I loved this one. This was the first I've read from this author. I thought I had it figured out until the last twist! I will definitely seek out more of their work!

Finally an ARC that I am giving 5 stars! I received this ARC from Bookouture via NetGalley in exchange for my honest feedback. I found the book very suspenseful and it definitely kept me guessing. So many books these days are told from multiple viewpoints, but I can't remember one I have read recently from so many viewpoints. This made for fascinating reading as you get into the heads of multiple characters.
KL Slater makes you feel for many of the characters - Jennifer whose life was turned upside down, Miller with his teenage issues compounded by family drama, Sara who essentially just wants to be loved. Despite all of them making some bad choices, you do sympathize.
There were at least 3 twists, none of which I saw coming. Toward the end I did start to have a feeling about where the author was going with Sara, but I think that was foreshadowed perfectly rather than being too obvious.

Wow! Her husband has a girlfriend. Now the husband is dead and the girlfriend owns the house. This story got better and better as I flew through the virtual pages.
And then there are the others who were involved in this twisted scenario. But I won't say who because that would create spoilers.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

K.L. Slater is masterful at these compulsively readable psychological thrillers and this was just another example of her "keeping me on the edge of my seat and up too late reading!" ability! Twists were good and unexpected, which I love, and I enjoy an unstable character so this had that as well. Highly recommend any book by Slater!

Another outstanding read by KL Slater! Like me, you will have a hard time putting this book down!
Just when you think things could not get worse....
K.L. Slater never disappoints and in The Girlfriend, Jennifer receives the dreaded knock on the door which changes her life. Two police officers are there to inform her that her husband, Cole, is dead. She is heartbroken, shocked, and reeling. Why did her husband leave their party?
Telling your children their father is dead is hard enough, how do you explain the woman who shows up at your door to inform you that she is your husband's girlfriend and the baby in her arms is his child???
Things are about to get messy!
This was a wild and twisty ride! Slater pulls out all the stops in this gripping page turner! I had to hold onto my hat when the twists and reveals were coming at me full blast. Like a roller coaster ride, this book was thrilling, fast paced, and left me breathless. Just when I thought I knew what was going on, I was shocked yet again!
WOWZA!
The characters are fantastic and interesting. There were the ones I liked, some I had issue with and some I wasn't sure about. This kept me on my toes and invested in the plot. This book also had me questioning what I would do in this situation. This book kept me on my toes!
Such a fun, riveting and hard to put down read!
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.

The Girlfriend by K.L. Slater is a fast paced novel with short chapters and well developed flawed character's, story of a dysfunctional family, full of lies and secrets and twists and turns at the end makes for an entertaining read.
I would like to thank Bookouture & NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review

An interesting but not extraordinary thriller. It didn’t have the wrenching plot twist I was expecting. None of what happened in the plotting was too surprising. An okay read.

Guys... Ohmy since this book started I knew I was going to be disgusted by that guy but then it gets worse!!!! By 16% of the book I felt my inside twisting!!! How to despise some characters this way? I have loathe some but this? This was other level!!!! And that made the book even better for me. You know a thriller will be good when you're reading and thinking on gettin in and squeeze some throats hahaha.
I will just twll you there was one twist after the other and I ended up OBSESSED!!!! I just couldn't put it down!!!! I literally started it and stopped just because I'm a mom and the house needed me but once I was able to focus completely I simply read until I finished a bit after 3 am !!!!!! With that cat as my only companion I was telling him twist after twist and he didn't care and why would he mind about Jennifer, Sara, Cole, Miller and all of them hahahaa but I needed to tell someone and he was right next hahaha. I'm telling you all now, guys, get your hands on this one!!!!!!
It's creepy and full of twists that will have you there wondering what is going on. There's no explicit murders or anything bloody... nope!!! So if you enjoy light thrillers but full of action this one is for you. Since the first chapter it has all the action and the characters are just so real. The entire plot is so good and the book is so well written!!!! I'm telling you, I'll read ANY/EVERY book this author writes!!!!
Based on this book... what would you do if your partner dies, and next day his/her lover comes to your house and says hello I was with them, this is our baby, and just so you know I own this house and every cent you own... but this person offers to let you live there if they can move in with you....!!!!!! What would you do?!?!!?! Does this question intrigues you??? Are you gettin the book now?!?!?! Hahahaha

