I'm ashamed to say that I hadn't heard of any of the Queens of the Age of Chivalry, despite knowing a reasonable amount of each of the Kings (and quite a few of the other male characters of this period).
Weir delves into each Queen in detail, using a wide range of historical sources and documents. Sometimes it is plain just how much the details of the lives of women were and are erased, when it almost seems as though we are searching for some, any, information about them during a particular time, or look to a range of indirect sources to try and infer as best we can.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the lives of these women, and the roles they played in the history of Britain and its relations with other countries. So often, if we hear about them at all, women of the medieval period are mentioned in passing, but we don't really get to know them except through their relationships with the men around them. Queens of the Age of Chivalry pays these women the respect that they have long deserved.
