After a breathtaking foray into the pages of this book, who wouldn't want to take to the road for a stunning trip around the North Coast 500? The route is intriguing, the photographs are marvellous, and the history is mesmerizing. I loved the way this book helps to create a strong sense of place for all of the destinations along the way. Each spot is steeped in centuries of stories or natural wonder, and the descriptions and images bring that out beautifully. There are also helpful practical tips, including how much time to allow per stop.
For the traveller eager to be educated and inspired, this book is perfect.

North Coast 500 by Emma Gibbs is a stunning travel book. Indeed the North Coast 500 (NC 500) is a visually phenomenal experience to drive with a dramatic and ever changing landscape filled with castles, ruins, beaches, coves and nature.

I particularly liked the fact that the book is divided into geographic sections: The NorthWest; The North Coast; Inverness-shire & The Black Isle, etc. Also, the the focus of the book is on the places themselves, including a little history, and providing useful tips on visiting e.g. how long to allocate for your visit, the best places to park and access tips to remote beaches. This book does not provide information on places to eat, stay, etc, which could age the book - all that information is so readily available online anyway.

I’ve recently visited the Highlands, but only took in a quarter of the North Coast 500 on my way up to visit family. I’m going to use the book to base my next trip up to visit family, travelling the NC 500 anti-clockwise!

Huge thanks to NetGalley and the publishers Collins for an ARC.

This is a wonderful book, to thoroughly whet the appetite of anyone embarking on the now iconic North Coast 500, a road trip in the rugged Highlands of beautiful Scotland. This book takes us off the beaten track, showing us all the sights we need to see to fully immerse ourselves in this experience.

Being a native of the Highlands, one of the first thing I noted is that this book is timeless, in that it doesn't recommend businesses that can change quickly, rather it focuses on landmarks that truly stand the test of time,

Photography is beautiful, and gives a flavour of the trip. Detours that are worthy of a visit are recommended, giving this book an edge over simple internet guides! Also included is historical information, to guide a sense of occasion and context to the landmarks.

The book is divided into sections that align with the route. Overall, a lovely book I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. My thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an advance copy.

My other half has been wanting to do the NC500 for I don’t know how long and I suppose I haven’t really been too enthusiastic about it until now. I saw this and thought it might help provide me with greater insight and make him more likely to get his wish. The pictures in this are stunning. Who knew we had all this on our doorstep. I love that it’s all coded and the timings to explore are great as for someone like me who likes to plan and itinerise it’s perfect to get the most seen. A really great reference book and definitely one I will be using when he finally gets to do the NC500.

While there is a lot of information about this tour online, a pocket-sized guide offers many benefits and additional information.
This book contains many valuable tips and insider information for the development of the route. In connection with the map, a real help.
The book is only available in English, but is written in a very understandable way.

For anyone planning to discover and experience the north of Scotland, this book is an absolute must.
Thanks to Net Gallery & Collins Maps for this Book.
