A quick read that is very engaging. Short chapters that encourage you to just read one more! The characters are well developed and the storyline flows very well. A few twists and turns keep the pace going.
Shalini Boland's newest thriller The Daughter-in-Law is a gripping thriller with unexpected twists that will keep you wondering what to believe and who to trust. Caroline and Seb met online and made what seems to be a true connection. After meeting in person they return to Seb's hometown married after a three week whirlwind romance. Seb's family is worried that Caroline may have ulterior motives and Caroline is worried that Seb has a lot to hide after she discovers that his twelve year marriage ended not long before he met her. What unfolds is a web of lies, deception and cold blooded murder that will have you up all night until all of the shocking secrets are finally revealed.
Shalini Boland proves she is an author thoroughly on top of her game with this, her latest novel! I cant stress enough how much I enjoyed this fantastic read - psychological fiction at its finest!
Seb is a man who returns from a trip to Australia with a new bride, Caroline. The story starts with Caroline moving into the successful cosy village pub / restaurant that Seb runs along with his parents, Lillian and Brian who are worthy landlords. From the get-go it is clear Lillian upholds high standards in their family run business. Coming from a hospitality background herself, it is surprising that Caroline struggles to ingratiate herself to her new mother-in-law. It is not long before we discover why, as the action really kicks in! (won't say more, as I really don't want to spoil this book for anyone!)
Great original plot, and the way it unfold is JUST GENIUS!! My thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an advance copy.
A fun, quick read, if a little predictable. The Fletchers are definitely the pinnacle of dysfunctional. Though a bit predictable, there were still some good twists at the end
Shalini Boland does it again. I was so smug reading this and thinking I'd worked out the twists. I didn't have a clue. The shocks came so quickly it was like I was on a rollercoaster, in a good way. This is an exciting, fast paced read with surprises around every corner and an ending that will leave your head spinning. Well deserving of 5 stars I wish I could give it more
Holly twists and turns! This page tuner kept me up waaaay past my bedtime. I was dying to find out who Michelle and Amy were and what their connection to the family was. I didn't see it coming. Absolutely explosive. Boland knocked this one out of the park.
The Daughter-in-Law by Shalini Boland is another engrossing read!
When Seb brings home his new wife Caroline back to England his family aren't very welcoming.
Especially his mother Lilian!
Always getting the death stare and now she knows just how welcome she is here.
Secrets starting to unfold and Caroline starts to wonder just what is lying beneath the surface with her new family!
I knew this was going to be another incredible page-turner that would be unputdownable by Boland.
This book is a truly absorbing, plot-twisting, crazy thriller that really is hard to put down until the very end.
The characters are all artfully and realistically drawn and depicted.
The plot is impossible to predict and has a variety of twists and turns right up until the very last second.
Told from mainly Caroline's and Lillian's POV. We get to see just what this family is hiding and why.
Shalini Boland never ceases to amaze me.
She quickly draws her readers into such an addictive story.
It's always exciting to read her books!
You can never go wrong when picking a Shalini Boland book up.
Bookouture,
Thank You for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this eARC!
The Blurb is what made me curious about this book and as soon as I started I had high hopes for this story and I wasn’t disappointed. This is a roller coaster of ups and downs. This is filled with secrets and lies. I love characters that fly off the page and drag you down into their world. This is an easy book to immerse yourself I felt like I was living it not reading.
Just when you think you know where this story is taking you it does a sharp one eighty leaving you reeling and wanting more after the last paragraph. The story flows easily between the two main women a struggle for power over the other. This story will invoke a lot of feelings.
The more you read the more they hint and the more I had to read to find out what would happen I was hooked to this book and will be following this author for more amazing stories.
Thank you to Netgalley/Bookouture/ Shalini Boland for the ARC in exchange for an honest review..
This is an excellent book, which I finished in 2 days, due to not being able to put it down except when I was working or sleeping!
Caroline arrives in the UK after a whirlwind internet romance with Seb, to live with her in-laws and work in their family run pub and restaurant. She is not made to feel particularly welcome by Lilian, Seb’s mum, nor Nicki, the other daughter-in-law. One of the resturant staff takes a particular dislike to her and sets Caroline up to fail constantly. When Caroline discovers big things out about Seb’s past, she tries to delve, which proves tricky because there is a wall of silence from everyone she asks.
