This book was deliciously creepy. I read during spooky season and it did not disappoint! Perfect for the dark cold nights
In 1943, the Michell Manor becomes a horrific crime scene when the family and the staff are all found murdered. Theodore the lone survivor goes missing and is then condemned for this crime. Years later, Elle is a writer, she discovers the history of this manor and decides to stay there for inspiration. Soon after she takes up residence there, strange and unexplained events occur. Elle is soon discovers the terrifying secrets of the manor. A short ghost story with an entertaining plot and strong characters. The book is a short read, but it gives the reader enough information in a short amount of time to keep the reader engaged. A great ghost story.

The characters are just so well written and realistic, the tension is built so effectively and you really do have no idea where the storyline is going or what the outcome is going to be! It has the twist, turns and surprises that you'd expect and the plot is constantly moving forward which I loved! I enjoyed every second of this one!!! It takes some real talent to take a basic premise that has been done multiple times and then somehow still make it unique!
This short novella is a ghost story with many twists and turns. I enjoyed the story overall though the love story was a little too instant love for my tastes.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
This was a great novella of a ghost story.
I usually prefer longer books but this was able to fit a lot into an easy to read short version.
I love my ghost stories and thrillers.
A nice easy read you can finish in a few hours and will enjoy.
I’m not usually a fan of novellas but this was really good. It was a super fast read and I was able to read it in just a few hours. It was really creepy in a good way which I love. Thank you to the publisher and netgalley. I recommend it to anyone who will give this one a chance
A super-fast paced Ghost story with a few twists and turns to keep you turning the page.
This ghost story in modern times was just what I needed. The storyline blended well with the past & present to paint a truly haunting read. If ghost stories are up your alley, check this one out.
I’m on the fence with this one. It was a super fast read but I think it could have benefited from being a little longer. Maybe it’s just me but I wanted more from the characters. That being said I think this author has great storytelling skills. I will definitely check out more.
I love books like this. A little bit of history, a ghost story and a good plot. I loved the three main characters and how they developed throughout the story. This is a definite must read for anyone who loves a good ghost story. Only thing that I did not love was the ending and was a bit confused by it. I actually thought my book didn't finish downloading the whole book.
This book creeped me out in a good way and i couldnt put it down honestly this author will become one of my favorites. The writing was so fast pace i read in only a few hours.
This was an ok, fast read. I'm not really a novella fan but I love a good ghost story so I was thrilled with the ARC. What fell flat for me was the two main characters being almost identical and underdeveloped. Perhaps if it were longer, the author would have been able to flesh them out a bit more
I do enjoy some haunted house stories set in small towns, or near them, with some creepy history. I feel like the story started really strong, and I loved so many elements of the beginning.
Elle Lewis, a writer, rents Mitchell Manor to get away for some alone time and inspiration as she works on her next book. There are some weird occurrences, of course, as soon as she arrives. Nothing too drastic, but things begin to get more problematic as the days pass. Of course, she goes in to town to meet the locals (that always adds more questions).
Backstory … we need to know why there are ghosties …. She turns to locals and some snooping to discover the home’s history. In 1843, the successful & well liked, Theodore Mitchell’s family and his hold staff were found murdered at their home, Mitchell Manor. Mitchell himself wasn’t found, but was assumed guilty of the incident.
This was a short and easy read. I think I actually expected a lot more action and spook. I loved the beginning, but think the later part needs some work to hold interest.
I was provided a complementary digital ARC copy or Mitchell Manor for review purposes. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.
Thank you NetGalley for accepting my request to read and review Mitchell Manor.

Right around 100 pages, I call Novella; in this case, I see a long short story. This is a nice pick for a rainy or snowy day, if you are looking for a quick read.
There are strange occurrences in the house and people are there when needed. The mandatory creepy town and its people are present. I'm not spoiling, but will say, I would love BeBe. The superficial dueling love interest brought the cheesy factor way up.
If edited, this would make an interesting true short story or long magazine story.
This is independently published, sadly, it feels like a rough draft. I will say, I teared up the second time I read the ending. I didn't see it coming and wouldn't want it for me.
Given the right place and time, I would gift this.
A haunted house story just in time for Spooky season- sign me up! I was really excited to jump into this book. I wouldn't really call it a novel though, it's more of a short story- as I was able to read it pretty much in one sitting.
The premise of this book had a lot of promise. A creepy house where strange things keep happening. 2 studly love interests. A town and families with secrets. An unsolved mystery...and more. But, I felt like this book really fell short. The ideas were there, the setup was good. But, it felt incomplete. Like this was the outline for a book that hasn't been written yet. There were plot holes, and not enough character development. There were things left unexplained- and there wasn't enough information to make any of the characters relatable. I wanted to love this story- and I think it has a lot of potential. But, there just wasn't enough there for me to say much about. I'd like to see what else this author can do- because the setup for this novella was excellent. I think it could have been really creepy and the characters would have been likeable had we had a little more information...
I enjoyed this book as I love ghost stories and haunted houses But I would say it was more geared toward YA than adult fiction or thriller!!
