The Maiden & The Unseen offers a unique take on the Hades and Persephone myth, blending humor, romance, and plenty of smut with a moderate plot. Persephone grows into her confidence, while Hades is the powerful, mysterious MMC we crave. Zeus is portrayed as a figurehead, with Hades pulling the strings behind the Olympians, and Persephone is refreshingly depicted as a brunette. The supporting characters add depth, though some interesting ones disappear without explanation.

However, the story leans too heavily on the physical side of the relationship, instead of making the plot more fleshed out. Regardless, it's an overall enjoyable and light read, one I'd recommend if you like romance and fantasy.

Absolutely love this retelling of Hades and Persephone. When the gods are allowed to mingle with humans, Hades finds himself in charge of them somehow. Persephone has been in the human realm already too, and they've both got quite an adventure coming for them.

[This is a combined series review.]

It took me forever and a day to read this series-- and I was mistaken. I wish I'd read this sooner. I really enjoyed this one!

Also, I apologize that my review references "The Other Series" so heavily, but it colored my reading experience with *this* series, and made it better in the end.

Unfortunately, before I started this series, I tried reading a *very popular trad series with a similar premise* that I ended up disliking so badly that book 1 was a DNF, It completely colored my experience with these specific elements. I did not want to try anything else. However, this series turned out to be everything I had wanted That Other Series to be, and nothing like what had disliked.

By contrasts, in this series the characters read adult and mature in their behavior-- so important to me as a reader! (And I don't mean spice-wise, though that was satisfying.) The premise felt believable and engaging enough that I was willing to "go with it". (Ancient gods, but modern world, often a hard sell for reader me.) The plot was intriguing and the way the various relationships developed kept me reading all the way through the three books. As I said before, I really enjoyed it, all of them. So to the authors a heartfelt *thank you* for giving back to this reader a little something that an unsatisfying book had taken away. <3

Dark, sexy, gripping!

Look, I do go mad for every retelling of hades and Persephone but this slapped so good. I loved Persephone so much in particular and really was charmed by her personality.

I thought this book would be right up my alley since I'm a fan of romantasy and myth retellings but I just couldn't get into and dnf'd at 20%.

This was an easy read! It was a little lacking on character and plot development but if you’re looking for a smutty Hades/Persephone retelling then you’ll like this book.

Sometimes, you just need a good, smutty Hades & Persephone retelling to shake things up.

Was this the best book I’ve ever read? No. But it was fun & sexy & entertaining. And sometimes you need that.

Make no mistake, a good majority of this book was smut, but I still enjoyed it, and I was invested enough to continue the series.

I don’t have a whole lot to say about this one other than I had a great time reading this, and it gave me the exact escape I needed during a stressful week. Definitely consider this if you need a palate cleanser!

Thank you to NetGalley and the authors for the free digital ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts & opinions here are my own.

'God of the Dead. King of the Underworld. The Unseen. The Renowned...The Glorified Babysitter'

I love when I have access to a complete series 😅 cause it means I don't have to wait for the next book to come out.

These books were enjoyable enough. It felt familiar, as there have recently been many similar experiences. But that train of thought aside, I think it still was an enjoyable read.

If you are a fan of Greek myths and enjoy a good retelling. Than this is a decent book to delve into.

3/5

There was far more smut than plot or character development. So if you are looking for something spicy with a hint of Greek mythology, this may be for you.

Not a fan of the smut, but I am curious about where the story is going, so I will read the next installment in the series, but overall I was not impressed with this one.

A hades & Persephone retelling is always a winner. I enjoyed the modern day setting of this story seeing the gods within todays human world. There is a lot of spice and I was here for it. The steamy connection was intense and had me tanning myself a lot.

Read this book! Do not miss it the pace, the romance absolutely burned the pages. Such a good and imo quick read. I wish I could read it again for the first time! My one and only pet peeve was the constant doubt in each other.

The Maiden and the Unseen by Jeanette Rose and Alexis Rune is an electrifying modern retelling of the classic Hades and Persephone myth, infused with the steam and drama of a billionaire office romance. Told from dual perspectives, the story takes us on a rollercoaster ride as Persephone, after discovering her bank accounts drained, confronts Hades, the god managing the finances of all other gods. What follows is a fiery office romance that will leave readers breathless.

The novel cleverly intertwines the fated mates trope with the idea that Persephone is the true ruler of the Underworld, a theme that has become a favorite in recent retellings. The dynamic between Hades, with his shadow magic, and Persephone, with her vine magic, is both playful and intense, adding a supernatural layer to their budding romance.

From the moment they meet, there’s an undeniable chemistry between them. Hades is initially terrified of the prophecy surrounding Persephone, the Goddess of Spring, while Persephone herself is torn between her casual relationship with another man and her irresistible attraction to Hades. This tension, coupled with the taboo of their boss-employee relationship, ramps up the spice factor, making their office trysts nothing short of scorching.

One of the standout features of this book is the humor, particularly in Hades' inner dialogue. His self-deprecating "Hades, God of (insert ridiculous title here)" bits are hilarious, and his shadow hands add an unexpected but thrilling element to their interactions. Despite the humor, there's a depth to Hades' character as he grapples with the secrets he must keep from Persephone, which clearly torments him.

While the book is packed with heat and humor, it also leaves readers hanging with a cliffhanger that promises even more wild twists in the future. Although characters like Helios and Mellie make a strong impression, their absence in the latter half is noticeable, leaving fans eagerly anticipating a potential spin-off or follow-up.

Overall, The Maiden and the Unseen is a must-read for fans of Greek mythology who enjoy their stories with a generous dose of spice. The chemistry between Hades and Persephone is off the charts, making this one of the most captivating retellings out there. With a solid plot, quick-paced chapters, and a cliffhanger that leaves you craving more, this book is a delightful addition to the Hades and Persephone lore. Four stars for the story and an extra nod for the spice level that truly sizzles!