With chapters alternating between Caroline and Lilian, I found this book thoroughly engrossing. I highly recommend it.
When Seb arrives home from his holiday in Australia he brings with him his new wife. His family are shocked and not all of them are pleased with this development.
A story with some unbelievable twist and turns that kept me entertained.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.
This book starts off talking of Michelle and Amy... and then we see some excerpts from Michelle and Amy, but all the while wondering who these 2 characters are... they are rarely mentioned in the main story line. But have no fear, all of your questions about Michelle and Amy will eventually get answered. Many twists and turns in this novel to keep a reader interested. Quick read novel, but one that is great!
I've read a few thrillers by Shalini Boland and all are full of twists you don't see coming.
The Daughter-in-Law is a fun to read, easy to devour, thriller which keeps you guessing until the very end.
4 stars.
Thank you NetGalley, publisher and author, for a free copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review. As always, this author narrates a thriller in a fantastic way. Twist after twist are all unexpected and only makes me read longer, ignoring everything else. Fantastic read!
Unusually for Shalini Boland I found this book hard to get to where it was going. There was a lot of buildup and none of the characters where particularly likeable.
As secrets started to be revealed, the book became more engaging. It then continued at pace till the ending.
Many thanks for the opportunity to see an ARC
I am never disappointed when I read a book by Shalini Boland. They always totally absorb you and I find myself reading more than usual. I look forward to the next one.
This will keep you up reading until the early hours just what you would expect from this author it starts off with someone digging a grave then you know where the story is going scary.
Caroline and Seb meet on line and marry without telling the family Caroline moves from Australia to be with Seb but when she meets the family they are not as friendly as she hoped. There is underlying tension which is mainly created by his mother the problem is they all live over the pub which they own so there is no escape. There are so many twists as Caroline finds out terrible things. Definitely recommend I loved it.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC
Fabulously twisty, I guessed a couple of the shocks, but not all of them. Literally couldn’t put it down, even kept going while eating my dinner. So atmospheric too, you can picture the pub.
I a big fan of this author and she never disapoints as normal a very twisty and addictive read. Seb goes to Australia to meet Caroline he has been talking to her online his family just thought he was going to have a break from the family business. but he marries Caroline out there and she is coming back with him to live in Stalbridge at his home and family business the Royal oak pub. his mum Lillian does not take it well his dad Brian is ok about it Seb has a brother who is the chef and has a wife and child one of the staff Mariah is out to cause trouble for Caroline. then Caroline finds out Seb had a wife who ran off who is telling lies and what will they do to stop the truth coming out so recommend
Shalini Boland has done it again! A suspenseful story that I couldn’t put down, never saw the twists coming and as always.. that epilogue!!!! 5 east stars.
Brilliantly addictive!
I am such a big fan of Shalini’s books. Like all her other stories this one drew me in from the start and had me hooked until the end. An intriguing storyline full of fabulous twists and turns and an awesome ending that I didn’t see coming!
Seb returns home after a few weeks away in Australia. His parents are overjoyed to see him, but not so overjoyed to see that he has returned with a wife! After getting to know each other online, Seb and Caroline decided they were in love so they got married over in Oz and now they have arrived in the UK to set up home in Seb’s parent’s pub!
I was unsure whether I should trust the new daughter-in-law Caroline or the new mother-in-law Lilian or both! To be honest I wasn’t sure if I should trust any of the other characters in this book either! Shalini gives you plenty of reasons to doubt everyone, my mind was working overtime trying to guess what was going to happen, changing my suspicions many times over!
Both Seb and Caroline are harbouring secrets which is never a good thing in a new marriage, as the story progresses these secrets come to light sending us on a rollercoaster ride full of shocks and surprises all the way to the fantastic ending!
I never read the blurbs for certain authors’ books as I know I’ll love their work. I’m glad I didn’t read the blurb for this one first as I do feel it had a couple of bits revealed in it that I enjoyed the shock of in the story and I may not have been as shocked had I read the blurb first.
Fast-paced, easy to read and hard to put down! I’m so glad Shalini releases more than one book a year as I don’t think I could wait very long to read one of her books.
One of my go-to authors! I highly recommend this book, especially if you love an easy-to-read, gripping psychological thriller!
Thanks to Shalini Boland, Bookouture & NetGalley for my copy of this book.
