I had pretty high expectations for this book because it sounded amazing. It started off a bit slow but once it picked up I was hooked.

Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood books for an early copy of The Widow!!!!! Sorry to say but RIDICULOUS, RIDICULOUS, RIDICULOUS!!!! Too many plots going on and the main character was soooo weird. Definitely farfetched. I'm sorry.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to review this book.

Allison and Peter had the perfect relationship...or did they? When Peter dies under mysterious circumstances, Allison's life is thrown into chaos. All she's ever wanted was stability. Soon, someone from her past turns up, someone who knows the awful thing she did when she was a child. Who can be trusted? Who is friend and who is foe?

There were a lot of twists in this book, which I appreciated. It isn't static or boring. I thought the characters could have used a little more dimension, but all in all this is a good read!

A great book as always, I have read all books now from this author and never been disappointed. Everything was brilliant, well written, well developed characters and a dark twisty story that kept me interested from the beginning until the very last page.

Thank you to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for this brilliant ARC which I have no hesitation in recommending.

This is my first book by Valerie Keogh and oh did I ever enjoy it!!!! A very dark twisty psychological thriller that just kept surprising me with each and every chapter. So many twists thrown in, I felt like I have whiplash. Alison and Peter were only married for 3 months when Peter turns up dead. Alison has a past that no one knows about and she is able to hide all of it for many many years. I can’t wait to read all of Valerie’s other books!! Thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for this early release in exchange for my early review. To be published November 1, 2022.

Valerie Keogh delivers yet another winner of a psychological thriller. Allison marries boring but wealthy Peter. On the night they are to celebrate their 3rd month anniversary the police arrive to inform her he has died in an accident. Seems straightforward enough, but everyone is keeping secrets and not everyone is who they seem to be. Full of shocks and twists and I was glued to the pages!

When Allison meets Peter she can’t believe how lucky she is, to have found someone who is everything she’s ever wanted.
Wealthy, handsome and madly in love with her. They were married in months, now her life would be perfect. Wouldn’t it ???
A twisty tale that will keep you guessing.

An outstandingly dark and chilling psychological thriller….centring around Allison, a lady with a wicked past, her new husband Peter and Jo, a seemingly harmless ‘new friend’ she has made via Facebook reading groups….all 3 have things to hide and all of them have secrets they want to remain hidden….
The main characters are powerful, they evoked reactions in me as I was reading the story, ranging from horrified dislike to outrage, disbelief at their audacity and often I was horrified at their actions…brilliantly crafted characters who did not once let up throughout the story…..it would be impossible to read this book and NOT have a strong feelings/opinion on them
The story itself is fast paced, enjoyable in its shockability………I was hooked right from the go…..and it kept me there to the very last sentence
This is a book that will be hard to forget character and plot wise and would be a great TV 6 parter! Loved it

The Widow is well worth checking out. This is a long one but it’s full of lots of twists and ‘whoa’ moments. You never know who you can’t trust!

Friends, family, suspicious minds…thoughts…secrets…death…love…romance…marriage…disappointment…this talented author has written a novel that has so many red herrings it is impossible to guess the ending. I kept thinking one thing only to discover I was incorrect. This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. It is a cannot put down story. That being said, the language did not add to the book at all. Leave it out…the characters are creepy, hardly likable at all.

Another cracking read from this author
That I just could not put down
Allison meets Peter Fellowes at a party after a few dates, is this the man she has been waiting for? wealthy, nice house, but boring but could she marry for money? when he proposes she accept. But Peter did not tell her everything as she finds out.
Jo Kirby traces Allison through Facebook and arranges a meet up in London she wants to become her new friend but Allison feels she wont be letting the friendship go further and heads home to Peter they were going out to celebrate their three months wedding anniversary.
Waiting for him to arrive a knock on the door an accident at kings cross station she will never see Peter again he is dead.
She calls her only close friend Portia Strong who comes to comfort her with the words Did Peter know you weren't happy? then Jo arrives again she just did not want this woman in her life in her vulnerable state, what is to come is going to shock readers as I read on.
Oh My all three woman have hidden secrets that are not to be trusted, mind blowing devious and startling revelations surface this book kept me hooked right to the end.

The Widow drew me in within the first few pages and I could not put it down! I finished it in less than a day. This was my first Valerie Keogh book, and I love her writing style - short, quick chapters that pull you right into the story. Jo’s character in particular really intrigued me and I had fun trying to figure out her story.

Lots of twists and turns in this book, although the ending fell slightly flat to me. I still enjoyed the book regardless though!

4/5 stars ⭐️

Many thanks to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for the ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts.

Newlyweds Allison and Peter are planning to celebrate their 3 month wedding anniversary, but instead of Peter at the door, the police are there to tell her he died in a tragic accident. But is it a surprise to Allison, is she heartbroken or calculated? Luckily there are friends on hand to support her, or are there, soon it becomes apparent that not everyone can be trusted.
This was a well written thriller that kept me enthralled, it was hard to know whether the main characters should be pitied or whether they were merciless. They ate had their own secrets which slowly but brilliantly unfolded by the conclusion.
Thanks to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for this advanced copy, I'm under no obligation to leave my review

Super fun thriller!

Allison's husband of three months is found dead on the train tracks. She's devasted. Or is she?

Allison has secrets of her own. A woman named Jo is cyber stalking her, then stalking her in person. She knows what Allison has done.

It's a good thing Allison has friends to depend on. Or does she?

Lots of twists and turns, thoroughly enjoyable reading experience.

It took me a while to settle into reading this which surprised me as I have read more by the author and liked them from the start, and then the story took off and kept me gripped right to the last page and without ruining the plot , thought it was a good end as it became apparent that something could change her mind in the future and I know that idea will stay with me for a long time.

The Widow by Valerie Keogh

Allison and Peter have been married three months. It is a wonderful marriage... or is it? When Peter turns up dead, Allison knows she must control her emotions. She has a dark secret and must keep her past hidden during the investigation of Peter's death. This may not prove to be an easy task.

Valerie Keogh's brand new book The Widow focuses on Allison, an intricate character with a shocking past. Keogh's perception of Allison's mental state creates a delicious emphasis on conflict and mind-bending tension. Allison's social circle is revealed for a thrilling read with intriguing plot twists.

The Widow is Valerie Keogh's twenty second novel. The best-selling author's career as a registered nurse recently ended so she could focus on her writing career. This is my second book by this mega talented writer. Valerie Keogh always delivers for psychological thriller fans.

The Widow is available on November 1st.

Thank you, NetGalley, Boldwood Books, Valerie Keogh, and Rachel's Random Resources for sharing this outstanding book with me.

Allison is the eldest of three children and had a rather bleak childhood. Her parents both died in a car accident and she is now living in London working as an accountant. Her friend Portia, it appears, has married for money and this sparks an idea with Alison when she meets Peter, a lawyer. He isn't the swish person she once imagined he might be and drives around in an old ford fiesta. However he inherited his house from his parents so Alison's initial reservations soon change and within a few short months they are married and Alison’s plan is starting to form. She has met a friend online who appears to have lots of similar interests and they meet for lunch. Little does Alison know that Jo set up the meeting as they have crossed paths in the past and Jo is out for revenge.
This is one of those reads that quickly grabs the reader and then keeps hold. As one small door is opened, another twist of the plots spirals around, just as I like it. I found myself smiling (a wry smile) at Allison and her plotting, perhaps thinking of what appears important to some, doesn't always work out and make them as happy as they first thought. A huge twist in the middle changed my line of thinking for the umpteenth time. so cleverly is this written. A brilliant, captivating twisty read with a wonderful ending.
