I guessed the plot twist!!! Oh no! This book would have gotten a way higher rating had I not clued in to the ending by page 20. Maybe it’s a me problem.😂 I did enjoy how fast paced this one was. Some of the POVs I preferred over others. I think that’s pretty normal though. Even though I guessed the ending, I did think the twist was original and very different than typical thriller arcs. The setting was great too and made this a “cozy” read.

4.5 stars. I loved this novel, a twisty, fast-paced story, written in an easy to read style. Effectively told from several points of view that at first seem unrelated but which come together well as the plot unfolds. The story builds to an exciting ending and a great epilogue. There were one or two plot points which were not strictly speaking necessary but they did serve as useful red herrings and contributed to the atmosphere of the story.

As well as being a great thriller, this novel touches upon deeper themes of family - are they who we are related to or those we chose? Are our behaviours driven by genetics or environment? I read this in a day and a half and was engaged throughout. Really, really good!!

Thanks to Legend Press and Netgalley for this ARC. All opinions are my own.

Three couples rent a ritzy secluded cabin for the weekend in this suspenseful read from Lisa Unger. Mako and Hannah are siblings, and they go on a weekend retreat with their respective spouses, Hannah’s best friend Cricket, and Cricket’s boyfriend. The weekend should be relaxing- a private chef to make their meals, a hot tub, plenty of alcohol and illicit gummies. However, a storm rolls through and cuts off their access to the road out, the power goes out, and their weekend away becomes a nightmare.

This book started off as a slow burn- lots of background information, some flashbacks to an additional character who doesn’t tie in to the main story at first, lots of inner turmoil from Hannah about leaving her baby for the weekend. It definitely picked up speed in the middle and became hard to put down as I was trying to piece together the clues of who these people were and how it would all come together. While I did figure out parts of the ending, it was still suspenseful and kept me wanting to read, The concept was unique, and the atmosphere and setting of the book are phenomenal. I was creeped out just thinking of being in this home away from everything and everyone!

Thank you to NetGalley and Legend Press for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

I thought this was ok. There were aspects that I enjoyed. I just thought the plot moved a little slowly and the characters were unlikeable. I understand that's part of the point though. I did really like the ending though! I would recommend this to a friend.

I loved the premise for this book and was very excited to get a copy. I've not read anything by Lisa Unger before, so had no expectations getting in. The first chapters introduce a family: Hannah (the sister), Mako (the brother), their parents, Bruce (Hannah's husband) and Liza (Mako's wife) at a family holiday gathering. Hannah is a new mom dealing with the anxieties that come with being a new parent, Bruce is a workaholic programmer, Mako is a successful tech entrepreneur and Liza is a yoga influencer. The evening ends on ominous note when they all receive an unexpected Christmas gift: DNA tests.

Hannah, Bruce, Mako and Liza then go off an a fancy weekend holiday, all expenses paid by Mako's insistence. They are joined by Cricket, Hannah's party-girl friend/ex-girlfriend of Mako and her new boyfriend Joshua. The house is an impressive cabin, so secluded they are unable to receive cell signal. When the storm arrives, things start going wrong very quickly.

This had all the ingredients of what I typically enjoy in a thriller. However, I found it hard to get through as there were so many different character perspectives, several of them taking the reader away from what was going on in the cabin, and some flashbacks which I'm not sure were all really necessary to help propel the story. The ending tidied everything up okay with a somewhat unclear message about family and what we inherit. While I was very intrigued at the start, the middle and the ending were somewhat underwhelming. Overall though, I enjoyed the atmospheric setting most, and the characters (their lack of depth with exception of Hannah) the least.

Thanks Netgalley for a copy of this read in exchange for my honest review.

My first Lisa Unger read and I quite enjoyed it even though I can see how some people might find the reveal a bit absurd.

Multiple POVs and dual timeline kept me engaged and guessing what exactly is going on and who’s plotting what. Not all of them made sense to me at the end but maybe that’s the point to keep me guessing the whole time? Overall I thought this is an interesting thriller/mystery with some unexpected elements involved. And I prob will not do a mountain cabin vacay anytime soon

Great suspense novel with lots of twists and turns. Not sure who or why is creating all the chaos. Couldn’t put it down.

What this book does well is establish, lean into, and exploit familial roles. For some authors common tropes like the woman who dates her best friend’s brother are uninspired. I believed them here and wanted to see why and where they were going. I thought this story would be a slasher murder mystery but it’s really about genealogy and secrets that in combination are deadly.

The time jumps between 1997 and 2018 helped build suspense into discovering who the characters really are and what secrets they have been keeping. The killer’s motive was interesting and made this story entertaining and only mildly predictable. The resolution was loosely held together and I still have questions. There are some distracting components like the host’s illegal hobby (I don’t want to give too much away) and the property’s ghost story that has nothing to do with the story.

Thank you Legend Press & NetGalley for allowing me to read this ARC. We don’t choose our origins . We choose our present . This suspenseful, fast paced thriller is set around a secluded cabin in the woods, where 3 couples planned the perfect / relaxing getaway, but becomes far from that. This was a first time reading a Lisa Unger book, but won’t be the last. I sometimes have a hard time connecting with multiple povs/ multiple timelines, but this one kept my interest and strung me along to the very end while tying it up perfectly. It was the kind of atmospheric thriller trip I’ve been searching for. I really enjoyed the elements of what is considered our family and ups and downs of discovering our true origins as I tend to struggle with this in my everyday life. Highly recommend this book!

