Someone to Kiss by Jamie Anderson

The book starts when forty something Katie has a serious wake up call the day after a New Years’s wedding and she sees herself on Facebook in a very unflattering drunk position just looking like a sad middle age woman . She finds a note written by herself on a napkin and she decides she is going to change her life and find ‘someone to kiss ‘by next year.
Helping her through the trials of online dating are her bffs Julie and her brother Ben who have known each other thirty years.

A reasonably well written book. The books descriptions of the characters and the encounters she has along the way are very well done though I did find the book very slow going and everything was crammed into the last quarter of the book. It was very repetitive and predictable though I will say that the author did deal with a number of very sensitive issues in the storyline extremely well and generally the book did seem almost more of a ‘fly on the wall’ book as opposed to fiction and some of the humour in the story did make you laugh. 3.5/5

A cutesy love story without the unneeded spice that so many rom com's have! It made me laugh and it even made me tear up. I loved the main character and was rooting for her the entire time. There were sweet parts, hilarious moments and it had easy flow. Funny and emotional good read overall, about friendships and finding love.

I love this take on a modernized dating over 40 romance. From a New Year's resolution that says she will find someone to kiss on New Year’s Eve next year, the main character Kate spends her entire year trying to find romance. For Kate, that means becoming more outgoing when going to speed dating events, hook-ups, and sliding into DM’s. I will not spoil the ending because I believe that everyone should find out on their own what happens. I will say that I recommend this book if you want something a little different than your standard romance.

This is a good book. The two main characters are Kate and Ben. They have know each other all their lives. Kate’s best friend, Julie, is Ben’s sister. Ben has loved Kate for a long time. Kate goes on an online dating site. She has decided to try one out. It is a mess. But one good thing comes out of it, she realizes that Ben is it for her. They fall in love.

This was very much a book of two halfs for me: on the one hand it was very predictable and you know what would happen from the beginning pretty much, but on the other there was some ground-breaking dealing with real social issues and problems such as alcoholism and depression.
Our heroine is certainly genuine and relatable to, if prone to being rather self-centred but then who's perfect? She's a good person to have as a friend.
Some very clever writing alongside some that's more formulaic, but overall an entertaining and enjoyable novel.

She decides to give the online dating thing a try, but at 40 she is not quite prepared for the trials and tribulations that come with all that fun stuff 🤪
I had a tough time connecting with the main character I’m not sure why. Julie and Ben, Kate’s best friends were very likeable however. I enjoyed seeing these friendship relationships as well as romantic ones.
This book was FUNNY! I loved reading about all the terrible dates and terrible men the MC was experiencing 🤣 I love a LOL funny book so much!!

I've been working on this one for a while. I keep trying to find an audible version, but read it little by little because I received an ARC for an honest review from #NetGalley.

This was a very sweet and not at all spicy romance, so if that is your jam, I can see this as being a quick and enjoyable beach read. The only reason I didn't give it more stars is because it didn't give me the feels that usual amazing romance novels give. It was very cute and a bit predictable, but that doesn't affect the enjoyment of the story. There were also some very humorous moments.

Kate is in her forties and on a drunken New Year’s Eve, decides that this year will be the year that she finds someone to kiss on the following New Year’s Eve. And so begins the perils of online dating, speed dating, blind dates and everything in between! Online dating is a minefield and the author’s depiction of that was absolutely spot on. It’s humorous but also a little bit scary at just how accurate it is!!

This was a really good story with so many funny, laugh out loud moments. Kate was so relatable. I am sure that most women could relate to her at some point in their lives. She has her two best friends, Julie and Ben. Both of which have their own issues and problems in their personal lives, but Kate is a little bit blind to that for a bit as she’s focused on trying to find ‘the one’. Julie and Ben are great supporting characters, and I was really rooting for Julie, so I was so glad when she finally opened up towards the end. Kate’s boss Terry was comically awful. He was just horrific and I was punching the air with joy when she finally told him about himself!!!

Some great explorations of mental health, functional alcoholism, past experiences of trauma and rape (it’s not in great detail but could be very triggering so please do be aware), and loneliness.

I really did enjoy this book, it was more than just a rom com, and the main characters were fantastic. My ONLY areal gripe with it is I knew exactly how this book was going to end by the time I’d read 8% of the book, and whilst I still enjoyed the story, I did spend the following 80-85% of the book just thinking OPEN YOUR EYES KATE!!!! 🤣 But a great read, and I would definitely recommend it!

