With thanks to the author, publishers Collins Reference, and NetGalley for providing me with an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
This is a really informative and fact-filled book that any Formula1 fan will enjoy! Packed with cool photographs of drivers and cars from all eras of the sport, and detailed histories of each of the 77 tracks that have ever hosted a Formula 1 race, this book is a must-have for any serious Formula 1 enthusiast!
A book that does just what you'd want it to – as well as have slack proofreading and editing. First out in 2015, this is the edition fully updated in the middle of the 2022 season, and manages to take us right through the history of the sport of F1, track by track. It covers all the arenas of action, in historical order of their first race, hence the age of the first few that were around long before Grands Prix were really a thing. All get the same treatment, namely a snap summary (in half sentences, and sometimes with Yoda levels of comprehensibility), a full page of the history and description, a full photo page, and then the spread showing the map. This covers the current route, and the track bed of old (sometimes with dates of the change, sometimes not). The maps also manage to ghost on to things what is there now (a shopping mall, a Caesars Palace extension into the back car park), which is handy for the extinct tracks.
You also get captions on the map, much more often than not repeating what the text gave us, and a databank of dates, top winners, fastest lap holder (until they forget to actually mention who holds that at Imola), and so on. But the heart of the book is still a love of the whole thing, and whether it's the Nordschleife or one of those inane processions so boring it has to be done under street lamps to make it look even vaguely photogenic, we get that in these pages. OK, sometimes we get the author having his cake and eating it – a horrendous venue is sorely missed, one with atrocious staff should never have been left to rot – but the author can report the history well, and level-headedly takes us through all the geopolitics of each race, and we cannot argue too much. Yes, we needed this to be much better than it is, but it's the kind of book we very much needed in any decent form.
Thought this was done really well - great maps of the circuits and plenty of information to go along with it. Would happily get this for any F1 fans.
A perfect gift for F1 fans. This books gives information about circuits from the ones no longer used currently in F1 like Brands Hatch to the new circuits that we saw this year in Miami. With a picture of the lap and little bits of information with fastest lap times.
With each circuit there is a brief history of the track.
I would happily have this given to me for Christmas.
A brilliant must-read for any fans of F1. The information was really interesting as well as the graphics. The notes on different areas of the tracks were also welcome additions as I found myself learning some interesting parts of F1 history.
well displayed and wonderful imagery sprinkled with fun facts about the different tracks. A great gift for any fan of formula one, as the book dives deeper than regular coverage, giving fascinating insight into the history of tracks, both new and old, and educates on the tracks now forgotten by many. Its only flaw is that its facts of winners becomes obsolete as the season progresses.
Thank you to NetGalley and Collins publishing for the opportunity to review this in exchange for an honest review. Firstly, that Juan Manuel Fangio was quite a driver by the looks of it. I enjoy the formula one but would not suggest I am a fan in any way. I can name a number of drivers, current and older and I know a few tracks, stats and have actively watched some of the documentaries so I was looking forward to reading this and increasing my general knowledge. What I didn’t realise was how many tracks there have been over the years and the casualty’s that have gone with these. Heartbreaking to think how many have lost their lives and it continues to happen on some even now. That said, it’s unlikely to stop, particularly when it is a sport that is enjoyed by the masses. A really fascinating and interesting reference book - will be so much better in actual print than on kindle too.
This is a perfect book for F1 fans and petrolheads. A great book cataloguing all the race tracks, loads of geeky facts and statistics, and super photographs. Will make a perfect gift for motor fans.
This Book has an Excellent reference of data and detailed information. Quite specific and interesting for those who like the theme or seek to have it centralized..
(Thanks to Net Galley, Maurice Hamilton & Collins for this Book).
Formula 1 has a long history across the world, with many different circuits having hosted grand prix. This book is a great compilation of the facts, figures, stories and design of these tracks.
A great book for fans who are new to the sport, and for those who have been watching for a while, who will still be likely to learn something new.
My brother is a huge formula one fan, and as a result over the years I've found out information about the sport, so this book interested me a lot.
I enjoyed learning the information and as I also like history it was really great to see some of the photos of the older cars and tracks.
For a fan of formula 1 this is a must have for your collection. It's a good addition.
