A weekend getaway in the secluded woods is exactly what 3 couples need. The eccentric business owner and his wife, the sister and her husband and the best friend/ex and her new boo sounds like a recipe for drama! In this drama filled mystery has you questioning if blood is thicker than water. As much as I enjoyed this book, I felt it was a little slow moving for me.

Thank you Netgalley for the copy of this book!

This book has two different stories going on, that are eventually woven together at the end. Mako, who has a boisterous personality, is married to Liza, a quiet woman with her own secrets, who doesn’t quite fit in with her husband’s family. Hannah is Mako’s younger sister, married to Bruce, and has cleaned up Mako’s misdoings over the years. Bruce has worked for Mako, but wants to get away from him, and is hiding the reasons from his wife. Finally, we meet Cricket, who is Hannah’s best friend, and Mako’s former girlfriend, who just can’t seem to let him go. Cricket has begun dating Joshua, whom no one knows much about. We also meet Trina, who seems to be watching this group of people, but the reason isn’t exactly clear as to why she’s doing so. Henry, whose past is a mystery, even to himself, is connected to Trina.

Mako has rented this huge house, out in the middle of nowhere, and it’s a seven hour drive from their home in Florida. The six people going include Mako, Liza, Hannah, Bruce, Cricket, and Joshua, are meant to spend a long weekend “unplugging” from their busy lives, and celebrating Hannah’s birthday. Hannah and Liza both get creepy vibes from the place, especially after their personal chef tells them about a man who killed his family on the same land on which this amazing house was built. Joshua disappears, supposedly to town, but that’s not at all where he’s at. He’s at the guest cabin, going through with a wild plan that Trina has come up with. In the end, Henry has discovered what Trina/Cat is doing, and attempts to save the six people at the secluded cabin.

I enjoyed this book, and liked how it kept me guessing. The one thing I wasn’t crazy about was the weird owner/caretaker, Bracken. I didn’t necessarily feel like his character was needed. He was a voyeur, with cameras in the showers, which is gross. But he does learn the error of his ways, so we see him taking the cameras down by the end of the book.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this book to others. It was a very enjoyable mystery, and I didn’t want to put it down.

Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six
Nothing like a little alliteration to set the mood and Lisa Unger is the master at evoking atmosphere. This mystery thriller has it all: severe weather, hidden cameras, characters with a past, cold crimes, and of course a secluded cabin in the woods.

Six people head out for a posh weekend retreat, expecting an indulgence of great food, drink, and company. (I think they were fooling themselves thinking there’d be yoga!) Instead of a relaxing holiday they experience events that change their lives for ever.

There are twists and turns and the occasional red herring along the way. At several points I struggled with ‘who is that now and how do they fit in?’

I enjoyed this book but it may not be for everyone. DM me for content warnings.

Absolutely brilliant from the start .Intricate personality flaws and a gripping storyline from the start. Twists and turns and surprises galore.

Lisa Unger is an auto-buy author for me and once again, she did not disappoint! Though this one started a bit slow, once it got young the twists and turns kept me guessing. Reading this book, at first, I thought there were 2 completely separate stories going bur piecing together how they coincide was part of the fun! This keeps you hooked until the end. Fun, quick, suspenseful read!

I thought this book started slightly slower than many books I read, but it was setting things up for when it the pace increased. There were twists I never saw coming. The characters seemed to have complicated relationships so when I thought I knew what was going to happen, there was a twist. I was going to save for a DNA test, but I'm having second thoughts after reading this!

SECLUDED CABIN SLEEPS SIX was a fun "locked-door" style mystery full of family secrets and a creepy setting.

Although I enjoyed the premise and believe that it had a lot of potential, it failed to hook me. I found the story at times to be slow, bloated and full of extraneous characters that were completely unlikable. Thankfully it was a quick read, but I felt underwhelmed when all the "pieces" came together.

This will not stop me from reading future books by Unger, as I've read and really enjoyed some of her previous publications. This one was just not "it" for me.

Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for my arc.

Lisa Unger does it again! This story will keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat the entire time. Highly recommend this one!

Super creepy and intense! Initially confused as it seemed like there were 2 separate stories being told, but once I started to suspect the connection, oh man, I couldn't read fast enough to find out how this was going to end - and that ending! It was totally different, but almost gave me Gone Girl kind of vibes. The combination of setting and building tension / suspense made this one of the creepiest books I've read in awhile - you don't really know who to trust and where you're headed. Highly recommend for fans of psychological thrillers!

