Goodbye, Anger by Marie Zhang is a book about a brother and sister who are upset when there Mom does not follow through with a promise. Instead of blowing up in anger, the siblings do different activities to channel their anger—like playing and singing. I think Goodbye, Anger would be a good resource for adults to use in helping kids with anger. I highly recommended this book. Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this book. My review is also on Goodreads.
Such a great book for little ones! This book is a great way to discuss emotions and ways to deal with them. Great conversation starter.
This was super cute - would be a great addition to my pre-k classroom. I really enjoyed the story, and the illustrations were adorable
A very simple to understand book in learning how to regulate the emotion of anger. But a bit too simplified? I feel that anger is such a strong emotion and it doesn’t get resolved as easily, but the steps to try to were easy enough to attempt. But I guess that’s the point too, to try first. And then proceed on to the next step…
Received a gifted copy; opinions are my own.
This was a sweet rhyming book about how someone you trust can help you handle tough feelings, especially anger and disappointment. The boy main character usually explodes when unexpected changes occur, but his sister knows how to keep her cool. She helps him with many strategies to calm down until he's ready to express why he was feeling upset. I think it showed some good strategies for kids to try and I know many children would connect with either one or both of the main characters. My complaints are mainly about the rhyming writing and lack of resolution with the mom. The rhyming text was fine, but not great. It almost downplayed the realness of strong feelings when you're in the red zone. The ending with mom just didn't do it for me. I'm sure kids will not notice or care, but for me it could have been stronger.
Goodbye Anger is a picture book about a little boy that gets angry when his mom doesn’t take him out after she gets distracted. He asks his sister for ideas on dealing with his anger and then they both try those strategies to calm down. The book is a bit choppy and is a little lacking in strategies but some good can come from it if you’re reading with your young kids and talk about additional strategies. I wasn’t a fan of how the mom was portrayed but overall it’s an okay book.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book for my honest opinion.
This story was an absolute delight to read from the first page to the last. A tale about little people handling big emotions, the author does a fabulous job making sure young readers understand their feelings are valid instead of punished.
This story was entertaining and educational, which can be a tricky balance to maintain in a children’s book, and I will be suggesting it to teachers whenever possible. Mental health is such a critical part of childhood that often gets overlooked. Incorporating social and emotional education into children's picture books is a tried and true way to teach an important life skill in a way that is fun. This would be an amazing addition for classroom libraries, counselling offices and more.
This story was adorably illustrated. There are many parts that will make for excellent discussion points, such as what makes us angry, triggers, how to use our words, and how to handle an outburst. This can be used in lessons about coping skills and anger, as well as character and life skills.
A lovely, simple, easy to read story about how to control your anger. My children loved the illustrations and how the story rhymes.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic copy to read in exchange for an honest review.
This is a quick book that provides very simple solutions on what to do when you get angry. It would be a good starting point to identify strategies that children can use when they have anger.
The story was cute and did have some good ideas on how to control your anger.
I did not like the kids keeping the source of their anger in for so long though. I think that would be the first thing I would recommend after counting and taking deep breaths.
I'm not sure how I feel about this story. The anger managing ideas were all good, but would be great in a different order
I really enjoyed this book and the message that comes over
The illustrations are great and they really bring the story to life
I liked the way that the book was written too, it has a great flow to the story
It is 4 stars from me for this one – highly recommended!
It is a lovely little read and one I can see being a hit for schools
A lovely story that would be great for a classroom setting or an individual reader. It shows Max getting very angry and lists the ways that he can help to calm himself down. Beautifully illustrated too. Thanks go to Netgalley and the author for providing a temporary copy in exchange for an honest review
When their mom made a promise to take both Max and his sister to the mall, they are let down when their mom forgets. Max feels angry about the situation, but how come his sister is so calm?
I thought this book was easy to read, and the message was simple. The illustrations were awesome! They fit the text and message of the story. I would’ve loved to see more ways to manage our feelings. Other than that, a great way to show how our emotions comes to the surface.
How to manage ones anger is a challenging task, but it’s great to find ways to manage that before erupting to whatever is making you angry. It can be easier said than done, but as I’ve seen mostly adults talk through their anger, it would’ve been a much better conversation for the adult to step away, and like they do in this book, count to ten and fix your mind elsewhere before going back and telling the other person why you are mad.
A great book to start a conversation about your feelings of anger, and a way to managing them.
Happy reading!♥️
A sweet, short book about young children dealing with disappointment and anger. It is age appropriate and easy for kids to understand. The book is well written and well illustrated. The story? Mom promises to take the kids to the Mall and then gets busy and forgets and the kids get angry and they try to work off their anger by distraction, such as by playing, and that brings them to the point where they can talk to Mom about their concerns. Spoiler: it has a happy answer and the kids go to the, well, don't let me spoil it for you. It is a good book about placing anger in perspective and learning to talk about your concerns, so that anger doesn't consume you.
i struggle with anger as well and that is why i requested this book.
it was short but has a good advice. I'll try it.
thanks to the publisher for the copy!
Goodbye, Anger is a picture book to help children learn to regulate their emotions when feeling upset. It gives a couple of suggestions for how to relieve stress in the moment and to communicate negative feeling when calm. The illustrations are nice and this would be excellent for 3-4 year olds.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for providing this ARC. All thoughts are my own.
