This book brings adventure to a chicken that doesn’t know how to swim. It is a creative way to show children that if they continue to try they will make it happen! Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest feedback!
Chickens Don't Swim is a very cute story about Lily the chick and her efforts to overcome one Summer problem: Chicken's Don't Swim! I thought it was a very fun, imaginative read. Thank you to NetGalley and Black Rose Writing for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Lily the chicken is hot, hot, hot and just wants to cool off in the pond with the other neighborhood animals. Unfortunately, she’s a chicken and everyone knows Chickens Can’t Swim. Will that stop her hopes for relief on the hot day? Or will she get creative and find a way for chickens to swim?
I’m positive my daughter wanted to read and help review this book for the cutsie cover and the title that made her chuckle. And, alright, yes! Even I judged this book by its cover. While this was a quick read, it included educational information about why chickens actually can’t swim, what similar animals can and why. I loved that it took you on an adventure with Lily and had you problem solving with her to try and figure out how she and her family could go in the lake on this hot, hot day.
This would be perfect for learning about animals, a simple bedtime read, or even for circle time.
My daughter gave this book two thumbs up and would recommend it to others. Her favorite part was learning that chickens really don’t swim and learning about why that is. There wasn’t a single part of the book she didn’t like.

Thank you Netgalley for this ARC. I'm being completely honest with my review.
Chickens don't Swim was an adorable book that had a lot of creative problem solving. I enjoyed how Lily the chick figured out how to make her feet more adapted for swimming, it was a great idea.
The fourth book in Laura Willingham's hilarious "Chicken" series, Chickens Don't Swim, shows children they can do anything they set their minds to.
An audacious young chicken named Lily sees ducks, frogs and turtles swimming in the pond from her window and declares that she too would like to swim. Her mother explains that only animals with webbed feet can swim but Lily is determined to find a way. She learns with a little perseverance and a kitchen spatula, she can swim!!
A delightful story with a ridiculous premise that is sure to make anyone laugh, this book will appeal to children of all ages. Featuring bright, full-page illustrations that complement the story and add to the humour, this book can even be read by children independently as the pictures tell a story themselves!
This book is silly and sweet as determined little Lily shows her parents (and the reader) not everything has to be done in a conventional way
This book was provided to me through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was a cute, creative book that my child enjoyed.
It’s soo hot outside, and all Lilly wants to do is join the other birds swimming in the pond. When she goes to ask her Mom she quickly responds says no and that chickens weren’t meant to swim, explaining that without webbed feet, they aren’t able to float like the other birds.
After another sweltering day, Lilly takes it upon herself to come up with a way for her family to swim and creatively takes household items and crafts floaties for them all.
I enjoyed this title, and I liked the message of perseverance that it tells. I wasn’t a huge fan of the art style, though my stepson didn’t mind it.
Chicken Don't Swim
4.5 Stars
This is a very cute and silly book! My kids giggled and couldn't stop giggling throughout the story.
It's a really hot day and Lily wants to swim to cool off. I enjoy how Lily uses her imagination and gets creative by making the balloon float. What could go wrong?
The illustrations are simple and brightly colored. The chickens look so silly floating around the lake. The balloon floats are adorable, and many happy giggles ensued. This book is for all the determined creatives out there. Chickens can swim with a little help and creativity!
Thank you, Netgalley and Black Rose Writing, for an advance reader copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This was a very cute book about determination, creativity and parental support. It's a great way to encourage children to look for different ways to accomplish their goals.
Cute children’s book about why chickens can’t swim- the graphic of other birds webbed feet helped. Unsure about spatulas, seems to not totally fit with making webbed feet. It obviously helps to make it, but seems an odd kitchen utensil. But overall message of seeing through a hardship is good for young ones.
Chickens Don't Swim is a good book! Or teaches ingenuity and not giving up. I haven't had a chance to read it to my nephew yet, but I'm positive he will love it and want me to read it again and again.
This book is very cute and a little silly!
Lily really wants to swim and definitely gets creative. My daughter's favorite part in this book was the balloon floats. She thought they were pretty silly and thought that they would just get popped from the chicken's beaks.
The illustrations are simple and colorful. I think a lot of little kids will be drawn to this book since it is a bit silly. Maybe chickens can swim with a little help!
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me a copy of this ARC for my honest review.
This is a cute, but crudely drawn picture book about chickens figuring out how they can take a dip in a kiddie pool when the day is too hot.
Fun story, as the chickens take over the swimming pool. Smart chicken who comes up with floaties so they can be in the water more easily.
But, hard to get past the artwork, so three stars.

I enjoyed this book and thought the premise was engaging. I liked the problem solving the chicken family had to do to stay cool! I would recommend this book.
I really liked this book. It was informative, funny and easy to follow for children. As well as that, it gave lots of interesting information about animals that children wouldn’t already know! It’s very easy to tailor lessons around in school and there are so many links to other subjects within it. A really enjoyable read!
I thought that this book had some lovely cute illustrations, they are simple, but fit the story perfectly and it was definitely a book that made us smile.
Chickens Don't Swim! is a picture book with a lot of fun.
The story was a good one to read with my daughter as she found it to be quite funny too and had quite a few giggles, which I love when we read together.
It is 4 stars from me for this one, a nice book, quick to read and easy to follow - highly recommended
