get lost in the story line. If you want a book you can pick up and put down often, put this one off until you can dedicate time to start and finish. It’s worth it
This novel is full of twists and unexpected turns! If you enjoy thrillers with haunting tales, crazy family antics, and a survival style motherly love this should be your next read!

Honestly, this was predictable. I more was reading to find out what would happen to each character in the end. A book to read but not one to have your mind blown.

A popular and prolific author, Lisa Unger’s Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six is her latest mystery novel. It begins with a family’s 2017 Christmas dinner, where we meet an array of characters. Then six months later, the siblings, a good friend and their partners, are enjoying a long weekend in an isolated luxury cabin. Multiple narrators then recount events, including a couple of unknown lurking characters, that are a harbinger of danger. A content warning as the narrative includes a brief description of self-harming and seemingly errantly plotted titillating trysts. As is so typical of Unger’s style, it’s a slow-burn mystery thriller, culminating in a crescendo of a finale. No doubt Lisa Unger fans will enjoy her new book, but it’s a hollow story, with capricious characters making for a three stars rating. With thanks to Legend Press and the author, for an uncorrected advanced review copy for review purposes. As always, the opinions herein are totally my own and freely given.