4 isolated cabin stars

This is Lisa Unger’s twentieth book; she doesn’t seem to be slowing down! I’ve read at least four of her earlier titles and this one hooked me right in from the start. I read it in just about one sitting and even stayed up past my usual bedtime to finish.

We meet siblings Mako and Hannah, Mako has invited a group to an isolated luxury cabin for a weekend to relax and unwind. He’s the gaming company executive working hard to finish his latest game and Hannah is a new mom, and this is the first time she’s been away from her adorable young daughter.

There are three couples – Mako and his wife, Hannah and her husband, and lifelong friend Cricket with her new boyfriend. Mako has hired a private chef to cook for them, there’s a hot tub, hiking, and relaxing on tap. Sounds heavenly right?

It wouldn’t be much of a plot if that’s all there was to it though! Mako’s wife Liza is getting threatening text messages, Hannah feels like something is very off with her husband, and Cricket still harbors feelings for Mako. The group also feels like they are being watched all the time. There’s also a big storm headed their way that will likely wash out the roads.

The action really heats up as secrets and danger swirl around these six people and I couldn’t put this one down! If you were to offer a secluded cabin weekend to me right now I would say no way!

A well-paced read that may have had some over-the-top moments at the end, but good escapism fiction for me!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion. A secluded cabin, a family filled with secrets and an approaching storm… what could possibly go wrong? I enjoyed this book and its dark twists. The chapters were written from alternate points of view and the plot goes back and forth from the past to present day. While most of the characters weren’t like able and some of the story lines could have been fleshed out better, I found that they came together at the end to tell a compelling and addicting read.

Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six by Lisa Unger

Thank you to NetGalley, Legend Press and Lisa Unger for the opportunity to read this book.

We have a locked-room thriller in a secluded cabin in the woods where the wifi is wonky and there's almost no cellular reception and we have some DNA-testing kits from the Origins company.

I don’t want to tell you too much about this book. But we have 3 couples who are heading to this spectacular cabin for a weekend. They are supposed to go there to relax, eat good food and just enjoy the scenery. There is a big storm coming in but they hope it will pass them.

The weekend turns out not to be so relaxed as they thought. Secrets are about to get revealed and the chef of the house is telling ghost stories about the place. There is also someone lurking in the woods, someone who’s watching their every moves.

There are quite a lot of characters in this book as there are two story lines, the now and the past but it still got me hooked. I also like the DNA discussion to be very interesting.

I liked this book very much.

It has been some time since I last read a closed door thriller. I liked the premise, the tech company, the genetics component, and the friends/family traveling to the remote secluded cabin for time together and a break.

Then it got complicated and confusing. There were A LOT of characters in this story and it became difficult to track how one was tied to the other. Sometimes in the present, sometimes in the past across multiple characters, it was difficult to feel fully invested in anyone. The characters were hard to like, making it impossible to really cheer for anyone.

This story throws a lot at you, but in the end it’s about a family trying to reckon with their roots. Are there genetic markers that result in some people becoming monsters and not others? If there were and you could stop it, what lengths would you go to protect others?

I'll be honest, you had me at a new Lisa Unger book is now available! I love the author and the thrills she provides through her books. Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six will give you plenty of thrills and guesses at who is doing what, but you most likely will be wrong. The book opens at Christmas 2017 with a family celebrating. Hannah and Bruce are new parents to a nine month old daughter, Gigi and Hannah's brother, Mako is there with his wife Liza. As dinner is finished, the Dad, Leo says there's one more gift behind the tree. The gift was an Origins DNA test kit for everyone in the family. The weird thing is no one would admit to being the gift giver! Some said they were going to throw there's away, some were excited, and some wondered why anyone would buy this? Later that evening Mako starts teasing Hannah about a trip he has planned for them in June. He's paid for a luxurious getaway at a remote cabin with a personal chef, masseuse, and hot tub. Mako is paying for the entire trip as a birthday present for Hannah. Mako thinks Hannah might back out because she doesn't want to leave Gigi. The trip is for Hannah and Bruce, Mako and Liza, and Cricket and Joshua. Cricket has been best friends with Hannah since they were little and dated Mako off and on before he met Liza. An adults only weekend, so Gigi will be watched by Bruce's mom.

