‘Just Say Yes’ is the story of wedding planner Maddie, organising the wedding of American heiress Peyton to Irishman Patrick while being assisted by the best man Lorcan in the couple’s absence,

This book has all the Maxine Morrey trademarks - a woman who is hyper-organised dealing with past trauma who can be difficult and stubborn as a result, a very handsome rich love interest, gorgeous cottages and settings, and a dog. Unfortunately for me I think this just didn’t hit the spot, I found myself skimming through parts as I felt the story got bogged down in the same dynamics -Lorcan being his twinkly self, with Maddie being her grumpy self. While I do love a good gender reversal grumpy/sunshine with the woman as the grump, i think for me it was missing the feeling of more rounded characterisation for both as it started to get old.

Having said all of that, I still enjoyed the book, but because I’ve read all of Maxine Morrey’s previous books I think I’d like to see her get out of doing essentially the same dynamic she has done so for her previous books (and there’s a cameo appearance from two characters from an earlier book). But if you haven’t, I think you’d really enjoy this.

This book starts off interesting enough, I liked the story but it’s maybe too long. It seems to go on and on and on.
The two main characters don’t seem to have a lot in common. Maddie is consumed with her wedding planning job and her lists. Lorcan is against everything wedding even tho he’s the best man.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the early copy

I received an E-ARC with a request for my honest review.

This romantic comedy follows Maddie a wedding planner who has an important wedding to plan. She soon finds herself in Ireland with the best man to start planning for the big day.

The best man is Lorcan, and after a bad start the business relationship between him and Maddie doesn’t begin well.

With Lorcan showing more interest in overlooking the wedding planning, Maddie starts to see a different side to him.

Will Maddie change her mind about Lorcan? Will the wedding go ahead without a hitch?

I really enjoyed reading this romance mainly due to the love hate relationship that builds between Maddie and Lorcan. It was not only funny to hear their banter, but it was also nice to see how it develops.

I loved the sound of the setting in Ireland, as it sounded beautiful and a lovely place to have a wedding.
Although in a small town, the community spirit which comes together to help with the last-minute wedding plans is heart-warming.

There were many clumsy and unlucky moments from Maddie too, which adds to the humour, but also helps develop Lorcan’s character to be more lovable.

Overall, a humorous and lovely romance where a wedding planner has the help of the best man to plan a perfect wedding in Ireland.

This was the first noel that I have read by Morrey. I loved the banter between Maddie and Lorcan. He was caring but respectful during her time working for his friends and just wanted to look out for Maddie. I do feel that it was somewhat forced attraction and went back and forth between not liking and then liking each other. I wish there had been earlier sparks between the two main characters, but I did like the respectfulness till the end of the contract.

This book was really cute and an easier, lighter read. Perfect for anyone who might be in a reading slump.

Madeline is a wedding planner in England and she takes on Patrick and Peyton's wedding. The best man Lorcan is tasked with helping her with the wedding details as the couple will be in the USA until the wedding. The wedding is taking place in Ireland and since it's in Patrick and Lorcan's hometown, Lorcan shows Maddie around and helps her make contacts for services needed for the wedding. Maddie is attracted to Lorcan but won't mix business with pleasure. They get to know each other in the time leading up to the wedding. Lorcan is always close by and spends time with Maddie. Back in Ireland for the wedding, Maddie tells Lorcan her deepest secret which is something she doesn't share with anyone. Once the wedding is over, they hook up. The next morning, while at family breakfast, Maddie misunderstands a conversation between Lorcan and his sister and she leaves feeling like she'd been duped. A few months go by and Lorcan makes arrangements to meet with Maddie, unknown to her. At this meeting he tells Maddie why he was so anti-marriage. 3 1/2 stars.

Overall I really enjoyed this book. I loved the premise and the characters.

I do wish there was more romance between Lorcan and Maddie during the book. It felt very rushed at the end that they were in love when they had barely done anything together. I did really like Lorcans declaration of love

Just Say Yes was the first novel I read by this author. While both main characters are likeable in their own right, I found the chemistry between them to fall flat, it felt rather forced between them. For me, the constant ‘I hate you, I don’t hate you’ aspect of every single conversation they had was exhausting. It started out cute, but by the time I was a third of the way through I was already skipping huge chunks of their dialogue just to get to the point.

Despite the fact that the pandemic was included in the novel (I prefer to read romance novels that take me away from the reality of life) I did like the wedding planner aspect, and the fact it was set in Ireland was a nice change from the usual larger cities.

Would I read more by this author? Unlikely.

Thank you to @netgalley for a copy of this book in return for my honest review.

I found both MCs in this novel so likeable - they had their own issues but they didn’t take over and fill the story with angst! I’ve never read anything by Maxine Morrey before but by the time I was half way through this, I had downloaded two more of her books on kindle 😂

I absolutely loved this, but here are some random thoughts I had when reading 🙃

-how old are the characters?! There never seemed to be any indication! I suppose it doesn’t matter, but it bothered me for some reason

-who is Izzy, the wedding dress designer? I felt like she must have been a character with her own love story in another novel by the author, but I’ve turned up nothing so far 😂

-the epilogue was lovely but I wanted MORRREEE

-where was Bod in their wedding?!

This was such a good romcom! It was an easy romance read and I breezed through it! I love a wedding planner trope and the realness of the pandemic put a fun twist. I've typically liked to keep the pandemic out of my reading, but I didn't mind the way this was done! The characters banter was so much fun and I enjoyed this.

Thank you @netgalley and Boldwood Books @bookandtonic for an early copy of Just Say Yes by Maxine Morrey in exchange for an honest review. 🤍

Just Say Yes is a light romantic read! It tells the story of Maddie, a wedding planner (and never the bride) who is financially affected by the pandemic; she needs to plan the wedding of heiress Peyton to Patrick, with the help of their best man, Lorcan. Maddie and Lorcan travels to Ireland for the weekend to smooth out the wedding plans, and there she gets to spend more time with Lorcan and his family and friends in town.

First of all, I think we need a Lorcan in our lives. Not necessarily romantically, but just someone who'll remind us to take each day one step at a time, and to remind us that it's okay to slow down and take your time. With the hustle and bustle of working and getting the bills paid, most of us just take for granted how precious time is and how we need to take care of ourselves. It shouldn't always be work, work, work and no relaxation.

The story was quite entertaining as Lorcan helps Maddie get the wedding planning all situated. Their banter though seems like a back and forth hot and cold I hate you I don't hate you/I appreciate you kind of conversation - every time. While that's cute in the beginning, halfway through the story and it was already getting tiresome, not to mention I couldn't really feel the chemistry between Lorcan and Maddie, it seemed quite forced. Maybe because Maddie likes structure and routine, whereas Lorcan is easy-going and spontaneous - opposite personalities.

While I'm not a fan of the romantic aspect of Just Say Yes, I really loved the characters individually. I loved the interaction between Maddie, Lorcan, and the people they met in Ireland. I also loved the ending - it was a happily ever after. 😁

Rating Just Say Yes ⭐⭐⭐.5/5. Releases November 8th, 2022.

PS: For some reason this book reminded me of Amy Adams and Matthew Goode in Leap Year.
