This was an enjoyable read where I felt cosy and like I was really there experiencing it all with them! Amazing book if youโre looking for an autumn read!
I have to be in the right mood to read a book and I tried and tried to read this one over and over again and each time it didn't take my interest.
I really wish the author had taken time to develop certain storylines in this book but that didn't happen. That unfortunately led to me not feeling engaged with the story and it took me a long time to read it.
I feel like this would be perfect for other people but unfortunately it wasn't for me.

Noelle was intriguing from the beginning. A cleaner who steals things but has so many layers. once you find out her backstory, it all makes sense. i also loved the other cleaners in the hotel, its a strong found family.

i almost cried at the chapters about Noelles past, so the writing is good. very blunt and standoffish, Noelles voice was portrayed perfectly through the writing.

I would have preffered to read less about every individual item she stole and got more backstory, but thats just preference. overall, this was a good read.

"All I know is, if I hadnโt discovered the thrill of taking things, I might never have bothered with life at all"
Noelle is a hotel cleaner, but not your typical one. Having been dealt an awful hand with her blood family, will she find her family in hotel 21?
I really enjoyed this book, I felt it was a little slow in places, and a little rushed in others but overall it was worth the read.
Having had a terrible blood family, Noelle finds pleasure stealing small inconsequential items from hotel guests where she works. Things change for her when she finds herself amongst a family of people who care about her. She is loved and this has a warming effect on her as a person. A feel good book that restores your faith in friendship. You can't help but love it.
The dual storyline was a nice touch and one which helped you navigate Noelle but I do feel like it was a bit back and forth constantly which made it hard to follow at times. This also made it feel a little bit rushed at points and as if the author was trying to get to the next chapter as quick as possible. Still a nice little mystery and one which will be popular
Felt the story was abit all over and found it hard to keep track! And parts were quite repetitive. I did like the way we got dual timeline so could get an idea of how Noelle thinks and her past.
A very sharp and poignant debut.
Hotel 21 follows the life of maid Noelle as she finally reaches her 21st Hotel (hence the name). She is a kleptomaniac and likes to take guests possessions and sees them as some sort of reward. The act of stealing
gives her an adrenaline rush that is addictive.
Upon beginning Hotel 21, I instantly thought that Noelle had no redeeming qualities and couldn't understand how I was supposed to connect with her as a character. However as the story went on and we delve deeper in to Noelle's past all becomes a little clearer.
Does she manage to stay at Hotel 21 for longer than a few weeks before being caught? Also upon doing some research it seems the author is an honorary Dubliner, now living here with her family.
No reason not to give this one a go no matter the format.
This story is really all about Noelle. Such a character! She is a thief of the oddest kind. This is a different book with almost a comic feel but not truly as Noelle is very needy and obviously has issues from her upbringing and around mental state. You will probably fall in love with her and will her on but hen maybe not; it depends on your own situation as a reader and how you view the world. An interesting and entertaining read.
3.5 Stars
I enjoyed the storyline and the sentiment behind this book, and the characters were great but I felt that it was a bit rushed at points and I would have enjoyed a bit more of the backstory of all of the different characters. Overall an enjoyable read.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for an advanced digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Hotel 21 is a rich book that gives us insight in growing up with an abusive parent. So beware of certain triggers.
I like the way this book was set up and we get to follow Noelle through her different hotels, and her childhood. The characters are each so precious and clearly well written. Rich's writing style makes the experience of reading this book a bit dreamlike and is therefor highly recommended.
It's pure happy bliss.
Noelle is a hotel cleaner. However she is not your run of the mill cleaner. She has a secret- she can't stop herself from taking things from the rooms. She doesn't take anything valuable just little insignificant things- a set of tweezers, a hair clip, a lip gloss- & she logs each thing & where she took it from. This proclivity has meant that she has moved around a lot. Hotel 21 is a five star establishment. On her first day she finds herself in the seventh floor group. The key to her success has always been to get in with her group so that should any suspicion be raised they will stand up for her. Hotel 21 however is nothing like she has experienced before. The group are a mixed but close one & take Noelle to their hearts. Can she change after all this time.
This was a lovely book. Noelle had had a very rough time & could understand why she took things. The other characters were wonderful too. Thanks to Netgallery & the publisher for letting me read & review this book.
Hotel 21 is an absolute heart-warming read with some unforgettable characters. We follow Noelle, who works as a cleaner in hotels. Noelle is just about to start work in her 21st hotel and is preparing to enact her usual routine - get staff to like and trust her, pilfer random insubstantial items from guests and move on to her next hotel. But once she starts working at this particular hotel, things become different for her. She starts feeling like she belongs and actually bonds with other members of staff. The women are not only welcoming towards Noelle, but they support each other and have each others backs. Noelle, for the first time in a very long time, begins to feel accepted and that she may have finally found her place and her people.
Noelle has a heartbreaking back story of abuse and neglect at the hands of her mother shown within flashbacks through the story. This was cleverly done to not only explain why Noelle is the way she is but to help you understand her more, too.
