I received a free copy of, Queen Elizabeth, by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Queen Elizabeth was Queen for an amazing 70 years. Queen Elizabeth was an inspirational women.
A really lovely addition to the Little People, Big Dreams series. My son has had lots of questions about the queen given all the coverage since her passing so this came at the perfect time. Beautiful illustrations and an easy to follow description of the Queen's life and reign. We will be buying a copy of this to add to our collection!
I received it today and, as a teacher, I just had to go through it immediately. There is an entire series of little people, BIG DREAMS books about well-known and important people from all over the world. This one is about the longest-reigning monarch of modern times.
It's such a simple story but so elegantly executed. This is a great book and probably an amazing series to educate young children about extraordinary people with extraordinary and remarkable lives. I can't wait to read this with my children.
5/5⭐
Great read that helps people remember the time line of Queen Elizabeth.
Its aimed at children so is told in a very simple way, but I enjoy reading these just as much as children do and I always learn new and interesting facts.
This book was obviously written before the death of her Majesty, as there is no mention of it.
Great read
Cute! And this should have widespread appeal following Queen Elizabeth II's death. I enjoy this series.
A precious and timely work of children’s nonfiction about the life of Queen Elizabeth II. From her love of dogs and horses, to her dream of living on a farm, to learning to be Queen and ruling longer than any other monarch in history, this one talks about her life as an ambulance driver, her marriage to Prince Philip, and more, with quirky, fun illustrations, a plethora of fun facts, a timeline, historical photos, and more. This one will have your little ones not just reading, but also feeling the girl power vibes, and ready to strive for a life of service and patriotism. Adults, the fun facts are just as interesting for us as they are the little ones!
My family and I love the Little People Big Dreams series. Not only are they beautifully illustrated but they get the tone just right for their audience, with engaging text of well known and new facts to learn about famous people.
The Queen Elizabeth book was no different, and it was very poignant sharing this book with my family following the passing of the Queen. The book starts with the Queen's childhood, and describes how she spent her early years preparing for what was ahead of her. The illustrations really bring the words to life, and are really accessible for young eyes.
At the end there is a more formal text, which gives more detail to what's been covered in the main book. As a parent I find it useful to read this section first, in case any questions come up!
Queen Elizabeth was not our favorite title in the Little People, Big Dreams series. My kids have enjoyed learning about change makers throughout history with this book series, but unfortunately, this title doesn't say much about the queen's legacy. Most of the book focuses on her childhood and love of dogs. I would have liked to see more about what she did during her 70 years of rulership. That said, my kids enjoyed it and it is relatable for very young kids.

Beautiful. This is a great informational text for young children learning about Queen Elizabeth. Beautiful illustrations!
I have been a big fan of this series for years. But this one is my new favorite. I have long loved the royals and our beloved Queen. What a lovely tribute to such a remarkable woman.
Thank you so much Netgalley for the ARC!
Queen Elizabeth is a well-known face all around the world who had massive contribution in past decade. Since I've watched every post related to Her Majesty after her demise, I didn't discover any facts that I didn't already know. However, considering that it's mainly written for young stars, it's an adorable book with pretty illustrations and a great resource to introduce future generations to an important personality of the history.
This book about Queen Elizabeth which is part of the Little People Big Dreams series has beautiful illustrations and is about a female figurehead who has touched and brought people together from every corner of the world. Given her very recent passing, I would love that the book was edited to include this as it has been such a huge moment in history. The colours are engaging and the illustrations are beautiful. The text is short but informative, although I feel that there could of been other things included which would be inspiring for your minds. I would look to buy for little ones in my life as it is a beautiful book.
My daughter, who is six, loved learning about Queen Elizabeth. She enjoyed seeing her while life and was very excited that she had such cute does. I especially loved that it was pointed out that it was a job and a tough one at that.
What a beautiful book to celebrate an iconic woman.
Thank you Netgalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
Pros: I adore the Little People, BIG DREAMS series. This book about Queen Elizabeth II rivals the Ruth Bader Ginsburg book as my favorite in the series. The timing of reading this book is bittersweet as Queen Elizabeth II's funeral was this week. However, this book was a lovely overview of her life and her commitment to service and duty.
Not only do I love the information these books share about their subjects, the illustrations are wonderfully charming. The commitment to accurate details in the illustrations is fantastic. A few special details I noticed were the inclusion of corgis, her wedding tiara, her often-worn pearl necklace, and her great-granddaughter holding her purse in a family portrait..