Wow!! What a brilliant twisty psychological thriller I just couldn’t put it down.
This book intrigued me from the outset & just builds twists upon twists you can’t believe what is happening.
You think you have a handle on what is going on but you really haven’t.
I Love a book that can surprise me & the more I read, the more it kept me in suspense as to what was going on.
I just wanted to keep reading to try & unravel what was going on but I still didn’t see what was coming.
Jennifer & husband Cole are living a good life with a beautiful home & two children Miller & Sylvia.
Then the unthinkable happens & Jennifer is faced with the police on her doorstep.
Cole has been in a single car accident & was found dead at the scene.
Only days after this terrible news, Jennifer answers a knock at the door & finds a young woman holding a baby, who she claims is Cole’s son.
Not only that she is claiming that the house & everything Jennifer owns belongs to her & she can prove it.
This psychological thriller will have you reading into the small hours as it’s hard to put down.
Thoroughly enjoyed it.

What an enthralling read!
Imagine this, your husband dies. You’re distraught. Your mourning. Then your doorbell rings and a woman is at the door holding a baby. She tells you she was your husband’s girlfriend, this child is his, and she owns your house. What do you do? That’s what the main character of this book has to find out.
KL Slater is a go to author for me because her books are always fast paced, with short chapters, and I can’t put them down. This one was exactly like that, and I really enjoyed it the escape from reality, to a reality I’m glad was not mine!
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Get this book! You won’t regret it!

I received an ARC of The Girlfriend by K.L. Slater in exchange for my honest review.
This was a very unique spin on a classic situation of husband cheats on wife!
I kept turning pages trying to guess what would happen next. There were plenty of twists and turns to navigate, and just when you think you have it all figured out... you don't! I would definitely recommend this fast paced thrill ride.
Jennifer and Cole have it all, a beautiful house, two amazing children, and a lifestyle that most people can only dream of attaining. Then, just before the start of their annual Halloween party, the police show up at the door to tell Jennifer that Cole was involved in a single car accident and was killed. As if that wasn't devastating enough, just days after Cole was killed, a beautiful woman named Sara shows up at the door carrying a baby. Sara says the baby is Cole's, and she says that she owns their house and everything in all their bank accounts, she says she isn't leaving.
Sara tells Jennifer that she has to let her, and her son, move in with them, or she will evict her and her children. Broke, devastated and with no other options, Jennifer agrees. As humiliating as it is, it's about to get worse. Jennifer has to figure out a way to protect herself and her children in more ways than one!

**Many thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture, and K.L. Slater for an ARC of this book!**
You've lost your spouse...your other half...your whole world.
And now there's a knock at the door...and a stranger informs you that you're about to lose something else...your beautiful home. It doesn't actually belong to you or your husband and never has...because it's ALL HERS.
The baby in her arms? Well, it's HIS home too...because this child is your husband's child...and this stranger wasn't quite a stranger to your husband: she was his girlfriend.
Jennifer finds herself in this undeniably unique predicament, and after losing husband Cole, she's desperate to keep it together for her two kids Miller and Sylvie. When Sara (the Girlfriend) shows up claiming ownership of said dream home, Jennifer is horrified. How can she turn away a woman and her baby...a baby who is now fatherless after Cole's demise? Sara has the perfect solution in mind: she will "allow" Jennifer and her kids to stay put...as long as Sara and Rory can move in.
After they do, Jennifer begins to notice some strange coincidences. An identical bracelet to hers on Sara's wrist. An all-too-willing attitude to step in and parent Jennifer's children...as if they were her own. A mysterious silver cell phone hidden in Sara's underwear drawer, holding secrets that lead Jennifer to question whether Cole's accident was even an accident at all...and what exactly does The Girlfriend who just can't let go have in store?
K.L. Slater's books are an easy draw for many reasons: they're fast-paced, oh-so-readable, have well-developed characters, and always have twists and turns in store. What takes her up a notch from other suspense authors in the genre (and even those who write stylistically similar books) is her CREATIVITY. Honestly, I can't think of another thriller writer who comes up with such unique scenarios, and reading her author's note is always a treat. I love that despite their implausibility, in Slater's world, they always just WORK. You never have to think too hard or drive over too many pot holes...er, plot holes to get from A to B.
Slater's trademark adorable child characters were back also (well, just one child character technically...Miller the secretive and somewhat surly teen is another story!) and Sylvie was a doll. I love her multi-faceted adult characters too, and like them or not, they were certainly intriguing in this story! I don't know that the ending was a complete shocker, but there was just enough obscured and enough mystery throughout to keep me happily turning the pages and I found myself saying "...already?" when the book was over!
So bust out the candy corn (or Reese's, if you prefer) and perhaps your CARAMEL popcorn for Halloween and buckle in for a quick and exciting read on a chilly October night!
4 stars

