Michael, his wife, sister, brother-in-law, ex girlfriend and her new boyfriend go to a beautiful cabin in Georgia to spend a few days. Michael (also called Mako) is a tech millionaire so no expense was spared. But when family and ex’s are all together, relaxing might not be what happens. A quick enjoyable read.
3.5 stars (because there were some parts that were a little dumb or unnecessary), but rounding up to 4 (because overall, I really rather enjoyed the story)!
It keeps you guessing, even though it’s a little predictable, about how everyone is ACTUALLY linked. You know that they are, but figuring out exactly how is what kept me turning the page. While the ending was a little too clean — BUT ALSO a bit messy in some aspects (i.e. why who did what they did, what some of the characters were even there for in the end, etc. - IYKYK, and if you don’t, then you just gotta read it to understand what I mean by saying it was both a clean AND messy ending) — it was still an entertaining one.
All in all, a pretty solid thriller/mystery from Lisa Unger and I look forward to reading more of her books! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Thank you @netgalley, @legendpress and @harperaudio for the written and audio ARC of Lisa Unger's latest book.
This was my first time reading/listening to a book and I'm here for it! I found myself gravitating more towards the audio format, but I think that's just because it was more fast paced.
I wouldn't say that I loved the narrator, but she didn't make me want to join the characters in the secluded cabin, so there is that.
I thought there was pretty good character development and the story had potential. The whole family meets in a secluded location with all their secrets and suspense can still be a solid read, even though a touch overused. However, once the mystery started to unravel here, it was too out there for me.
I'm not sure if this is Unger's style, so if you've read anything else by her, let me know.
Liked it, didn't love it.
Thank you NetGalley for letting me read this in exchange for an honest opinion. I’d give this book 3.75/5. It was a good, entertaining read. The whole book I kept wondering where the author was going with the different stories going on and I really liked how it all came together in the end. I’d recommend this book.
Sadly, this wasn’t for me.. There was just too much POVs and unlikeable, bland characters. I was intrigued in the beginning, but lost interest right away. The plot was underwhelming and not thrilling enough. Most of the characters here should have been cut out. Overall I did not enjoy it. It was messy and a bit boring and anticlimactic in my opinion.
Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six
By Lisa Unger
You’d think by the title it would be Ruth Ware meets Shari Lapena and in comes with a massive twist, Freida McFadden.
(Yes my fav thrill authors… imagine if they collaborated! 😱)
It had all the promise by the title, cover and blurb. Unfortunately there was was no follow through.
It took some weird turns, some side story that basically took over, and too many characters. I get the cabin sleeps six but when we have to know all 42 players, it’s hard.
⭐️⭐️/5
But the cover is nice!
I'm a big fan of groups in a remote location and mysterious deaths, so I was very excited to read this one.
In this case, there were 3 couples who go to a secluded cabin for a weekend getaway. Obviously, the relaxation doesn't go as planned, as someone is watching them.
I've had some mixed results with Lisa Unger's books and there were a few areas that dragged a little, but I definitely wanted to see the resolution, so I stuck with it and I'm glad I did. There were some fun surprises at the end.. Overall, it was a fun read.
Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six, by Lisa Unger, is a captivating, page-turning, locked room thriller that you won’t want to set down. The story is set at a remote, luxury cabin for a family get-away, at the insistence and generosity of the charismatic, well-to-do brother, Mako. Family members are reticent to attend, for various reasons, but family means a great deal and it’s always so hard to say no to Mako. But there are a lot of family secrets, and someone is forcing them into light with an agenda of their own!
This is a compelling novel, but there are admittedly, a lot of characters and two distinct plot lines to keep track of. There are a few plot holes that are left unfilled, but most things tie-together by the conclusion. Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six is a whirlwind of a story with lots twists, turns, surprises and explosive events or reveals, all interspersed amongst characters’ backstories. There are characters to repulse or frustrate you, and a smattering of fantastical, over-the-top elements that make for a wild ride. I think I got it all, mostly, but this thriller was entertaining, nonetheless.
Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six is the story of three couples who go on a getaway to a very secluded cabin in the middle of the woods for a weekend. The three couples have very interesting relationships to each other-ranging from family to friends to ex-lovers. Things at the cabin start out great, with a personal chef making them dinner, but quickly strange events begin happening.
I really enjoyed reading this newest thriller by Lisa Unger. It was a quick read, and kept me turning pages to find out what was going to happen next. I really enjoyed the complicated relationships between the characters.
I highly recommend this book if you like secluded, stuck in one place murder mysteries.
Thank you to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to read this book before it was published.
Three couples rent a luxury cabin in the woods for a weekend getaway to die for in this atmospheric and gripping locked-room thriller by New York Times bestselling author Lisa Unger.
What could be more restful, more restorative, than a weekend getaway with family and friends? Especially in an isolated luxury cabin in the woods, complete with spectacular views, a hot tub and a personal chef. The reviews are stellar.
But a deadly storm is brewing. The owner seems just a little too present. The chef reveals that the beautiful house has a spine-tingling history. And the guests have their own complicated pasts, with secrets that run blood deep. The perfect weekend is about to turn into a nightmare.
Really enjoyable read totally recommend
Thank you NetGalley and Legend Press
I just reviewed Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six by Lisa Unger. #SecludedCabinSleepsSix #NetGalley
Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six is a thriller about 6 couples made up of friends, family, and a new boyfriend, along with a watcher in the woods, and the landlord set at a remote cabin during a nasty storm. Everyone’s lives unravel as secrets are revealed.