This book did have alot of creepy moments and it was a short easy read although it was a bit basic it was still well written and I think anyone who enjoys a good ghost story will enjoy this book as well!
Much thanks to #netgalley and the author/publisher for allowing me to read and review this ARC
All thoughts and opinions are my own
This read like a very elaborate fireside ghost story, but that's where the fun ended. The story itself was disjointed and didn't always make sense. The writing was very basic and didn't leave much to the imagination- everything was spelled out for the reader. I'm not quite sure I understand what happened in the end, either.
Review to come end of October on blog/goodreads.
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
I was so happy to see a new haunted house mystery pop up over at Netgalley. I just love it! Especially with this spooky time. And this was a bit hit/miss in the end. Had fun moments, spooky moments, but at times it just frustrated or confused me.
The mystery of the mansion. I loved it. Loved the little messages on the laptop. Loved the whispers. The ghostly visions. The evil laughter and the children's laughter (even if the last one wasn't too bad in the end which is a change from normal). It was fun seeing her uncover new things, hints, and facts. Though I did think it was all a bit easy? I don't know. I mean, here we have Evan and Harrison both from the families that had something to do with what happened in the past and neither of them knew what was going on and one even found out new things about his family which was just odd.
Bebe and Bart were such terrific characters and I absolutely loved them. I knew instantly what they were, but they seemed to be good and I loved how they were there for Elle, accepting her, being kind.
The house was fun, especially with how things worked. How it seems dark from outside but light inside. How a certain person couldn't go to the house. How the time/temperatures/seasons would change. And more.
I also liked Elle, she was fun and I loved that she wasn't thrown off when things started to get scarier. I loved that she was determined to figure out what was going on. Go Elle!
It was also great fun to read about this little town and see some of the people who lived there. The sisters at the post office? Would have loved to meet them in real life. They seem so friendly and fun to be around.
But I just wasn't such a big fan of the multiple characters. I really liked Elle. But then it would switch over to Harrison, Evan, or someone else. It just confuddled me and I think I would have rather had just one POV. Just follow Elle and her time in the manor.
The love triangle. Those who know me know that I generally HATE them. I wasn't a fan how Elle went for Evan first, even having him over for the night and almost kissing him, and then the next day kissing Harrison with a lot of love. I am glad that she decided on who to go for, but yeah, it just wasn't my thing. Plus, it distracted from the story.
While I did love how things were resolved with the ghosts? I did feel a bit rushed. A bit boom done. I had just hoped for a bit more excitement.
The ending. On the one hand it was a pretty nice and big twist.. on the other hand, what the actual fuck? I am so confused at this point. What happened? How? Why? Did I miss something? But just a bit ago it was x? And now it is y? That definitely made my rating go down even more.
At times there were some errors in the text. Words missing or just sentences being a bit weird.
All in all, despite some things that weren't working out for me, I am happy I read this book. Happy I found it. It had its good moments.
Thank you so much to NetGalley for providing me with a complimentary digital ARC for Mitchell Manor. The honest opinions expressed in this review are my own.
The Mitchells were one of the most affluent families in the area. However, in 1843, Theodore Mitchell’s family and household staff were found murdered.
Soon after, Theodore disappears. People believe he committed the crime. What would cause a calm, charming individual to completely snap and kill his family?
100 years later, Elle Lewis is a writer looking for inspiration. She rents Mitchell Manor in hopes of writing her next book. When she arrives at the manor, weird events start to occur. She tries to ignore what’s happening, but things escalate to the point she can’t ignore them any longer. She decides to research exactly what happened the night of the murders 100 years ago. Will she be able to solve the case before something happens to her?
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It was a short and easy story. I don’t think there was a lot of character development compared to longer stories. The two guys seemed to act the same. But it was definitely a surprise ending. I love ghost stories and haunted houses.
I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys short ghost stories!
This is a well written, fascinating story with a touch of romance and humor. It's very hard to put down because it's not scary, mysterious. I loved the characters, they were not what I expected. I very highly recommend this book for anyone.
In 1843 a family is murdered. The man who they said had killed his family and servants disappeared, never to be heard from again.
in 2022, Elle Lewis, a writer, rents Mitchell Manor to have a place to finish her next book. Mitchell Manor is in a small town so it is a quiet place for her to accomplish this task.
Upon arrival, there are servants there of which she knew nothing about. A butler and a cook, she thinks that this is pretty cool. As she settles into her new home, strange things start to happen. The servants can tell what she wants even before she does.
The back story to the haunting of this house is that in 1843, Theodore Mitchell murdered his family and servants, or did he? He disappeared and was never found. Elle is intrigued by the story and starts researching the family. She questions people in town and finds that she feels responsible to find out what happened to the family.
What she finds has disturbing consequences.
Mitchell Manor is a short read, only 86 pages but I felt that it was written surprisingly well. A story that had me turning the pages in one sitting. I love a good ghost story and this one did not disappoint. Kind of a sad story also. The fate of one family rested in one person's hands and that person was not a good person.
I give this book a 5-star rating.
