I am surprised by how much I enjoyed Killjoy by Jo Cheetham on audio, given that I had struggled to get into it initially when reading the ebook.

Although, more than once, I thought, "She quoted conversations from an activist organising Facebook group word for word" while shaking my head! 😱 To be fair, it is made explicitly clear at the beginning that the people involved signed off on those conversations appearing in the book. But it still weirded me out!

I absolutely LOVED this book! Everyone should read this.

I can't remember the page 3 movement but I wish I had because this book is fantastic. Well written and I couldn't put it down!

Funny, inspiring and fantastic!

Thank you netgalley!

A fascinating look at a key turning point in British history - the end of Page 3 in The Sun. Jo Cheetham was a reluctant activist who joined the No More Page 3 campaign and became involved with a close-knit group of women bringing the sexist institution down. The No More Page 3 campaign was a feminist movement very of its time (early 2010s feminism is very different than 2023 feminism I think), and I wish Cheetham had also explored how The Sun is so problematic in other ways, even with Page 3 now gone.

Jo Cheetham was one of a group of women who took on The Sun and demanded an end to Page 3. This is her story. It is non-fiction that reads like good fiction. Well written, with passion and sensitivity, not only will you laugh and cry along with Jo, you will wish you had been with her on the demos and will definitely want to be her friend.
I can’t wait to be able to buy this book for friends and for my teenage daughter and her friends. Born in 1964, I grew up with page 3. I confess that I had forgotten how awful it was and the sexist and predatory behaviour it encouraged. Thank goodness that the campaign was successful - and the book is an excellent reminder of how far we have come.
Thank you to Jo Cheetham for all she did at the time and for writing this fabulous book, which I absolutely loved. I will be raving about it!