Cons: Like other books in this series, there are some big ideas and topics in this book that make it more advanced than just a picture book. This is not a negative--it's just a note that the cover art might suggest it is a picture book when really it's something adults will want to help young readers with. Another great thing about this series is that it includes additional information after the illustrated portion, so all readers can learn even more!
Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books for the opportunity to read this book.
A Special Thanks to Net Gallery for this Book.
This is a wonderful children’s book that covers the Queen’s life to date (Obviously Excluding her recent passing) in a straightforward way that is easy to understand and read. What I enjoyed about this book was the warmth for the Queen that I felt throughout this book. Mitchell did a very good job talking about the negative events in the Queen’s family life without taking away from the overall story and focus. The Queen’s faith and love for God are warmly intertwined throughout. This is a good book to introduce young people to the Queen and especially to her saviour whom she loves—the “Lord of lords and King of kings” (Revelation 17:14)
“...he is Lord of lords and King of kings—and with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers.”
R.I.P Queen Elizabeth the 2nd.
Cute book, but a very brief summary of Queen Elizabeth's life. As an animal lover it included the fact that she loved corgis abs horses.
Queen Elizabeth by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara is the latest installment of the delightful Little People, BIG DREAMS series, and what a timely addition it is.
Here we learn about the fascinating life of the longest reigning monarch, and her abiding love and passion for dogs and horses throughout a long life of service. Following Her Majesty's recent passing and the extensive coverage of her life, this book will offer some easily digestible information to inquisitive young minds. This is a wonderful series that can be enjoyed by all ages and, as always, it is most highly recommended.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Quatro Publishing Group - Frances Lincoln Children's Books for an ARC.
Another addition to the ‘Little People, Big Dreams’ series.
A beautifully illustrated book, this text outlines the life of Queen Elizabeth II in a simple way. It is appropriate for young children, I would recommend for ages 5-7.
I think it would be a good starting point, to then lead into a bigger discussion of her life and her service.
I do think the title should be changed to reflect her actual name. This was Queen Elizabeth II. Whilst it might seem trivial, if you are going to produce something detailing British history, you need to be accurate. If ever a book in this series is produced for Queen Elizabeth I, the numbering will especially important. Differentiation is needed and it is also just respectful to get names right.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for gifting me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I am a huge fan of the books in this series and I knew that this one was due to be released before her death on 8th September 2022 so it is just good timing that it has been released now so shortly after her passing but I think it is a book that will be really of benefit.
My daughter is 5 and she did a song and dance at school for the Queen's Jubilee in June this year and has asked me a lot about the Queen lately following her funeral on 19th September which has also sadly coincided with the passing of her grandad so we have been able to use this book to talk about the positives too.
As the book shows Elizabeth was an inspiration to many and she achieved a lot during her 70 years on the throne, but she was never meant to be the Queen and this book shows how her life changed and she became the heir to the throne.
It covers her younger life and how she would play with her sister, Margaret when they were younger as well as her brief stint in the services during the Second World War. It talks about her passion and love of animals and I am delighted that she gets to have a Corgi on the cover too.
The story is really well done and it is a lovely little tribute, it doesn't cover the Queens passing in the book as it was written ahead of that happening. The illustrations are lovely and whilst they are not as like like as some in the series have been they are great to tell her story.
It is 5 stars from me for this one, very highly recommended and another fabulous addition to this series.
Being a queen wasn’t something Princess Elizabeth Alexandra Mary, or Lilibet as her family called her, had dreamed about nor been prepared for. After all, she was born a princess, the granddaughter of King George. There were many others in line for the throne. Unlike her grandchildren today who are being raised in the shadow of what’s ahead, the first decade of Elizabeth’s life was carefree, with little understanding nor expectation of a royal destiny.
The author’s focus on two major events in young Elizabeth’s life, highlight moments which changed her life forever. This is a good opportunity to spend time with children discussing what happens when events, out of our control, occur and cause our journey to take a different direction. I read this with my niece and nephew, and we talked about how our attitude can make all the difference in the world. The first lesson Elizabeth learned was that “a good queen serves her people, not the other way around.’ This shaped her destiny and contributed to her incredible legacy as the longest serving British monarch.
For seventy years, putting others first served the Queen well. We could learn from this lesson.
As always, Vegara’s books have the best illustrations! This one kept my niece and nephew engaged and was the perfect springboard to further discussions about our new King, the succession and what it means to be a royal child.
I was gifted this advance copy by Quarto Publishing Group, Frances Lincoln Children’s Books and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.
