I don't really have much to say about this. It was very light, very fluffy, very Hallmark Christmas movie with LGBTQIA+ family. I would have liked a some steamy scenes, but this was a nice, fun read and am intrigued to read more from this author (am thinking The Rivals of Casper Road - thoughts?)
Oh, there are one of two triggers: anxiety and family estrangement (which might be upsetting/triggering for some of you, especially around this Christmas/New Year holidays).
Charming, festive and romantic!
This is a cute and emotional m/m romance, a bit of a slow burner for my personal liking but I enjoyed the overall journey you go on as the story and the relationship between Adam and Wes is so adorable, they are a really sweet couple. They both have issues in their lives which have to be overcome before they can finally have their happily ever after and the story between them and learning about their past lives is incredibly emotional.
I loved the setting of the small town, I don't always go gaga on small-town romance, but I did go gaga for this one, it felt intimate and passionate.
This is a wonderful story, I believe it's a part of a series, but I didn't feel as though I had missed out on anything, as the narration is so focused on the story between the two men.
Overall, a well-written and engaging love story with all the magic of the season.
This was an adorable Christmas romance with depth. I love Roan Parrish's writing - her characters are always wonderful. My favourite was inquisitive, charming and witty 8yo Gus. I also loved the detail about Wes's work and his unusual pets, particularly Bettie the tarantula. A warm, cosy and festive read that I stayed up way past by bedtime to finish.
The Lights on Knockbridge Lane is the third in the Garnet Run series by Roan Parrish. I hadn't realised that going in, but I believe that the book can be read as a standalone.
The story follows Adam and his daughter Gus who have moved back to Garnet Run and and Adam is determined to have the best Christmas ever. Gus asks for "the most lights ever" and Adam begins that task, having to recruit assistance from their reclusive neighbour, Wes.
I liked how Wes was introduced and how the relationship developed from reclusive neighbour, to friends, to a committed relationship. It was quite a slow burn considering the length of the book, but I thought that worked well. I also very much appreciated the duel POV! In all honesty, I found Gus a bit much- but I am not a massive fan of children in romances, and I could have done with less on-page time for Bettie the tarantula (again, a spider related personal preference!) but that didn't detract from the story being told. I enjoyed it a lot and flew through it!
This is my first novel by Parrish, but it won't be my last. I already have The Holiday Trap and Riven to get to soon and I'll need to track down the next in this series too!
Thank you to Mills and Boon for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I loved this book. Slow and sweet and cute with adorable 8 year old Gus in the middle. Christmas sucks when you’re without your partner and you feel a bit wretched but this book gives us the tears, the overwhelmedness and the shy hope and smiles. I could read it all over again for the pick me up tonic that it is.