I read a lot of books with this theme over any given year. They are usually quick reads which I can finish in a couple of sittings. I, therefore, have quite a few that I compare to when it comes to liking or disliking a book (whether I want to or not). The author has written well, with the lead protagonist slightly older than those of other such books. The story itself was not one that I managed to enjoy.
Kate has decided to find someone by the following new year to be by her side. She becomes obsessed with her misbehaviour at a wedding at the start of this year, and this has her looking for all possible ways to figure things out. What does not help is Kate's obsessive need to compare her own standing with that of her best friend, who has demons of her own that she is battling in silence. The best friend's brother has always had a soft spot for Kate, something she does not realise until he stops behaving in the 'usual' manner.
Julie's troubles make the book a lot more serious than Kate's thoughts, in the beginning would indicate. The combination of things did not work for me. I think many people who read this genre will be used to differing types of growth that the protagonist goes through to the happy ending and would not have the same problems that I did.
I liked the writing style and would read another book by the author if I had the chance, but this particular book was not for me.

Her best friend Julie offers to support her, and helps her to create an online dating presence, whilst Julie's brother Ben watches over the two girls to ensure they are alright. Julie gives the appearance of being always fun, incredibly beautiful and sailing through life too easily, but is hiding a secret. Ben has been through troubles of his own but has arrived in a good place. All three are hoping for different things by the following New Year's Eve, and all want to find their own happiness.

I loved this book! It made me laugh and it even made me tear up. I loved the main character and was rooting for her the entire time. 5 stars!!

This books wasn't what I expected at all. I struggled a lot with this one. I had a hard time to finish it. It didn't worked for me, unfortunately.

I really wanted to finish this book but after a couple of months of trying to finish it I lost interest.

I felt like it was obvious what was going to happen and the story didnt seem that exciting.

This is a funny and heart-warming romance. Online dating is hard, and is even harder when you're forty and don't know exactly what you're doing. Kate goes through a lot of online dating nightmares and you can feel her struggle to try to find the right guy.

I appreciate that there's a lot of criticism and self reflection about the concept of dating in the internet era, and most of all, the difficulties women experiences: misogyny, abuse, prejudice because of age and the constant reminder that "the biological clock is ticking". Another great point is the mental health awareness and the importance of self care and medical intervention (if necessary).

It was nice to have multiple POV from time to time, I got to know better every character and understand their concerns and struggles. Sometimes I thought Kate was too naive, but it works perfect for the story to show different approaches in dating (Julie and Ben are their own).

“Someone to Kiss” is a delightful, hilarious, and heart-warming read. It starts with a laugh-out-loud opening scene that will have you dying of second-hand embarrassment. 40-something year old Kate gets insanely drunk at a New Year’s Eve wedding, and as she ushers in the new year, she makes a pledge to herself; by the next New Year’s Eve, she will have someone to kiss.

I struggled to put it down! This was a fun, quick read about Kate - who felt she hit rock bottom in love and trying to find her special someone over the length of a year.

It's less of a romance and more of Kate journey as she tries to find 'someone' within a year through online dating app.
Sometimes I really liked Kate for being who she is & not changing herself for anyone & standing up for herself but other times she did these absolutely ridiculous things that made me really mad at her.

Ben is Kate's best friend Julie's brother & the three have been friends for years. He's quiet, suffers from anxiety, and has always been there for Kate & loved her.
I have always loved the 'it's always been you', 'he falls first' tropes & pinning and this book has it all but I really liked how Ben decided to be away from Kate for his mental health and well being when she was so blindingly caught up in finding someone who would like her.

I appreciate how the book tells that mental Illness isn't a weakness & its okay to take meds for it. It also gives the message that sometimes what we are so desperately seeking for has always been right in front of us, if only we really see.

On new years eve Kate drunkenly writes a note that by next new years eve she will have someone to kiss. This is a totally predictable rom com but despite that I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a lighthearted fun and easy read. I loved the friendship dynamics and the light humour was just the tonic I needed. I highly recommend this and I am really looking forward to reading what this author writes next.

I really enjoyed how relatable the main characters situation was. The story does get a bit repetitive hand predictable, which makes it a bit of a slow read. But overall was a fun read and a nice break from a lot of the thrillers I read last month.
