Mother Freakin' Fluffer! As always, Slater freakin' nails it! I'm never ever disappointed with her books and the heart-thumping twists she jam-packs you with! I don't know how she creates such incredible twists that you can't imagine, but she does it with such finesse. Absolutely scrumptious; I inhaled this like the last piece of Black Forest cake. The thrill, intense tension & undeniably scandalous secrets are plentiful and welcomed in this. You think you'll know how it all plays out and it's obvious - nay nay my friends! I was sucker punched so hard with this beaut I still can't get over it. Needless to say, a fix of carbs & coffee are now needed for comfort. Geez almighty I'm still shook or shaken or woke or whatever bloody word is "in" now.
Mყ 𝐒ყɴ𝐨ρѕιѕ: Jennifer has just received the devastating news that her husband, Cole, has died in a single-car accident. Within hours after receiving the news, a woman, Sara, shows up on her doorstep with her baby, claiming to be Cole's girlfriend and his child. But that's not the worst of the nightmare. You see, Sara owns everything Jennifer has - her accounts, the cars, and the house. But Sara isn't cold-hearted. She offers a compromise that her and her child live with Jennifer and her two children in the house, & with no other options, she has no choice but to agree. But as they try to work together and be civil for the sake of the children, her nightmare is about to become even more earth-shattering.

𝐌𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐭: 4.5 / 5 Jack-o'-lanterns! 🎃

When Cole dies, his wife, Jennifer, and his children, Miller and Sylvie are devastated.
The next day, Sara turns up on the doorstep with baby Rory and says that Cole was his Dad! Cole had been having an affair and Sara informs Jennifer that the house, cars and pretty much everything are owned by her!
I loved Jennifer, she came across as a bit naive but everything was about protecting her family. I felt for Miller, a troubled teenager who has just lost his Dad and my heart went out to him. I disliked Sara, the only thing likeable about her was her love for her baby.
Well the author has done it again and left me gobsmacked!
This author excels at writing psychological thrillers that are full of excellent red herrings all the way through! Don’t bother trying to guess because you won’t be right on everything!
My thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for a copy in exchange for my honest review.

The doorbell rings, just days after my beloved husband’s sudden death. I don’t recognise the woman on our doorstep, with her buttery blonde highlights, a diamond bracelet identical to my own and a bouncing baby boy in her arms.
As I show her inside, I notice her eyes grow wide as she takes in our spacious hallway, and the big squashy sofas that we all used to pile on. She glances at the silver-framed family photos and my little daughter hiding behind my skirts.
She looks at me, her blue eyes serious. ‘I’m sorry’ she says. ‘I know this will be hard to hear. But I am your husband’s girlfriend. And this is his son.’
My world implodes. And then she tells me that she owns our home and that she’s not going anywhere…
Really enjoyable read and totally recommend
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture
I just reviewed The Girlfriend by K.L. Slater. #TheGirlfriend #NetGalley

An intriguing read from start to finish. After the death of Jennifer's husband Cole, his girlfriend turns up with his baby son. What follows is a bizarre set up. How this set up will be resolved, I had no idea but it certainly had me turning the pages quickly. A cleverly woven plot .

Jennifer and Cole appear to have a perfect life - two kids, a huge house, and a loving marriage. But not all is as it seems. After Cole's unexpected death, Sara knocks on Jennifer's door and announces that not only is she Cole's girlfriend/fiancée but also is the mother of his son. Who exactly is Sara? And what was Cole hiding?
I really wanted to like The Girlfriend; however, the pacing was excruciatingly slow, the characters weren't well-developed, and the ending was mostly predictable.

This book had me gripped right from the start- mainly because Cole sounded like a total.sleazebag and I was right! I enjoyed the characters even though some of them were a bit clichéd (eg blonde, ice blue eyed Nordic unhinged beauty, money grabbing unemployed single mother) but I thought Sylvie and Miller were well written characters thst oarents can relate to. Quite a far fetched story line, however the 2nd half got darker with plenty of twists and it never got dull. What a fab read.

