Thank you Netgalley, Legend Press, and Lisa Unger for allowing me to read an Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six for an honest review.

I have had Lisa Unger on my TBR author list for a while. So obviously, I was very excited and grateful to be selected to read and review this book.

Overall, this is a good book but simultaneously it was very hit or miss for me. The beginning was slow and steady with the build up for a great intro to two interlocking stories. The middle of the book lost my interest but it piqued again about 75% of the way through. The interlocking stories and large number of character voices kept me confused at times although I do feel like the end of the book wrapped up the interlocking stories neatly.

The setting for the book mostly takes place at a remote luxury cabin in the woods which sets up the story to be an eerie and creepy thriller. However, I feel like the setting ends up being one of disfunction and family turmoil that includes drinking, drugs, and flashbacks to alleged sexual assault.

Three couples (Mako and his wife Liza, Hannah and her husband Bruce, and Cricket and her new boyfriend Josh) plan a getaway at a secluded luxury cabin with a highly rated rental host, a private chef, hot tub, the whole works. They are very much looking forward to catching up and relaxing together. Mako and Hannah are siblings. Cricket is Hannah’s best friend and Mako’s ex-girlfriend.

The December prior to the trip, someone drops off packages for Hannah and Mako containing DNA kits. The kits are labeled from Santa and their family members swear that they know nothing about the gifts. Hannah throws her test in the trash but Mako submits his. Who is Santa?

On the drive to the cabin, the couples learn about killings that have taken place in the woods and the ghosts/spirits that are seen haunting the land. They become skeptical of the property host (who is spying on them with cameras planted throughout the rental).

The true skepticism should be placed with knowing who your family is and how you identify and define family - whether by blood or choice. Family values change and unravel as does the judgment and acceptance of past decisions and actions.

Regardless of how the characters define family, the pre-existing alliances must work together to defend one another and make it home safely.

I plan to give Lisa Unger’s additional works a whirl moving forward!

I loved this secluded cabin setting.

At first it took awhile to understand as there were alot of characters and each one are different.

They were all not nice people except maybe for 2 of them but I wouldn’t say they were completely good either, but I was interested enough to keep reading about them.

Surprisingly, this book isn’t at all what I thought it would be and I’m glad I went in blind and would recommend that others do too.

It’s a super enjoyable thriller and I got through it in one sitting.

Highly recommend

I have read other books by this author and enjoyed them. However , I saw a trigger of animal abuse and did not even start the book. I received an advance copy from Net Galley and I apologize for not being able to read it.

This book I thought was a little slow at the beginning. You really had to pay attention cause it jumps around alot.from character to character. It was hard to keep track.

I heard alot of good things about this book so that's why I wanted to read it.

Thank you net gallery for giving me this opportunity to read it.

Creepy setting and lots of buried issues in this mix of characters!!

There are quite a variety of characters and the storyline bounces from past to present so pay attention, lest you may lose track easily. The lack of internet connection, the imminent major storm, and the creepy cabin owner and to the anxiety of the motley crew of family on this “vacation/getaway.”

I give this one a solid four and will add that it could have been a five had the characters been a little more developed and not so much left for the imagination.

I am a sucker for a locked-room mystery and Unger's Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six didn't disappoint. My momma-bear heart truly felt for Hannah and the fear she experienced. As a reader, I was constantly weighing the sins of the victims against their actions and consequences.
I loved the setting of the remote mountains. Beautiful to the eye but deadly when it came to unpredictable weather and remote access. The mixture of likable and unlikable characters was also gripping. My favorite part was how Henry's story tied in with all the other characters. His childlike innocence and Hannah's motherly fierceness were so relatable.

2.5 Stars rounding up to 3 Stars.
Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six follows three couples who stay at a luxurious rental cabin in the remote woods. Hannah hopes for a relaxing first trip without her child and with her husband, brother, sister-in-law, best friend, and her best friend's mysterious new boyfriend. Their weekend quickly starts to turn from relaxing to creepy and from creepy to a nightmare.
Overall I liked the idea of this book. The stranded up at a cabin setting, the secrets hidden amongst the six, and the character dynamics seemed right up my alley. Unfortunately, I felt like the first third of the book was paced really slowly, then the middle third build up was better, and then the final third seemed rushed to a finish. The number of characters and side plots seemed to be a bit much to keep track of, even when they did converge.
Overall I had high hopes for this and really was looking forward to a spooky creepy cabin thriller. I will say if you're a fan of trying to piece together who belongs where and more of a mystery with a touch of a thriller, this could be right up your alley!

I enjoyed this book. Lots of twists and turns that went in ways that I was not expecting. Lots of characters, so I had to reread at timed to keep all the characters straight, but the plot was good overall.

Family comes in all shapes, sizes, and dimensions. A brother and sister along with their spouses and friends find what they believe will be a restful respite in a secluded resort.
Not surprisingly, it’s anything but restful. Reverberations haunt the group as their secrets are revealed, some more egregious and stark than others,
I liked all the intrigue, especially the DNA, sperm donor angle, which is endlessly fascinating.
I was kept on the edge of seat, ripping through the pages, wondering what new revelation would surface.
We are related by blood to family, but inclusion can cast a wide net for others to be considered family as well.

