A sweet and heartwarming Christmas love story! 💖
This is such a sweet story, I instantly fell in love with it from the moment I set eyes on the cover - I am a sucker for a WW1 love story, especially when the cover is as beautiful as this (Yes, I am that shallow, that I judge my pretty covers, LOL) Plus it's written by Lauri Robinson who is such a magical writer, I have read quite a few of her books over the years and I have loved each one, but this one far out do's all-overs, this is beautiful and an utter delight to read.
I adored the blossoming romance between Emm and George, their road to happily ever after isn't easy there are quite a few crossroads and roadblocks in their way in the form of life and people who are adamant about getting in the way but the overall story is satisfying and the journey the characters go on feels natural and real..
I loved Emma and George, they have both been through a lot - George more than most after he has just returned home from the front. My only issue with this is Aunt Jill, I thoroughly disliked her from the moment she stepped on the page to the end, I just couldn't find it in myself to forgive all that she had done she did behave shockingly and she deserved bringing down a peg or two. Emma is a saint for putting up with this woman and allowing her to get away with everything she did.
Overall, this book is a heartwarming and delightful story, full of emotion, it's a refreshing change to leave the Regency era behind for a time and become immersed in WW1..

A new author to me
I thoroughly enjoyed this
A great read on a grim Winter day snuggled up with a cuppa
I found this a beautifully written and sweetly romantic book. Although I’ve read a lot of historical romances this is the first one I’ve read that was set in the 1910s and I thought the depiction of post WW1 American life quite fascinating. The characters are all very endearing in their endeavors to help other people and the tone of the book is optimistic and hopeful, The festive setting gives you a warm, cosy feeling and I finished it with a big smile on my face. It’s the perfect book for a winter afternoon, to curl up by the fire with.
Slow and steady and just beautiful. Some winsome and kind characters trying to make love work after the first world war. Emma and George come across as good people that you want to find happiness along with their kind friends. A nasty aunt is woven into the plot, but that is countered by knitting for orphans and work in a school library. A perfect read for escapism to a world of general goodness and generosity.
