Hades/Persephone retelling- yes please!
This was a nice, unique take on their story. I love how Persephone is so stubborn, and refuses to budge against her mother. She is strong and resilient and I just wish she didn’t have to hide how powerful she really is. Mellie is hilarious and I definitely need friends like her (especially after Helios lol). It was very sweet of Persephone to befriend her. Of course Hades is amazing. 🖤🖤🖤 we only get snippets of Hakate and the three fates but they all sound amazing and powerful. (GIRL POWER)
I was enjoying the story (sexual tension galore!), but once they got together officially, it sort of fell apart for me. Persephone became this whiny, irritating goddess. She would take Hades just used towel from him to use and then throw a temper tantrum because he didn’t understand why she didn’t grab a new one. And Hades didn’t help much either. He couldn’t physically tell her something but instead of being honest and saying that, he tried to hide it. So I didn’t enjoy the last bit too much. I am excited to see how the Underworld is so hopefully we shall see a 2nd book on the way!
All in all, a good rendition of this classic tale.
The spice was epic. The romance was great and I enjoyed the modern take on Hades/Persephone. Fun twists and turns. It would have been 4 stars, but I really don't like even the semblance of cheating, so that really threw me out of the story each time. If the two main characters have gotten to the point of physical contact, I find it gross when they're still with other people.
2.5 stars (for now!) - I need to re-read this and see if my feelings change because I'm still very sick and on sick drugs, but! I really loved the concept and retellings will always capture my attention, no matter what. I enjoyed the fact that the characters weren't perfect, it's just that they didn't necessarily super endear me to them enough to care about their journey. At some points, Persephone was almost unlikable for me? The side characters, however, were super enjoyable and I want to know them better!
But I am interested to see where book 2 takes the cliffhanger! I'm hopeful that more mythology will unravel there and we will get to experience a really neat and new-to-us setting!
Review currently up on goodreads and a full one will hit my blog after I re-read.
Once, I read the summary I was immediately intrigued when I found out it was a modern retelling of Hades and Persephone. When I started reading I couldn’t put it down the tension was palpable and the spice was really good. I can’t wait for the next book I need it asap
I’ll take Greek mythology in a contemporary world any day of the week. And if it is Hades and Persephone’s story, even more so! Love the twist the author did on their story, the chemistry between them is scorching hot! Lots of spicy scenes and what a cliffhanger! I need the next book like yesterday!
This book intrigued me as soon as I saw it. I usually absolutely love greek mythology retellings. Although I did enjoy this one it wasn't a new favorite for me. I didn't love all of the smut but that is just my personal preference and I know a lot of readers will really enjoy that aspect. I like how unique this retelling was and all the surprising twists that were involved. overall a good read and I am very intrigued by the ending so I will most likely be picking up the sequal.
“You going to come, my spring?”
Holy hot Hades. The spice in this book was on fire. Not only could Hades and his spring not keep their hands off each other, the banter and inner monologue only made their connection burn brighter.
I adored reading a Hades that had some doubts about himself. Typically in a Hades and Persephone retelling Hades is all strong, entitled God who knows what he wants and doesn’t take no for an answer, but in Jeanette Rose & Alexis Rune’s beautiful retelling our Hades has some insecurities and it was refreshing to read.
While there have been many retelling of the fated lovers stories this is truly one that you have to read. I couldn’t put it down!
Let's talk about The Maiden & The Unseen by Jeanette Rose and Alexis Rune.
First of all I want to say thank you to Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
But let's go! What's this book?
- adult romanmce
- Hades and Persephone retelling
- modern setting (paranormal)
- forced proximity
- double POV
-spicy (it's a big part of the book so)
A touch of Darkness meets Neon Gods, and I know the authors read Sarah J Maas.
Hades and Persephone end up working in the same building (CLEARLY) owned by the first one, since Persephone apparently ends up bankrupt after paying her taxes to Hades, who hires her in order not to feel guilty (puahhahah), without realizing who enter the door of his house. Clearly the line of the prophecy of the couple bounded for the eternity (adore) is maintained and therefore it is all a sexual tension.
The cover has misled me a bit, because I didn't expect so much spicy given the type of graphics!
Another thing I was surprised and believed (as I went to Goodreads to check before requesting it) is that this book is not standalone as I thought it would be, but part of a saga. How did you get there, you say? Well, I was (I thought I was) almost at the end, I wanted to turn the chapter but the kindle was not going on! Well, crazy ending.
So? I always like to read Hades and Persephone retelling. The book was not something exceptional for me, but is not a big thing. The plot is not exceptional, it could have been more courageous, newer .... The romance is very basic as in all the retelling of Hades and Persephone. Here Hades falls in love in five seconds and immediately becomes * my queen *, malewife material, really. For the rest it is without too many shots of scenes, so much so that at almost over half I was wondering why there hadn't been one yet? I would certainly have liked to have seen more tension before the actual romance, because personally I find it a lot more fun and it makes everything more beautiful afterwards.
So why did I give it three stars? i was ADDICTED You know when you start that book AND YOU CAN'T PUI IT DOWN The romance go fast, sometimes too much. Short chapters, but it flows like a marvel and you absolutely want to continue! All this elements helped!
