Noelle shows what it is like to be truly alone she thought for her whole life that she was unloved and unwanted. Substituted love for the need/passion to take things as she puts it. Do the nick-nacks really fill the void?
Hotel 21 comes along floor 7 to be precise, the women working on that floor are all colorful characters all with their own stories to tell. Makes you laugh along with them, but also brings tears as well along the way.
Will she stay or will she go as per normal behavior?
This was such a lovely, unique story. I couldn’t stop reading about Noelle and her work colleagues. This book had everything going for it. Friendships and people who actually cared about each other. Definitely worth more than five stars. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
ARC review
This was the sweetest story!! I finished this in a day because it was so addictive. Noelle... bless her.... I just want to look after her. I'm so so glad she found friendship and happiness. She deserved to be so loved.
I felt so much emotion while reading this. An easy, heart-warming read that I absolutely devoured!
A very beautiful story. Thank you so much NetGalley for the opportunity to be able to read this. I can't wait to read more by this author!
It's an unusual book, a book about life and growing up, facing our fears, living..
I felt for Noelle and her story moved me. She slowly grew on me and I liked the people who were able to accept and give her something positive.
The author is an excellent storyteller and the characters are fleshed out and vivid.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine
I honestly loved this book. I enjoyed all the characters and the plot line. I wasn't really sure how the story would go but it is a nice enjoyable life read. The only reason I drop it a star is because by the end of the book I am still conflicted whether I like Noelle as a character because even though she has growth shes still pretty annoying and I also felt there was no closure to the ending but I mean that happens in real life but would have been nice to see what happens next for her.
Overall a good book and would recommend.
I’d describe this book as realistic fiction. The author has done a fantastic job of creating imaginary characters and situations that depict the world and society. The characters focus on themes of growing, self-discovery and confronting personal and social problems. The language is clear, concise, and evocative, with descriptions that bring the setting and characters to life. Dialogue is natural and authentic, and the pacing is well-balanced, with enough tension and release to keep the reader engaged.
The E-Book could be improved and more user-friendly, such as links to the chapters, and no significant gaps between words and a cover for the book would be better. It is very document-like instead of a book. A star has been deducted because of this.
This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and I would read more of their work. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. Thank you very much to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.
This wasn't really gripping me, I read to the end but it was only OK. Not a page turner for me. Maybe other readers will enjoy it more. All the hotel hopping was a bit manic imo.
I am sorry to say that I just didn't connect to the main character, and the book was not for me .My fault for requesting it, hope others enjoy it more.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book. All opinions are 100% my own.
This book follows Noelle, who is a kleptomaniac as a result of childhood trauma. She moves from job to job cleaning hotels, leaving once she is suspected of stealing guests items.
She gets a job at hotel number 21 and forms a friendship with the other cleaners. This friendship grows and they support each other throughout the book.
The story premise is a great concept and stresses the importance of the people around you. The way the women support each other throughout hard times is beautiful.
Noelle as a main character is naive and clearly dealing with a lot of trauma. She forms a very quick and intense relationship with one of the other cleaners which comes across as a little pointless to the plot.
You know you’ve just finished a really special book when it comes to a close and you miss the main character already. I came to this thinking it was going to be a quirky little story about a quirky little character and I was looking forward to it, I’ve never been so glad to be wrong, it’s so very much not, yet so very much more than that.
The debut novel by Senta Rich revolves around hotel cleaner and kleptomaniac Noelle. Hotel 21 sees Noelle starting a new job at the 21st hotel she’s worked for, the Magnolia. Noelle loves to take items from all of the hotels she has worked at before, storing them in a trunk at home, and she usually leaves after any suspicion or accusations are cast upon her - normally a fake family member has sadly died!
However Hotel 21 is different and Noelle is immediately drawn to her co-workers on the 7th floor, especially Phil. A wonderful story about friendship.
You need to read Hotel 21.
I typically read thrillers, so this was quite the detour for me. But there’s nothing you can criticise in this book. Noelle has stuck with me, her narrative was so beautifully written, her pain and past was palpable. This is a clever book, taking me from disdain to sympathy, such a well written book.