This book is CRAZY! Both crazy good and just crazy. And crazy good too, and crazily addictive, and crazy unputdownable. In a good way, it is insane, insanely twisted. The twists keep coming and some are seriously mind-blowing-unexpected, and some are just regular unexpected. And if you need a book to show as the perfect example of something that is unputdownable, then this book is it.
This is my first book by the author, yet now I am hooked, and I want to read everything she has ever written!
Also, my personal favorite is the short chapters that are easy to read and make it feel like the pages are just flying. I had no idea I am such a fan of short chapters.
This is an absolutely perfect twisty psychological thriller. Twisty and twisted. And crazy good, and crazy crazy, and with crazy people doing crazy things.
And then when you think you have it all figured out... You suddenly no longer know who really is the crazy one there.

“I’ll do anything it takes to protect my children and keep our family together. The secret I’m holding proves that.”
Happy Pub Day! Thank you, K.L. Slater, Bookouture, and NetGalley for this ARC in return for my honest review!
Jennifer’s husbands dies and suddenly his secret girlfriend is at their door. What’s worse? She owns their house and all their assets actually belong to her. Now, she finds herself living in her house with her husband’s girlfriend and their baby boy.
This book was extremely fast paced in the beginning, but honestly seemed a bit rushed that last 30% of the book. It definitely threw me for a loop with twists in the end, which I loved. I thought the storyline was great and just wish that there would have been better pacing. I gave the 3 ⭐️‘s.

Oh boy, what an enthralling read!
With so many twists - just what psychological thriller readers need!
It starts with a party, a plan to celebrate,
And a husband who is dreading whatever is his fate.
When he's killed in an accident his wife is shocked to discover
That he's been living a double life - having a young son with his lover.
That's just the first of many twists to keep you turning pages
As the drama unfolds with so many different stages.
With so much family drama, schemes and much more
It even has a final twist, the kind that I adore.
So get ready to go on a rollercoaster ride with many ups and downs
That'll keep you guessing and often wearing a frown.
Another gripping read by KL Slater who
Seems so adept at writing brilliant reads for me and for you.
For my complementary copy of this book, I say thank you,

Thats for my arc. Always a pleasure to read such talent look foward to your next one

Wowsers, what a fantastic read! I was so engrossed in this book, wondering what the heck was going on, staying up way too late to read just a little bit more. I defy anyone to guess how this one pans out! It's got everything you want in a psychological thriller and more. Great characters - nasty ones, lovely ones and some you can't work out. And a tangled mystery at its core.

The girlfriend is a classic psychological thriller. Great short chapters that keep you reading. It’s a situation we would all hate to be in, your husband dies suddenly and next thing you know his girlfriend is on your doorstep with her baby, demanding to move in!!
What unfolds is a web of complex connections and motives. I guessed a few of the twists but not them all.
A tale of greed, deception, love, loss and revenge.

🤦🏻♀️ I loved the blurb but I’d remembered the main part of it - I would have loved to go in blind!
🔀 If you enjoyed Our House (Louise Candlish), I think you’ll enjoy this one!

K.L Slater is one of my favourite thriller authors, and this reminded me why. It's gripping from the first chapter and had me glued to my kindle saying "one more chapter". Great ending, good pacing and overall a fantastic read
