Another wonderful title in this lovely series.
I loved discovering the story of Dwayne, I didn’t know he had such a family background and that he was an athlete.
I appreciate the part about boys asking for help and have the braveness to open up to others when struggling. A great lesson for the little ones (and for the adults).
Brilliant illustrations as usual! Bravo.
first of all, thank you once again to Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara, Frances Lincoln Children's Books, and Netgalley for another book from this wonderful collection.
I didn't know much about The Rock but this is such a good book for any child, especially boys, to look up to. that you can struggle, fail at your first plan, and still make a wonderful career and life for yourself!
this is why I love this collection, so uplifting.
Myself and my 7 year old (will refer to him as RJ) are massive fans of the ‘Little People, Big Dreams’ book series’. So I couldn’t wait to get access to this one so could read them together.
True to form, these books were beautifully illustrated, told great stories of remarkable people and left lots to talk about and discuss afterwards.
Review from RJ -
‘I thought it was very good. I liked the bits about him exercising. I liked the pictures, especially the ones when he was little. The bits where he talked about being brave were very good.’
Another wonderful addition to the series and one we will definitely be purchasing for our collection!
I absolutely adore Dwayne Johnson so when I saw this book I immediately requested it! It's perfect for kids, tweens, and adults! It's got adorable pictures that are soft and child friendly. The color palette is soft so it's not in your face or overwhelming. I love that it goes back and gives you his childhood and growing up stages before he was famous. It's done more in a story like way which engages young readers that I really appreciate! It's a fantastic first look into how The Rock came to be! I'm in love with this series and will be looking it up to add to our library!
I love the Little People, BIG DREAMS series so much! This one was definitely a hit! I loved learning about Dwayne Johnson! Thank you Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books for this ARC!
My kids love the Rock, so reading this story about how he grew up, they loved it.
Beautiful pictures, and fun to read. I will definitely be buying this book for my kids and daycare kids.
Another fun one from the LPBD series, this time featuring Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson. He seems like such a wholesome guy. I didn't know that he came from a line of wrestlers! I'm sure kids will love this too and as always these are great additions to any home or school library!
Thanks to netgalley for a free copy in exchange for an honest review!
Dwayne?????? I had no idea. There are some celebrities you just get cinnamon roll vibes from without knowing their history, but knowing it now, I can enjoy The Rock's work even more. This is a picture book that teaches kids that strength isn't always physical. What a king. (Speaking of which, the Scorpion King illustration is absolutely precious - great job on the artwork, Lirios Bou.)
Little People, Big Dreams hits is out of the park with the bio on Dwayne Johnson. The illustrations match the text beautifully as they share the story of how you can't let defeat keep you from trying again. So many great positive lessons that can be learned from his story.
Dwayne Johnson is another lovely book by Little People, Big Dreams.
This book is an interesting overview into The Rocks early years and the beginning of his career.
If your little one is a fan of Moana then this is the book for you! My 7yr old was fascinated to find The Rock was a wrestler before he was the voice of Maui- or the tooth fairy!
We all loved the bright colours and bold graphics used in the story. I feel the artwork could have been a little more realistic as my children didn't recognise who he was until the images in the timeline.
Their favourite part like always was the time line!
This would be another fantastic gift for a child in your life.
I was gifted a digital copy of Dwayne Johnson by Netgalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.
This book took an unexpected path and I really liked it! The story was very frank about the challenges Dwayne Johnson has overcome, like a childhood filled with lots of moves and financial instability and disappointments in his sports careers. There's a notably good depiction of depression that is appropriate for pre-K readers.
The overarching theme is that the best chance of success and happiness comes from staying focused on personal growth and asking for help when needed. That's a great message for kids, and I think they will be very excited to read a biography about someone they know and admire so well.
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
Not many people of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnsons struggling in his younger years..I certainly didn’t.
But this book is a brilliant addition to the Little People, Big Dreams collection as it teaches children to face your fears and doubt. Overcome these and persevere you can achieve your dreams.
Dwayne never wants there to be a sad ending to his movies as he wants everyone to know that good always wins
Little People, Big Dreams does it again! Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara creates this fun-loving story based on the life of Dwayne Johnson. The illustrations are awesome, and the lessons to be learned are endless. We see Dwayne Johnson face fears of failure and doubt. The strength in overcoming and perseverance that it took for Dwayne Johnson to become the talented actor we know today, is inspiring to kids of all ages. With small facts, I even learned from reading the Dwayne Johnson book from the always inspiring and encouraging collection of Little People, Big Dreams.
Dwayne Johnson by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vergara
My son had a fantastic time reading this book. He was so excited as he has two wrestlers who are the rock at different stages in his wrestling career. This book captures his life and struggles on paper to inspire young people. I'm a fan of Rock and this book series. We hope that iconic people from all over the world will join us in this series as well. It was great to see some of the tough times and how he overcame them to become a big star. Luckily there are a lot of little people with big dreams. Sanchez his Ms Vegara has no problem continuing this series. This time young people get to know Dwayne, The Rock and Johnson. why was he called that? Find out the answer once you've learned a lot about what kind of kid this man turned out to be. He was certainly a fighter, not only as an athlete and actor but as someone who needed resilience.
I especially like the way this entry talks about depression. It's normalized nicely. This book captures his life and struggles on paper to inspire young people. I'm a fan of Rock and this book series. I hope that more celebrities from all over the world will participate in this series.

My family and I love the Little People Big Dreams series. Not only are they beautifully illustrated but they get the tone just right for their audience, with engaging text of well known and new facts to learn about famous people.
What we really enjoyed about the Dwayne Johnson book is that it's not all about him being a big movie star. It's about his journey to get there, and his challenges and mistakes along the way. There are some really good messages in the book to discuss with children, about perseverance and following your dreams.
I love these books! Awesome illustrations and the addition of the timeline at the end with more adult writing is very informative. These are great kids books because they introduce all different kinds of people and their unique journeys and this is no exception. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the free preview in exchange for an honest review.
This was a cute one. I liked that we got to see some tough times and how he overcame them to become a huge star. If you are a fan of The Rock this is a fun one for your kids.
The Rock is one of the most iconic celebrities of current world. He has given some memorable moments to us as a wrestler and as a star that he is.
This book brings his life and struggles on paper for young ones to inspire.
I am a fan of Rock and this book series.I would want to see more iconic people from around the world to be a part of this series too.
Happily, there are so many little people with big dreams that Ms. Sanchez Vegara has no trouble keeping this series going. This time, young people will get to know Dwayne, the Rock, Johnson. Why was he called this? Find the answer to that as much is learned about the child who became this man. He certainly was a fighter, not just as a sportsman or actor but as a person who needed resilience.
I especially like how this entry spoke about depression. It was normalized in an excellent way.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for this title. All opinions are my own.
I’ll continue to be a fan of this series but this one really stuck with me. I love that the issue of mental health and depression come up for such a strong male role model. It’s so important to normalize talking about mental health with kids and this book could open up a conversation to do so.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced readers copy.