What can go wrong when you rent a cabin with your friends? The cabin is furnished and even has a private chef! Sounds wonderful, but the trip didn’t turn out as they expected in this twisty thriller! The book kept my interest and I wanted to know what was going on! Is someone going to die? Get hurt? Will they ever make it home? Wow!

A weekend trip to a secluded cabin does not go the way anyone planned. Hannah's brother Mako plans a trip for them and their spouses plus Hannah's best friend and her boyfriend. The cabin owner is a creeper who has cameras in all the rooms and the showers. Hannah's husband Bruce wants to quit his job with Mako. Hannah does not want to leave her baby Gigi. This is not the relaxing trip they had all wanted. Not by a long shot. There is someone watching them with her own sinister plan.

There is also a story about DNA and finding your biological family. It got a bit confusing to me with all the different narrators. I had to stop and see just who they were again. Does nature beat nurture? Do we overlook the bad sides of the ones we love? Or do we take things into our own hands?

I think I would have enjoyed it a bit more with less characters but still a decent read.

Hooked from the first chapter. It has you trying to guess what's coming whilst leading you through a couple of red heron moments strategically placed. I felt like I really got to know the characters and their relationships between each other although some remained more of a mystery until later on in the book. Thoroughly enjoyable. Will be reading more from this authour!

I love Lisa Unger books. She takes culturally relevant phenomena and twists a narrative that is sinister and compelling. This was one of her best- complex characters with fatal flaws that all catch up with the group in the end.

This book explores nature versus nurture through sibling relationships, dark secrets, and what it means to defend the people that you love.

This book was surprising in how twisty it was. I didn't quite get how the two storylines would merge but when they did...wow. It took place in an area similar to ones I've been to in Dahlonega/Roswell, so I could picture it really well. This book could totally be made into a movie. Well done.

Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six follows three couples who go to a remote luxury cabin right when a storm is getting ready to hit. The storm rolls in and the power goes out. The three couples suddenly find out they are not alone. A killer is among them in the cabin. You find out that each person is holding onto onto a secret that eventually unravels.

The story has multiple POV’s every chapter being from a different characters perspective. However, midway through you start to get characters that aren’t in the cabin. It begins to have two different stories being told that eventually wrap up into one in the end. I found it a bit confusing and hard to follow at times. I was hoping for the big moment in the end to blow me away but it did not unfortunately. The ending was good but a bit underwhelming, leaving the whole book on the underwhelming side.

My first Lisa Unger novel was a complete thrill from start to finish! I'm not going to lie, sometimes I had to read it only in the daytime because the writing was just a little to realistic 😅🙈
Hannah and Mako are inseparable siblings. Even as they age and begin their own families nothing seems to come between them. Mako is now running a successful business, married to his wife, and has way too much money on his hands. What better way to spend that money than by renting a cabin for you and 5 other guests?
Things seem too good to be true....and then someone goes missing, the power goes out, a storm approaches, and an additional guest shows up.
Catch Lisa Unger's newest novel available tomorrow!!

I really enjoyed this book. It grabbed me from the very beginning. You could tell that a lot of the characters had stuff to hide but you had no idea what was really coming. There were a lot of storylines and subplots woven into this story and while the author did a good job connecting everything at the end there was a lot to keep track of and some of the characters got lost. For example I would have enjoyed a deeper dive into Alice's story. I enjoyed the ending but I felt like the author had two ideas in mind and instead of picking one she decided to join them so it was a bit confusing and disjointed.
Overall I enjoyed this book and I would recommend it to others

I wanted to love this book but I barely liked it. The first 40% or so was a total slog. Nothing happened. Nothing! And there were so many characters being introduced I struggled to keep it all straight. By the second half I was bored and tired and yet the story picked up. It picked up too much. So much was happening and it felt rushed. I enjoyed the action, drama, and twists, but I wish it hadn't all been crammed together at the end. This manuscript was also messy making it difficult to read.

I really hope these issues are all ironed out before publication because this story is intriguing and has great potential to be a good mystery thriller.

This book left me wanting a little more. The first half felt so slow with nothing really happening. Definitely way more action in the second half but it felt rushed! The multiple character POVs felt confusing since they didn’t converge til late in the book. It had a lot of promise and a great setting, but overall this was just ok for me.

“This place is epic. You’re gonna die.”

I felt like the first Christmas chapter was so disjointed from the rest of the book. I knew there would be a callback and it was relevant, but it just seemed like it was thrown in there. I’m all for multiple POVs, but I found it confusing how it jumped around so much . Once I got my bearings, it was fine, but I felt like there was A LOT of characters to keep track of and with timelines/POVs constantly changing- it got muddy. A few times, I had to go back and try to grasp what was even happening and I found myself not even trying to figure out how it would end because I needed to focus on the present chapter. There is a lot of moral topics touched upon here and I particularly liked the moral quandary of protecting your family vs, doing what’s right. Also, your biological family vs the family we choose. I found myself having to be in the right mind frame to read this book and I definitely couldn't be sleepy or I wouldn't understand what was going on and have to reread. All in all - it is a solid book if you can focus through it !
