Thrilling and utterly compulsive! An incredible read, impossible to put down. Incredible storytelling! Recommend you read this book! A captivating story that I was drawn into from the first page a propulsive read that never let me go from start to finish!
I read the first book in this series, Queen of Thieves, last year and enjoyed it very much. Whilst this second book can be read as a stand alone, I think it makes it even better if you’ve read the first book as it’s in this one we first meet Nell when she is very young and first joins the gang of 40 Thieves as the hoisters are known. At that time, they’re led by Alice Diamond, but it isn’t until you’re half way through this book that Alice makes her reappearance. Nell is currently Queen of the 40 Thieves after she betrayed Alice Diamond in the last book. But Alice is looking for retribution. She’s bided her time and is determined to bring Nell down.
This one is even more gritty than the last book. Whilst the last book tended to be mainly female dominated, there is more in this book about the male side of gangland crime. The extortion, racketeering, robberies and rival gangs to contend with. Zoe becomes increasingly drawn in to the seedier side of club life when she gets involved with a Teddy boy gang leader. It was very sad to read Zoe’s side of the story as she is treated badly by just about everyone she gets involved with. She just wanted the better things in life after her poverty-stricken childhood, but the good life comes at a price.
I liked the ending, it was very tense and full of difficult decisions. I was a bit disappointed after reading the acknowledgements at the end where the author says she’s enjoying writing the next book in the series which takes her back to 1920’s London. As it would appear the next book is going back in time, I wonder will we ever find out what becomes of Nell.
Another fantastic book from this author and I look forward to seeing where the next book will take us.
(Thank you to the publisher for the chance to read this book. I didn't spot it until just before publication date. Review to be posted to my blog and Amazon in the next couple of days)
Thrilled to read and acquire this title. Full review coming due to an unexpected health issue their has been a delay. I love how this books focuses on women and the power of woman and Carrie’s alo5 of suspense and action. Very excited for this one!
This is the second book in the series with Queen of thieves being the first and what a smasher it is.
It was lovely to picture in and around parts of London in the 1950s and the rise of the teddy boys and the girls with their big petticoats. Then there is the other side the sleazy side, where young girls are raped nightly by high court judges and high-ranking police officers just to name a few.
Clubland with all its glitz and glamour out front is nothing like what goes on behind the scenes with girls being beaten, burnt, and abused to toe the line.
The squalid conditions that people have to live in to survive with their electricity cut off or windows smashed in if they complain. Sometimes heavies go around and rough them up.
The research was second to none and it takes you right into the heart of it.
A really enjoyable book about crime, violence, and sadness.
Really looking forward to the next installment.
Thank you so much NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this excellent book.xx

Queen of Clubs by Beezy Marsh.
Book 2 crime saga series.
1957, London.
Gangland Queen Nell has the perfect life of crime as a top shoplifter by day and glamorous club owner by night. But a betrayal and botched robbery suddenly reverse her fortunes... and her old rival, Alice Diamond, is hell-bent on taking her down. After escaping a poverty-stricken childhood, nightclub dancer Zoe has more on her mind than settling scores for Alice. But the life of luxury Zoe craves comes at a terrible price. And when a vicious gang tightens its grip on Soho, all three women realise it pays to keep your friends close and your enemies closer. When the fight to save your family becomes a fight for survival, there is no honour among thieves...
I really enjoyed this book. Great story. I do hope there is more to come. 5*.
Book 2 and just as addictive as Book 1
( Queen Of Thieves ) you can read as a standalone but for me it would be better to read in order
All the characters from Book 1 are back and this time grittier, nastier and more scheming, this book is set mostly in Soho with Notting Hill and Elephant and Castle also being featured
It was quite sad in parts and some storylines did have me surprised at their outcomes, there is a tendency for happy endings in some books ( which is great ) not so in this book and I was genuinely shocked when some characters left the story
It really shows how cutthroat the 1950’s underworld was, especially for women and there are harrowing themes explored, however be in no doubt some of the women are equally as ruthless
I really have enjoyed these books and look forward to Book 3, ( I found this out after the lengthy authors notes at the end which are fascinating and a good inclusion to the story ) they are well written and compulsive reads
A awesome follow up to a incredibly great book. It's on its way to being a great series. So many twists and turns that I didn't see coming at all.
Excellent follow up to the first book. Loved this story which was well written with many twist abs turns hoping this series will continue as it was left on a cliff hanger.
Looking forward to another instalment
Highly recommended
The life of luxury comes at a price.
London gangland series book two and once again this is one cracking read.
Joining the forty thieves. Nell Kane is shoplifter by day and nightclub Rubies owner by night after taking the crown from Alice Diamond.
This is no fairy tale.
Zoe is going places not had a very good life with her mother makes her way to Soho and meets up with Rose who takes her home to Maud who gives her digs and to apply for a job of been a dancer in Rubies club as revenge to Nell Kane and flirt with her fella Jimmy Feeney, She has no choice but to go along with Maud or she is out on her ear.
Now working for the Queen of clubs and is a big hit with the punters and with Jimmy.
But Alice Diamond is not finished and Revenge on Nell will not be sweet.
Oh my goodness what a story that has its revenge and twists in every single chapter.
The author brings out all the good and bad out in the characters that is mind blowing to read.
This book I am sure will make a best seller, it's full of action and wholesome goods, I just could not put it down, and cannot wait for Diamonds but are they really the Queen of the pack? that's another story to look forward to.
Top stars and more for this gripping book that is turning into one of my favourite series.
