Thank you for a chance to read and review this book but I did not like itk at all. I could not get interested in the story. Sadly I did not finish it.
I wanted to enjoy this book but was honestly so confused. The setup is solid. Three couples escape to a getaway in the woods. Each is looking forward to the experience but we quickly learn that nothing is as it seems. Tensions are high and the drama is fierce. The problem comes in as the timeline jumps backward and we gain more characters and interwoven stories. We never spent any amount of time with one person to truly track their story and care about what happens with them. I was honestly so lost for so much of it and when I began to catch on it was just too unbelievable for me. As a book I could definitely see how some may enjoy this one so I wouldn't count it out until you try it. There is a definite mystery aspect to it that is tough to figure out. It just wasn't for me but may be for you! I do hear great things about this author so will be trying some of her other books in the future.
My 3 stars is “I liked it and finished it”. This was a good read but not great. It was a bit far-fetched for me and honestly, I felt like I needed a notepad to keep up. And there were so many secrets going around. I felt as if no one was being truthful. So while I liked it, it was hard to keep track of what was going on, so that got the 3 star rating from me.
Well this was a very interesting book. This was my first Lisa Unger book and I really liked it. There were some things that were a little confusing but overall, it was a great book.
What I Liked: The setting of this book was very creepy and perfect for a thriller. Secluded luxury cabin, creepy employees, insane storm, murder cabin with creepy ghost stores. I also really liked the multiple POV’s. I know alot of people were complaining about how many there were, but I think it added to the suspense of the novel.
What I didn’t like: so about the twists- I loved the first big one. After that, too many and too crazy. The ending also felt a little unfinished to me. I wanted more answers and some of the characters felt out of place to me, with no real explanation of why there were there.
Overall, I really enjoyed this one. I will definitely be reading more of her books for sure.
I wasn't able to read this book because life has been extremely busy, so I will rate this 5 stars to compensate. The blurb looked very promising though, and I will read this when I get the chance and I will edit my review
This was not what I expected. I love isolated, wintery thrillers. Add family drama and I am there. This however really lacked for me. I found myself sitting it down, and taking longer to finish. I think, for me, this was wrong book for the wrong reader.
This captured my attention right away. I thought I knew what was happening but the twists just kept coming. I loved it. Nothing better then being surprised 😀
The book flowed easy and kept me wanting more, yet everything wrapped up in the end.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I really liked the premise of this but I found the multiple characters and their different plots quite confusing and choppy. It's fast paced and quite entertaining but also quite disjointed. I'm usually a big fan of the author so I will definitely look out for more from her but this one didn't grip me as much as her books normally do.
I sometimes find myself wanting to read a closed door mystery, so I picked up this one because of reviews. But it did not pull me in, and I did not like many of the characters. Thank you netgalley for the chance to check it out.
Thank you, Lisa Unger and NetGalley, for a copy of this eARC! I was really excited to see this available on NetGalley as I'd long wanted to read one of her books. I was really invested in the characters and setting of Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six. I couldn't even sleep that night because of it! What a great use of suspense!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this eARC.
In Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six Lisa Unger masterfully crafts a tense and claustrophobic atmosphere, where secrets and lies threaten to unravel a group of friends who rent a luxury cabin in the woods for a weekend getaway. What starts as a relaxing retreat soon turns into a nightmare, as a deadly storm, a creepy host, a haunted house, and a mysterious stranger all conspire to expose the dark past that binds them together. Unger skillfully juggles multiple perspectives and timelines, revealing the hidden motives and agendas of each character, and keeping the reader guessing who is the real enemy among them. The plot is full of surprises, with a satisfying and unexpected finale that will leave you breathless. Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six is a must-read for fans of Ruth Ware, Shari Lapena, and Lucy Foley, who will enjoy this exhilarating and addictive ride.
There were far too many characters with specific details to keep track of in my opinion. There were too many different POVs in my opinion. It felt a little disorganized and choppy. I felt like I was playing one of those mystery date night games and needed to reference the clues or take notes.
This book took awhile to get my attention, but soon as it did it sure held it. This book is a thriller with a theme that I had yet to read before. At its core this is a book about family. About where we come from and how much importance that knowledge holds to us/ over us. It explores the question, why do we put up with family, just because they’re family? What influence does our dna have over us and the rest of our family. Can we do more than our roots seem to say that we can. If there hadn’t been so much lead up to the 2nd half of the book I definitely would have rated it higher. The 1st half was too slow for me, but the second was a roller coaster of a ride. I will definitely be thinking about the theme of this book for days to come.
I was really intrigued by the premise of this book but unfortunately it just wasn’t for me. It was really slow and I struggled to relate to the characters which made it hard for me to enjoy. I’m sure this book will find the right readers, that just wasn’t me. Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and publisher for a chance to read and review this book.
A LOT is going on in this book -- a lot of characters, a lot of narratives, and a lot of detail. It doesn't feel like a particularly realistic book, though it is fast-paced and entertaining. If you're looking for a speedy, basic but dramatic thriller, this is it. For me it's the kind of book I'd find in a vacation rental (ironically) and read if it got too rainy outside... enough to captivate, but not my favourite.
With multiple timelines and several complex characters it left this story a little disjointed and hard to follow for me. I am a fan of this author so I'm excited with what she has coming next.
She's a reliable queen of the genre for a reason! Complex characters, multiple timelines and motives all converge in an ending you'll be invested in.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for an unbiased review.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! No spoilers. Beyond amazing I enjoyed this book so very much. The characters and storyline were fantastic. The ending I did not see coming Could not put down nor did I want to. Truly Amazing and appreciated the whole story. This is going to be a must read for many many readers. Maybe even a book club pick.
Thank you, NetGalley, for this book.
I have read many of her books including The Stranger Inside, but this one was my least favorite. The plot was a bit too disjointed. It explores the complexities of family, secrets, and genealogy, with a focus on the characters’ personal struggles and the eerie atmosphere of the isolated cabin. In theory, this should work, but I just couldn’t get into it. This book is mysterious, dark, medium-paced, and focuses on character flaws.
Hannah is a good character but has surrounded herself with awful people- her brother is a jerk, her best friend is vapid, her husband is keeping secrets. When they all go to a secluded cabin rumored to be haunted, with a big storm coming through, things don’t go as well as anticipated. Meanwhile, there’s an entire backstory of a seemingly unrelated character. And of course, it all comes together in the end, but this one just didn’t work for me.
I honestly had such high hopes for this book and BAM, it was just the half sister trying to kill her brother. And it almost seemed to convenient that only she died and the cops came in at a perfect moment. I did love the back story and loved how Henry fit into the story.. just wished it was more thriller than stated.
I did also listen to the audiobook version and it was good!
