MAKE THIS INTO A MOVIE!!!!!

I'm pretty sure this is Amber and Danielle's debut and oh my gosh they did not disappoint! Also a bonus, it's spicy and I wasn't expecting that from the synopsis of the book. I had such a fun time its quite the page turner.

Cannot wait to see what these ladies publish next!

Brandi Maxwell is living the fashion intern dream.

Except, the dream looks more like living on the breadline, scrubbing sick from couture dresses, and dealing with daily microaggressions about her braids - all things she's sure she can ignore in the name of success.

The one thing she can't ignore is Taylor Van Doren.

Model, icon, heiress to the fashion house throne. Taylor only wants two things: her father's money and Brandi's boyfriend. Nothing will stand in her way. Certainly not a poor Black girl from New Jersey.

But when Brandi overhears something she shouldn't, their fates become dangerously intertwined. And she must find a way to navigate the cutthroat world of deceptively beautiful people before she becomes fashion's latest victim.

I love this book so much. It had just the right amount of horrible things happen to the main character where I wasn’t just totally despondent. I loved the inclusion of the villain perspective - never once did I feel bad for her or what her to succeed which I thought was brilliantly done.

Fun, sexy thriller for younger (and older) adults that enjoy fast paced narrative. Brandi is following her dreams - fashion intern post for a big fashion company and a boy friend to dream of. But life has other plans, and she soon finds people are more cut-throat than she could ever imagine. Thank you to Little, Brown Book Group and NetGalley for the ARC. Compelling, Compulsive…
The aspirations of a fashion intern take a tumble in this contemporary suspense. Brandi Maxwell really hasn’t got it made - as a fashion intern her dreams were aiming much higher than the position in which she finds herself. It’s really not the high life. She is, however, determined to succeed and this may well come at a cost. Overhearing something she shouldn’t have, she suddenly has the wholly insufferable Taylor Van Doren, fashion heiress, pegged. Exploring privilege, discrimination, toxicity and great divides as well as the dark and dingy side passages of the fashion world this is compelling, compulsive and well written with a deftly drawn cast of characters.

This book was so well written and gave a very interesting look into how having priviliedge affects a life and on the other foot how prejudice has an effect on life. The story is well written with a storyline that was gripping and I couldn't put it down. The characters are well developed and I loved how the story was told through the point of view of our two protagonists Brandi and Taylor and through these points of views, it is really highlighted what the difference is between prejudice and discrimination and priviledge and acceptance and how that affects the life of the person,
This is an incredible read, a fantastic thriller with a fresh feel and a contender for one of the best books I have read this year

Someone Had to Do It is a hot new thriller for the Zoomer/Millennial generation - a gripping murder mystery seeped in darkness, privilege and prejudice.

* * * * *

Living the dream at one of New York’s top fashion houses isn’t the reality for many girls who grew up on the streets between homes. For intern Brandi Maxwell, that not-so-glamorous reality looks like scrubbing vomit from designer dresses and putting up with microagressive white privileged co-workers at Simon Van Doren.

So when Brandi’s boyfriend, Nate, offers her a once-in-a-lifetime introduction to Simon’s daughter - the it-girl model and influencer Taylor Van Doren - she’s determined to show the Van Dorens that she’s the intern worth taking to Milan.

Brandi’s new acquaintance quickly turns into a dangerous enemy when she overhears Taylor’s plan to murder her father. Faced with the murder charge and an undeniable pile of evidence, can Brandi fight against the odds to prove her innocence and also keep Nate from Taylor’s vices?

The story is dual-narrated by the two female leads, Brandi and Taylor, which highlights the sharp differences between a life of institutional racism and prejudice and a life of power and privilege. The end matter includes book club discussion points and a playlist of songs inspired by the book.

Someone Had To Do It is one of the best contemporary thrillers I’ve read in a while - it needs to be on Netflix! I hope to read more from Amber and Danielle Brown - with such a dark debut, they have a bright future in writing ahead of them.