Three couples go on a weekend trip to recharge and bond, but nothing is ever as simple as it seems. As secrets start to come out and they find themselves in danger, only the truth can save them... but what's the truth? Will it be enough to keep them alive?

There were enough layers in this story to keep it interesting, but I didn't love it like I'd hoped. It wasn't bad, just not mind blowing or anything. The twists were reasonable, so at least there was that, but it was more about getting to the end of the story instead of constant page-turning to know how it would end.

CW: violence, injury detail/blood, sexual assault, rape, infidelity, miscarriage, pregnancy, gun violence, death

A fast paced, twist filled thriller written from multiple viewpoints. A couple of sub plots could have been removed, e.g the owner survelling his guests and the story could have been shorter. Otherwise a satisfying read.

One of my new favorite thrillers. I tend to like Unger's books, but this one was so smartly written and cleverly teased out that it flew by. I love that there wasn't one huge plot twist reveal that the reader had to be looking out for the whole time. Instead, crucial plot points and details were unveiled along the way, so it truly formed a whole story as opposed to what has become a trick of authors in this genre. To me, it was such a complete reading experience that it made the characters more sympathetic, more understandable, and more realistic. This will be a book that I buy confidently for friends and family.

Families are complicated things. A mysterious christmas origins test gift is the hidden subtle backdrop for this thrilling novel.

Three couple go on a luxury break to a secluded cabin. All are plagued by their iwn secrets and lies. A break than should be about good food. Hiking and reconnecting turns sour and dramatic in a big way quite quickly.

As other characters are introduced there is good character development as the past us interweven with the present.

A joy to read with unexpected twists and turns. You had to read on for the final reveal which was such a hook. The story focused on main characters but the interwoven supplementary characters created a mire powerful story.

New author for me, but I do have 2 of her other books on my shelf. Interesting premise…3 couples are on a weekend getaway and someone is out to get them. I found the characters mostly annoying and self centered, secretive (which did add to the story line). Dual storyline with Henry, who I enjoyed. This comes together at the end. Quite a few secondary characters, some of which I could have done without. Many characters to follow with tons of issues. The setting is enough to give you nightmares; over the top cabin, isolated deep in the woods, odd owner.

Overall is was an OK read for me, kept and held my attention. Slow build to the ending.

Thanks to Legend Press and NetGalley for this ARC. Opinion is mine alone.

I inhaled this book in two days. I was waiting hoping I would get selected to preview Lisa Unger's new book, Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six”. I absolutely love all of Lisa’s books.
I highly recommend this book. All of the characters were engaging. The plot has twists you won’t see coming. It is a great vacation read.
I received this galley from NetGalley.

Lisa Unger can always be counted on to offer a stellar story and this one is no different. It did begin a little slower than usual as we are meeting all the players at a family Christmas dinner. The story quickly picks up when we switch to the actual secluded cabin and meet the 6. From there we go on a journey reminiscent of an old-school 80's horror flick. I loved it! Creepy cabin, characters with secrets, running through the woods being chased by a mysterious killer........ all the fun horror movie cliches made new and fun again with a cool twist of the dark side of DNA/Ancestry researching. Believable, probably not, but get over it! This was a blast to read, and I felt it was a well-done locked-room type thriller. Keep them coming, Lisa Unger!

Solid 4 stars...creepy, twisty page turner. Worth the read!

Although none of the characters are at all likeable, it adds to storyline, well done.

Great book to read on a rainy day while cuddled up on the couch.

Lisa, Lisa, Lisa.....you did it again, girl.

At a surface level Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six is about three couples, away for a weekend, in a luxe cabin with a storm on the way -- both in and outside of the custom built house.

BUT because this is a Lisa Unger book, there's more to this story, and more to this entire plot. There's a larger story at play overall. The intersection of science and technology is a huge factor in this plot as is #MeToo and the meaning of family. I'm actually disappointed to see quite a few low rated reviews, it makes me feel that some didn't read beyond the first few chapters, to when everything started to fall into place.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read this book.

Three couples rent a luxury cabin in the woods for a weekend getaway in this gripping locked-room thriller. After all, what could be more relaxing than spending a weekend with friends and family in an isolated luxury cabin in the woods, complete with spectacular views, a hot tub and a personal chef. However, once they get there, things aren't quite what they pictured. The chef reveals that the house has a creepy history, a bad storm is brewing, cell service is out and all of the guests are hiding something. This perfect weekend is about to turn into a nightmare.

This book was SO good. I love locked-room thrillers... they are one of my favorite types of book, and this was definitely one of the best I have read. The story is told in multiple points of view. There are actually two plotlines going on at the same time: one is the cabin in the woods and the other involves someone Henry starting from when he was just a kid, moving from place to place with his single mom. The two plotlines converge towards the end. If you are a fan thillers, then you definitely need to check this one out!

OK so if I ignore all the obvious flaws, the book was decent enough. It keeps you guessing to an extent and I didn't find myself bored while reading it. It is an easy to read thriller.

The major downsides for me were the irritating main character and the sub plots that made little sense and contributed nothing to the overall story.

I didn't love the multiple view points in this book, it just didn't work.