If you're a lover of found family, supportive communities, and unforgettable characters, you need look no further than Hotel 21!
A wonderfully character-led story, centred around Noelle, who has never believed she's worth anything in life, and steals worthless things from other people's lives in return. Noelle has spent the last few years moving from hotel to hotel, cleaning and stealing - and once she's accused of anything untoward, she quietly slips away and reappears in another hotel cleaning job on the other side of the country. The book is peppered with lists of all the items that she has stolen from each location, scissors, belts, small things.
She meets a formidable group of women in her 21st hotel and finds herself wanting to become part of the 7th Floor tequila crew. Noelle has played a different character in every hotel she's been in - can she drop her guard to show her true self, and what will happen if she does?
Noelle is such a strong character, she doesn't know how much she has overcome already and her sense of self-preservation has come good. Watching her slowly show herself to her new friends was such an emotional scene, it was a revelation for everyone.
Any book recommended by @erickawaller1 is going to be a hit with me & Hotel 21 hit the spot perfectly. A page-turning emotional read!
I loved this book. The character of Noelle has kleptomani and is a heartbreaking character, she has been through at lot during her childhood and now works as a hotel cleaner but doesn't stay long in a job until she gets to hotel 21 and meets the seventh floor crew. A brilliant book that has you hooked from beginning to end!
I am very grateful to have received this book.
Based on a character who suffers with kleptomania you follow her journey from pillar to post. Except one post is a little harder to move and whilst the complications of life gets in the way but the beauty of new friendships show her what life can really be like.
The flash backs are harrowing but the writer leaves you knowing this character almost as if a personal friend.
I would gladly deliver a five flower review for this one.
Noelle works very efficiently as a hotel cleaner; but she takes small items from a number of the hotel rooms, eventually leaving before she is caught out and moving on to the next hotel. She takes items of no particular value, and often not missed by the owner, but its a compulsion she has.
However, as we learn of Noelle's childhood, we forgive her this peccadillo - her mother was an abusive, hateful woman, so Noelle pretty much brought herself up. We meet Noelle at hotel 21, the twentyfirst she has worked at. Throughout the book the author cleverly inserts snippets so that we learn about some of the other hotels she worked at, and other teams she worked with.
At Hotel 21 she is given floor 7, with a tight-knit team of ladies. Noelle likes to fit in and make friends, so if anything is reported missing, the girls will stand with her. But this team is like no other, and Noelle finds herself with new feelings and experiences, as her life takes a new turn. But will she keep stealing?
A great read, with a really unusual hook, that I enjoyed from start to finish. Thank you to NetGalley and Bloomsbury Publishing PLC for allowing me access to the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Noelle is a heartbreaking character, the trauma she has been through is indescribable and seeing how it manifested into a very unusual kleptomania was quite fascinating.
I was absolutely hooked from the beginning and so hopeful that the magnolia tequila crew would be able to get through her defences and give her the love and friendship sheโd never had from anyone before. I read the whole book in a weekend because I just couldnโt put it down- would absolutely recommend.
A highly entertaining and at times very funny read but there is a deeper meaning to the story.
It is about wearing masks and the need for belonging and acceptance. It's a story that is about a cry out for help and in the end, it shows us how important friends can be and that we should never close ourselves off from people that are reaching out to help us.
Noelle is a cleaner who's worked in 20 hotels already and she is about to enter hotel number 21. She is also a chameleon who wears many masks depending on what the situation requires of her. She can be meek and mild, she can be scatterbrained, she can be feisty; it depends on the situation.
Noelle also has a secret..... She likes to take small items of no value from the rooms she cleans and she's never been caught.
" I don't steal for financial gain. That would make me an ordinary thief and I'm not. I'm a taker of things guests won't notice are gone"
When things seem to get a bit hot for her she packs up and leaves with an excuse of a family emergency.
But who is she really? Who is the real Noelle behind the mask?
As the story unfolds we meet a neglected and abused young girl who does not know the meaning of love and belonging; a girl that is crying out for help.
We follow her story from childhood to all the hotels she's worked in before and all the different people she's met.
Will Hotel Magnolia and the women working on floor 7 be her final destination or will she keep on running?
I love all the characters, especially the quirky Mali!
Thank you to Netgalley and Bloomsbury Publishers for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
A tale of loneliness and the discovery of friendship.
Noelle is a hotel cleaner - and a very efficient one at that. Her only issue is that she tends to collect 'souvenirs' from the guests although, usually by the time a complaint is made against her she is long gone. Her transient lifestyle means no friends and a very basic way of living. However, Hotel 21 finds her working with a friendly bunch of women; what would it be like to build friendships?
My heart went out to Noelle and her way of life. Never settling anywhere for any length of time, she was very much on her own - and everyone needs friends, don't they? There is a sadness about her which shone through this well-written novel. The workmates are a group of very different characters - as found in all places of work and I was drawn in to the story quite quickly. Eager to find out where it was heading, I read it quite quickly and am happy to recommend this one. An author to watch. 4.5*
My thanks to the publisher for my copy via NetGalley; this is - as always - my honest, original and unbiased review.