Surely I recommend it for who want to have a quiet reading, disconnect, and also enjoyed themshelf because there are parts that are surreal (I laughed a lot). For example? When Hades downloads Tinder. Did I say* m I really reading Hades downloading Tinder?*
It is definitely not an innovative book, the plot is based on romance which is also very physical, there are many, many, many spicy scenes (even too many) so I absolutely would not recommend it to those who don't like all this!
I would certainly have preferred a slightly shorter book, because it is really long, however, even here, I would like to emphasize that, despite this, it flows like a marvel.
A reading that is cute, simple, sure to take your head off the real world!
Giving this book a solid 3.5/ 5
And a major thank you to netgalley for the opportunity to read it.
I am an absolute sucker for a Hades and Persephone retelling so when my eye caught this I was absolutely ready to devour this book
This a a great dark and spicy romance for their story and involves an amazing dual P.O.V
It gave a wonderful insight to Hades and Persephone while modernising their whole romance. Unfortunate I feel like it was lacking in plot. Still I did enjoy it in the ways of how Hades evolved and thought it was pretty interesting to see the fates the way they were portrayed.
Thanks again for giving me the opportunities to read it!
3.5 stars
If you’re looking for a really spicy Hades and Persephone retelling then this for you! I didn’t realize how spicy it’d be going into to it and it’s real spicy! Which didn’t bother me. But it might bother others so just be warned lol. I did enjoy the storyline and it was interesting. *Thank you NetGalley for the ARC*
I'm always up for a Hades/Persephone retelling, but so many miss the mark by ignoring the storytelling elements needed to differentiate their retelling from others. However, this version of the story did a fantastic job of setting up the individual characters and world, which allowed me to enjoy the build up of one my favorite literary pairs, with some fantastic spice thrown in for good measure. I'm eagerly awaiting the next story in this series, and I can't wait until Demeter shows up to fuck some shit up.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the advanced read copy.
I am a sucker for a good Hades and Persephone retelling and the Maiden and the Unseen checks all of the boxes for me. Set in the modern world, I was completely enthralled with their interactions and love the inclusion of texting and instant messaging on company computers.
I loved how seamlessly their powers seemed to quietly fit into the modern mortal world. Throughout I felt like the authors really captured the feelings and actions of gods trying to blend in with the human world.
The spice was very well written and plentiful but I felt it had the right amount to not overwhelm the story or prevent characters from developing outside of the spice.
I’m hoping we get more of Helios, Mellie, and other gods in the next book because I did miss them in the second half. I’m excited to see where the story goes next and would highly recommend this book.
Where is the second part?!!! I need it right now!! Omg, the way Hades grew on me. I love his vulnerability
Everything in this book gave. I can't wait to read the next book and see Persephone grow into her own
This was very intriguing and so addictive.
It's obviously loosely based on Hades and
Persephone's story. It has Greek God's, fated
mates, lot's of hot sexy times, and I'm so here
for it. Loved the push and pull between them,
it was definitely worth the wait.
As you get further into the book you get to meet
more(side) characters, and their involvement,
wether they're good or badies. I enjoyed the character
development and chemistry. I'm hoping to see a lot
more of the characters mentioned throughout the book.
Love the cliffhanger, wasn't expecting it quite like that.
Can't wait for the next book💛.
Oh. My. Goodness. HOW DARE THAT CLIFFHANGER ENDING! Okay as someone who is obsessed with Greek mythology retellings, The Maiden & The Unseen did not let me know. And y'all.... it is SPICY! Wow. And modern. The integration of gods and goddesses into the modern world is fun. I cannot wait for this series to continue!
Thank you Netgalley for this arc.
This was a nice Hades and Persephone retelling! A dark spicy one that is.
I enjoyed the characters and their personalities. They both had great traits.
I loved the tension, passion, and longing in this book. And let's not even talk about the spice cause hot damnnnn.
I wish we had a little more plot, maybe more interactions with different gods and goddesses. I feel like Helios and Mellie disappeared from the story completely. Persephone's mother was a threat but we didn't really get a direct impact.
I would have loved a bit more back and forth with the Underworld. More tension or impending doom.
I do have to say that the twist on one of the characters, won't name the one, was really interesting! Especially his introduction to the story. Very intriguing.
Thank you to the publisher for the ARC, unfortunately, this book just wasn’t for me. The characters were too unlikeable. Sorry.
A VERY modern day version of Hades and Persephone.
The spice content and amount was great, the history and lore was also good and not boring like I was being lectured especially when I've read so many of these heads and persephone books now 😂
It was good.... Something was missing for me but I don't know what? Maybe it was because it was set super modern compared to others? I'm not sure. I just can't put my finger on what was missing for a 5 star review.
This book is definitely a decent book. It’s just not for me.
I’m not a fan of the present tense first perspective but I also wasn’t a fan of the writing style. But that’s just a personal preference so don’t let this stop you from giving this book a try.
The Greek Gods have descended from Olympus and are living among us. When Persephone, the Goddess of Spring, comes to the attention of Hades, God of the Dead, everything changes as they are drawn together.
I loved the chemistry between Persephone and Hades, and the hint of mystery throughout the as questions were raised. The romance was sexy and there was a touch of humour to make this a really outstanding read!
I received a copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