I quite enjoyed this book, story was a bit far fetched and quite formulaic but still readable with a good twist towards the B end. I would recommend this, thank you Netgalley for an advanced copy

This author is kind of hit and miss with me. This one was kind of a miss, but had its moments.
The storyline was kind of interesting. And the twist at the end was unexpected. However, it was kind of slow getting in to and I couldn’t stand any of the characters.
Overall, it was OK, but not something I’m going to rush out and recommend to others.
I received this book free of charge from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

Jennifer is devastated when her husband Cole is killed in a car accident.
A few days later a young woman with a baby turns up at her door saying that she is Cole’s girlfriend and the baby is his. She also informs Jennifer that the house she lives in belongs to her and Jennifer and her children are now homeless.
A good story with some twist and turns that kept me entertained.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

I love this author's books! You know you are going to get a rollercoaster ride of horrible characters and twisted motives!
As always it is the children I feel sorry for in these books, poor souls having parents like these. I thought I had it all figured out by was blindsided by the final twist. Great domestic noir thriller.

4 stars
This was definitely an above average thriller! I loved it. The roller coaster of crazy was beyond what I could imagine. The trusts and turns just kept coming. Right when I had it figured out, I really didn’t 😄
I can’t wait to look up and read more by Slater.

Another great thriller from K.L. Slater. You will read this story and think that you know what is going on, and you might be correct... but then again... not! The story flows nicely, though a tiny bit unbelievable at the beginning with the living arrangements, but in the end you will fully grasp the story line. Great read as always!

WHOA… The girlfriend was a wild ride. Jennifer and Cole have the perfect family a big house then Cole dies and his girlfriend and son show up to live with Jennifer and her two kids. This was a CRAZY good read with a twisted plot that kept me guessing and blew my mind at the end!!

This was definitely a page turner. I could absolutely see Lifetime making this into a movie.
Human psychology is fascinating. I don’t know what I would do if my husbands girlfriend turned up proclaiming ownership to my house.
I enjoyed this but I feel like there was a missed opportunity for Jennifer and Sara to form an actual bond.
The one I feel the sorriest for is Miller. Sylvie is an innocent child who just wanted everyone and everything happy. Miller was put in an awful situation by people who should know better.
I suspected Jennifer’s big secret around the middle of the book, but some revelations still surprised me.
This was unexpectedly good and I might check out more of this authors work.
I received a copy via NetGalley, all opinions are my own.

The Girlfriend
by K.L. Slater
I've not read a book by K.L. Slater until the Girlfriend, but I will read more of her work. This was some insane, roller coaster ride of one crazy lady after another, then another. And then wow, the ending just shocked the whole crazy into the big box and tied the ribbon on.

Brilliant twisty turny thriller. When her husband dies Jennifer didn’t think things could get much worse, until that is his girlfriend and their new baby arrive on the doorstep. Not only must she face up to his unfaithfulness, but apparently the girlfriend also owns everything Jennifer has, including her home. Faced with no choice she must accept them into her and her children’s lives and so beings an excellent unraveling. A fabulous read with lots of unexpected twists

Ms Slater is back with her latest offering and it certainly doesn’t disappoint.
Jennifer is happily married also she thinks to Cole they have two children Miller and Sylvie. On the day of a planned party the police turned up with a devastating news Cole has been killed in an accident.
Jennifer is left reeling. The following day a woman Sara turns up on her doorstep a baby on a hip. She announces that she is Cole’s girlfriend and that she is now the owner of everything Jennifer owns. So as not to upset the children Sara comes up with a plan that she will move in with the family.
Jennifer has now not only lost her husband but her home. As she moves out of the marital bedroom so that the new woman can move in she wonders just how her husband managed to get them into this state. Especially as the police seem to think that Cole’s death may not have been just an accident.
Will Jennifer lose everything before the truth comes out ? who is the strange woman and why would her husband give everything up ?
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to see an ARC

After the death of her husband, a woman shows up on the doorstep claiming she had your husband's son and she owns your house and your cars. What would you do? Would you invite her in? Invite her to stay in the house? Trust her? This is definitely a not-to-be-missed! K.L. Slater is the queen of twists, and “The Girlfriend” is a fantastic example of why! Clever and unexpected plot twists, and expertly crafted characters land it in a top 10 for the season. Sara is sinister; I love how horrible she is and the evil way she manipulates people, especially Jennifer’s children. Slater skillfully builds the tension until you could cut it with a knife – I could not put this book down even though it was bedtime, I had to find out it would all end!
Shout out to NetGalley, the publishers and author for sending me an ARC In exchange for my honest opinions.

I thoroughly enjoyed this nail biter! The story starts off innocently enough with a family planning a huge party, but as we soon learn the husband, Cole has a secret family stashed away. What seems like a tragic, but ordinary affair story becomes an intriguing story of double crossing and revenge. I was rooting for one side from the beginning and I could not wait to find out who would be the final winner in this compelling family drama.