The author does a great job of taking the time to introduce each character but because of that it took a long time to get interested in the story. I did enjoy how each chapter was from a different character’s point of view but it was hard to keep up with everyone’s idiosyncrasies and the caretaker of the property was completely unnecessary to the story. I was the most compelled by Henry’s chapters than Hannah’s POV who is established early on as the main narrator. Honestly, none of the characters are terribly likable. There were so many plot points that felt unnecessary or dragged out that the payoff at the end didn’t make it worth it. The climax of the story felt weak and rushed in comparison to the slow burn and overwhelming sins of each character leading up to the end.
Thank you to Legend Press for this ARC via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I was hoping for so much more from this book, but it just fell short. Although I finished the.book I had the plot line figured out when a certain character got introduced into the book and even though each chapter was from a different characters and different time line it didn’t fall into line until the last few chapters until it all caught up
I can’t say I warmed to any of the characters apart from Henry and west the rest of them I didnt care for. The ones you think would be nice and routing for had a dark secret and I can’t get my head around what they covered up. As for May, well I’m sorry you wouldn’t when you knew what a person did. Invite them to be with you and your child.
The suspense was not great and the whole ghost story line in it was pointless, and the last few chapters I wish I hadn’t read. As soon as it said my body getting higher and looking down I should have just put it away.
It wasn’t for my personal taste, a page turner, it didn’t leave me wanting more, if anything I just wanted to get it finished.
Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six by Lisa Unger is a very highly recommended locked-room thriller with a tension-filled secret that could be fatal.
Three couples are going to spend a weekend at a secluded luxury cabin in the North Georgia woods. Hannah and Bruce need a break but both accept the invitation with some trepidation. Hannah doesn't want to leave their baby daughter and Bruce, a workaholic, would feel better if they were paying for their share of the cabin. Hannah's older brother, Mako, has planned and paid for the whole weekend. One benefit for Hannah will be the opportunity to strengthen her connection with Liza, Mako's wife. The third couple is a long-time, close family friend, Cricket, and her new boyfriend, Joshua.
What could possibly go wrong. The cabin is a beautifully appointed accommodation, but is also extremely isolated. The owner and host, Bracken, seems a bit odd, and the private chef seems to delight in sharing the ghost stories associated with the area. The Wi-Fi is unreliable. To add to the anxiety and sense of impending danger is a real storm that is forecast to hit the area and will surely isolate them completely.
This is a compelling, complex novel that held my attention throughout. The tension rises slowly, doubts are introduced carefully, the atmosphere seems to become increasingly disturbing with every page. Unger has carefully plotted this narrative. It opens with a family gathering which sets in place the beginning of the tension and drama. Then this suspense is allowed to grow into fruition.
The narrative is told mainly through Hannah's point-of-view, but we also hear from Liza, Cricket, Bracken, and then three characters whose connection to this plot doesn't materialize immediately, mainly Henry, but also Trina, and Cat. The characters are all fully realized individuals and very different from each other.
The writing is excellent, intelligent, and absolutely riveting. Both main story lines, through Hannah's and Henry's points-of-view, are equally interesting, engrossing, and very different. Part of the appeal is trying to predict where, when, and how these story lines will connect and collide. When the direction becomes clear, it is gripping, twisty, and un-put-downable. This is a wonderfully executed locked-room thriller.

The review will be published on Barnes & Noble, Google Books, and Amazon.
This book was OK but the way the chapters jumped around made it hard to follow at times. The plot was good a bit predictable but held my attention. The ending was a bit drawn out. All in all a good story worth reading.
Thriller set in secluded cabin in woods with three couples. Kept me guessing until the end. Author is very descriptive and makes you feel on edge not knowing what is going to happen next. Enjoyed it !
My thanks to Legend Press, Lisa Unger and Netgalley.
I'll admit that this story had one convoluted storyline, but it was entertaining as hell!
I've not read much from Unger, but what I've read, I've really enjoyed.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. It was one of my highly anticipated releases and was thrilled to finally be approved! The thing is…I’m just not sold on it.
Don’t get me wrong, this is a fine book. There’s plenty of mystery but I feel like the conclusion became obvious very quickly and this really took away from any “wow” or “shock” factor that could have been present at the end.
It’s definitely a whole mess, which is good for books of this type. You don’t want a clean cut thriller, you want a mess. While it does produce the mess, I felt like it told me the ending - and it did it early - which made it feel super long and harder to really connect to anyone.
I don’t know. I think I’m just disappointed. I still recommend it, it’s more than readable but I won’t be rushing out to add it to my physical collection.
⭐️⭐️⭐️
The premise of this book was so interesting. 3 couples rent a cabin in the woods for a luxurious getaway. The cabin is isolated with spotty wi-fi. The cabin's location also has an ominous history. Everyone is keeping secrets which turns this relaxing weekend into a nightmare. The plot and setting are extremely creepy.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of POV's to keep track of, some of them that don't really make sense. All of them have secrets which make them extremely unlikable, so it's hard to really care if any of these characters die. This author is a little hit and miss with me, and this one just didn't work IMO.
This is hands down my favorite Lisa Unger novel yet!
I am a sucker for locked room mystery.
I will say this plot was numerous overly done plots all mixed into 1. This could have been flop but I think it actually worked really well for this book. I was enthralled with each of the 6 locked in the cabin. I love a good family drama. Tell me all the secrets.
And boy oh boy, this book had a lot of secrets.
I am also FASCINATED by the new DNA technology coming out. Finding serial killers and long lost siblings. Like WHAT!
From start to finish Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six was thrilling and suspenseful I loved the multiple plots which had me guessing the whole way. The setting was meant to be peaceful but it had a creepy feel through the entire story. I definitely didn’t see the ending coming until the very end. I loved it. I can't wait to read more books by this author - this was the first one I have read.