Once it's time to pack for the trip, Hannah has reservations about going. Bruce has been acting a bit distant and she doesn't want to leave Gigi. Luckily, she has an app on her cell phone that will show Gigi through cameras around the house. Hannah decides to go knowing she'll be able to see Gigi that way and she feels very confident in Bruce's mom. Mako and Liza are the first to arrive at the cabin. They can't get over how big it is and the beautiful views it has. There's also a guest house behind the main house if you had others coming. They don't plan on using anything but the main house which sleeps six. Bracken is the owner of the cabin and several others that are in the general area. He seems a bit off. What is his story and what is he hiding?

When all three couples arrive they settle in and start to relax. Unfortunately, Liza gets a terrible migraine upon arrival and feels very sick. She blames it on the IVF treatments that she's had as she and Mako want to have a child. She excuses herself at dinner and goes to lie down. As the chef and his assistant are preparing and serving the meal he tells them about the tragedy that occurred at a the cabin. A family had been murdered and some say they still see a ghost of the mom looking for the children.

The book is told from different timelines with Hannah, Cricket, and Mako as well as people you're not sure how they fit in named Trina, Henry, Piper, and Catrina. Bracken the owner of the cabin tells the group about a bad storm moving in. He assures them that even if the power goes out, the generator will kick in within a minute or two. The roads sometimes wash out and are unpassable, so he warns them to stay inside if it gets bad. They have his phone number to call in an emergency. What could go wrong, right? How well does Hannah know her husband, Bruce? He seems to hate her brother Mako even though he has worked with him before. Hannah begins to question how well she knows her brother Mako. Why is he flirting with Cricket when his wife is upstairs and Cricket's new boyfriend Joshua is at the cabin? Why does Joshua look so familiar to Hannah? He says they've never met!

This book will have you hooked and you'll enjoy every moment! I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. I rated it 5 stars and have already told friends and family to read it. I'd like to thank NetGalley and Legend Press for an advanced copy of Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six in exchange for a fair review.

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was super excited when I received the email I was approved for this arc, I couldn’t wait to get started. Once I did though it felt really slow. It took me longer to read than a typical book would. About two thirds in, the book did pick up and the story concept is clever and fascinating. The book is written from multiple perspectives which really helped with strong character building. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes slow-burn thrillers. 3.5/5 rounding to 4.

This was a thrilling novel; both the location and the actions of the characters were psychologically twisted. I really enjoyed the chapters from different character perspectives. We see the same events from alternating points of view which adds to the tension. Throughout the novel I was really interested in finding out how Henry’s story would intersect with the three couples that are at the secluded cabin. The chapters from the house owner’s perspective (Bracken) were a little confusing and took away from the main plot; I expected him to have a bigger reveal at the end so his chapters fell a little flat.
I love Unger’s writing, she draws you into the book so you can’t stop reading until you know how the ending plays out. As Unger says in her acknowledgements, only a really twisted writer (in the best way) would be on vacation with her family and see the seclusion as the prime location for a suspense novel!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

"Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six" is an entertaining thriller that keeps you guessing through to the end. This book is fast-paced and intelligently written and although the "characters are very flawed, it brings humanity and thus, compassion, to each of their storylines.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book, in exchange for an honest review.

A family get away. A secluded luxury cabin. What could go wrong?

Great thriller!
The little nuggets of info that were drip fed throughout the story which led to the reveal were very intriguing. For the life of me I couldn’t piece it all together, although I’m sure many others could! Really quite different to most other books of a similar nature.
I really enjoyed reading this one and would definitely recommend.

Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six and all 6 six harbor secrets...but which secret is big enough that someone wants to murder 1 or all 6 guests?!?! Lisa Unger will keep you questioning till the end! Who's unfaithful? Who's scamming? Who's in the other cabin on the property? What is the shady owner of the cabins capable of doing?

Unger builds a great cast of characters and you won't be able to put this book down till you have the answers to all these questions! I thought it was a great build up throughout, some things were predictable but there were plenty of surprises! This is my favorite Lisa Unger book to date and if you enjoy thrillers, this should definitely be added to your to be read pile!

Thoughts: thank you so much @netgalley and @parkrowbooks for the advanced copy which came out last week! I loved this one, it definitely made me think twice about booking an Airbnb for my next trip 😂the characters were crazy and the twists were all over the place with this one! It was super enjoyable! My only issue is that it was formatted strangely on net galley so it was kind of difficult to follow (chapters and pages ending mid page, giant spaces between some words, etc) but that was more of a ebook formatting issue than one of the author! I definitely want to read more by Lisa Unger, this was a very fun locked room mystery!