This book is well written and explains certain mental health illnesses, the characters are well spoken and loveable, at times this book was hard to read but overall enjoyable
This book had an interesting premise but it was definitely not as fun as I was expecting and wanting it to be. I knew it was going to incorporate mental health issues but I naively thought it would be uplifting in some small capacity. The descriptions of Noelle’s experiences at previous hotels soon became long-winded and repetitive. Similarly, she often talked about the ‘high’ she felt when stealing, but these scenes lacked any kind of excitement or intrigue.
It didn’t help that I couldn’t connect with Noelle. Her chronic lack of sincerity in her relationships with others prevented me from being sympathetic towards her because she was always playing an angle. Her character growth didn’t move fast enough to get me invested in her journey. When Noelle did start to attempt to make connections with her co-workers, these bonds didn’t feel organic. Even by the end, their friendship group didn’t seem believable.
After this somewhat monotonous and melancholy read, the abrupt ending was almost welcome.
OVERALL: I was expecting an enlightening and uplifting story about the power of friendship. Instead, I found myself getting a glimpse into the tedious and dour look of one woman’s life.
Would I recommend?… Nope, there are many other novels that tackle the topics of mental health and friendship a lot better
I absolutely devoured this!!
The story followed Noelle, who has her fair share of issues! (Note: depictions of Child Abuse and kleptomania due to childhood trauma) She’s recently started a new job at her 21st hotel (link to the name) and she doesn’t intend on staying long, she never does! HOWEVER. She meets the rest of her team. And things change…
First off I’ll start by saying I loved Noelle. I think she was a really well written, believable character and her struggles came through very well.
The story itself is written so well. The trauma storyline gets me everytime, and seeing how it then weaves its way into her adult life was just so real and raw. I thought the plot was very original too, with great representations on mental health!
All in all a brilliant read. I read it in one sitting! Thanks to NetGalley & Bloomsbury for this opportunity of this arc!
This book was so lovely, a little slow at times but so heartwarming! Every character was so well developed- even the side characters like Monica and Freddy felt like real people!
The story follows Noelle as she begins working as a cleaner at the 21st hotel of her career, she doesn’t intend to stay long- she never does- until she meets the rest of her team.
I also loved the explanations and flashbacks to previous hotels she had worked at.
this was just such a hopeful book- it really brought a smile to my face.
well, what a surprise. This is not my usual type of book, (nobody got murdered). However the title appealed to me since I work in an Hotel!!!! And I loved it. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it was well written and flowed nicely.. I liked the characters and I liked the insight to Kleptomania. It was a very interesting book and I would definately reccommend. I would have liked just a tiny bit more background / childhood stuff which could have been more dark and sinister. GREAT BOOK
I totally loved this book and quickly fell in love with the character Noelle. Noelle is a kleptomaniac who works as a hotel cleaner in order to steal. The book is called Hotel 21 as this is the number of hotels she has worked at. Once suspicions are raised then Noelle leaves her life behind and finds another job.
A product of an abusive childhood I quickly came to empathise and adore the character. I read this book in about a day, a real page turner.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Hotel 21 was a well written book with a lot of emotions involved. The lead charcter of Noelle was interesting, very clearly with a lot of issues which we got to explore some of through looks at her past. Coming to the Magnolia Hotel helped to bring help with some of these, and the supporting characters were all fun with interesting backstories of their own. However, sometimes it did feel like there wasn't enough time to fully explore either story of her history or her present. Jumping back and forth so often meant you were just starting to feel for one aspect of the character and her story before you were thrust back to another aspect without being able to fully invest in either. I woud have loved to read so many more pages of interactions with Maili, Rose, Gaby and Phil, and perhaps even moreso, Freddy, who I feel could have brought a very interesting presence to to Noelle's life. Noelle's relationship, such as it was, with Phil felt a little rushed, and I could understand that to an extent from Noelle having had a lack of love in her life growing up, but there wasn't enough exploration of the characters to feel anyting for it fully, or to see it from either perspective because there was very little exploration of the lives of the other women, there was a general mention of what they were but things happened very quickly and with so much else going on that it was hard to fully connect.
In general though, it was definitely an enjoyable book, and I was glad to see the bond the characters had and how Noelle was so easily brought into that, and cared for. I rate it a solid 3.5 stars.
I don't think I have read anything quite like hotel 21 and I simply couldn't stop reading. I felt like I was let inside the secret world of the staff in hotels. Noelle backstory was so heartbreaking and I just wished the best for her. Highly recommend.
